Chapter 14: Chapter 13: A Glimmer of Hope
[3rd POV]
"That's really remarkable skills."
Iskandar clapped his hands in approval, but neither Assassin nor Gilgamesh spoke as they locked eyes.
Assassin was nervous because he was facing one of the strongest Servants in the Fourth Holy Grail War, the hero King Gilgamesh, who was destined to end the war in a single night.
Gilgamesh, on the other hand, had developed a strong interest in him with such remarkable skills as he dodged the attack from the Gate of Babylon.
"I must admit."
Gilgamesh said, ignoring Iskandar and focusing entirely on the Assassin, "You look like... like a pure, blank slate."
"It's been a long time since the king has seen such a pure soul."
"It's a very strange soul, and it's as if something is missing."
He remarked with interest, "But it's precisely because of that it makes you even more intriguing."
A slight smirk curled at the corner of his lips.
Gilgamesh once again opened the Gate of Babylon. This time, it wasn't just a few treasures with sixteen weapons in total!
Assassin was now in a panic, but there was another person who was as uneasy as him, Gilgamesh's Master, Tokiomi Tohsaka.
He had never wanted Gilgamesh to reveal his Noble Phantasms from the start. This time, not only had Noble Phantasm been fully exposed, but they were aiming at his own allies!
Kirei obeyed his commands without question and his servant, Assassin, had not yet pledged loyalty, but there was no doubt he was on his side.
Tohsaka rubbed his Command Seal, contemplating whether to stop Archer's attack, but he didn't know how to command him.
The red glow on his hand flickered brightly and faded simultaneously, making it difficult for him to decide.
'I'll watch for now.'
He didn't want to waste a Command Seal or risk damaging his relationship with Gilgamesh.
Assassin and Gilgamesh didn't know about the relationship between their Masters.
If Tohsaka issued a direct order, it could potentially cause a rift between him and Gilgamesh.
After careful consideration, Tokiomi reluctantly instructed Kirei to order Assassin to retreat from the battle.
"Assassin, do you think you and Archer could reconcile?"
Kirei asked.
"It's him attacking me, not the other way around!"
Assassin annoyedly replied, 'I would love to make peace with him.'
He couldn't help but feel uneasy as he looked at the golden ripples behind Gilgamesh.
"Keep the Command Seal."
Tokiomi gave his final command to Kirei. "Do not use it to summon Assassin unless it's absolutely necessary."
Even at this critical moment, he maintained his graceful composure.
"I understand."
Kirei had only two Command Seals left.
"Enough, Archer."
Seeing the Noble Phantasm about to be released, Iskandar couldn't help but speak up.
"Judging from what you just said, you're also a king, right? Yet, as a king, do you only have this little bit of greatness?"
"Shut up, scum!"
Gilgamesh completely ignored him and, with a wave of his hand, unleashed all of his Noble Phantasms toward Assassin.
Iskandar wanted to help, but what happened next left him utterly stunned!
The sixteen Noble Phantasms rained down in an extremely short amount of time, and he couldn't even react in time to assist.
The crashing treasures stirred up a cloud of dust in the ruins of the library with half of these were above A-rank Noble Phantasms.
In Iskandar's eyes, Gilgamesh was clearly intent on killing Assassin!
But when the dust cleared, Iskandar saw Assassin standing firmly on the ground.
The area around him was destroyed, with craters and destruction everywhere caused by the treasures.
Assassin survived.
He avoided all the Noble Phantasms, and not a single one caused him any real harm.
As long as there was even a sliver of hope, Assassin wouldn't die!
"Interesting, interesting."
Gilgamesh laughed, genuinely thrilled for the first time since coming into this world.
"Let's see just how many Noble Phantasms you can dodge, you filthy mongrel."
He extended his hand, and a golden sea of treasures appeared behind him.
A full thirty-two Noble Phantasms, no one, not even Berserker Lancelot, could possibly withstand such an overwhelming attack!
With Gilgamesh's arrogant and disdainful laugh, the wave of treasures rushed toward Assassin with unstoppable force.
In the midst of the violent wave of Noble Phantasms, Assassin was like a lone boat rocking on the vast ocean.
He could flip over at any moment, yet… no matter how ferocious the tsunami or how violent the waves, Assassin kept surviving.
In fact, when Gilgamesh unleashed his Gate of Babylon, he didn't mean to kill Assassin.
He had deliberately left brief moments for his to catch his breath, wanting to see just how strong his resilience truly was.
Just as Gilgamesh had expected, Assassin clung to that faint sliver of hope, managing to survive the storm of Noble Phantasms.
Suddenly, he opened his Gate of Babylon once again... with sixty-four treasures!
The golden light they emitted was so brilliant it was like staring directly at the sun.
This time, death was inevitable…
The pressure from the Gate of Babylon was suffocating to Assassin, and he had nearly exhausted all his strength.
He was covered with sweat, and his once graceful face was now exhausted.
'What terrible luck... I should have leveled up my Luck!'
The output of the Gate of Babylon was almost at its peak, but just as Gilgamesh was about to unleash it, he suddenly stopped.
With a wave of his hand, Gilgamesh withdrew the collection of treasures that had been ready to fire.
"By the command of the command seal, retreat, Archer."
Tokiomi couldn't hold back any longer and used the command seal, "My king, your humble servant begs you to calm your anger."
"Trying to make me retreat with such loyal order... you have some nerve, Tohsaka!"
Gilgamesh shouted angrily.
"Assassin, you little rat, this king will remember you."
He said, his voice cold and filled with contempt.
Afterwards, he threw a final taunt at Rider.
"Hmph. I hope to see a real hero next time, not some self-proclaimed king of a worthless mongrel."
Tokiomi finally let out a sigh of relief back at home.
"Finally, I've calmed down the King of Heroes' anger, killing each other among allies will only benefit others."
He felt as though his head was spinning.
After beginning to consider Assassin with more attention, he once again elevated his status in his mind.
He still managed to dodge and survive easily despite such an overwhelming number of Noble Phantasms.
In fact, Tokiomi even started to wonder if Assassin could survive the full force of the Gate of Babylon!
"Indeed, the fact that Kirei has acquired such a powerful Hassan is a sign that victory is destined for me!"
Tokiomi's confidence had now evolved into arrogance.
To be continued...
