Fire Chief vs. Surgeon: A Tale of Relentless Pursuit

Hospital.

Lu Jing had just gotten off the plane in the morning, collected all his emotions, and immediately reported to the hospital. After completing the onboarding procedures, he officially started seeing patients.

For most of the day, he didn't even have time to drink water, busy until lunchtime.

Just as he was about to finish his meal, he was called into the operating room.

By the time he came out of the operating room, it was nearly four in the afternoon—an entire three and a half hours of surgery without a moment to think about past troubles!

Diagonally across from the hospital was the Nanxi City Fire Brigade, only a few minutes' walk away.

As Jiang Ye's figure appeared outside the fire brigade, the sentinel on duty spotted him immediately and saluted swiftly:

"Captain Jiang!"

The training team inside also noticed the figure:

"Isn't Captain Jiang on vacation?"

"Who knows? Plus, don't you think Captain Jiang's expression looks incredibly terrifying right now?"

Damn!

It really does!

"Quick, quick, get back to training, don't provoke that devil."

"Old Jiang?"

The instructor had just come out of his office and was startled.

"Notify everyone to assemble in one minute!"

"Huh?"

Soon, the assembly whistle sounded.

Before long, there were complaints and curses filling the fire brigade.

Time passed in the blink of an eye.

The mid-June weather was much hotter and drier than at the beginning of the month.

Lu Jing had been on a 24-hour shift since his first day, and the second and third days he spent entirely in the operating room, followed by three night shifts. After six continuous days, he finally had a day off.

Though it was only one day, he was very much looking forward to it!

However, busy as he was, the week had been fulfilling, truly not a second wasted.

Now, it was past four in the morning, about four hours until daylight and the shift change.

Fortunately, the latter half of the night was much easier than the first; everyone hurried to catch some sleep on the desk whenever they could.

Suddenly, the landline phone at the nurse station rang urgently:

"Hello, orthopedics."

"Pardon me, could you inform the attending doctor that there's a consultation needed in emergency medicine."

"Alright, alright."

In the on-call room, Lu Jing had just closed his eyes, not yet asleep, when Little Nurse rushed in:

Knock knock knock...

"Doctor Lu, there's a consultation in emergency medicine."

Lu Jing sighed deeply, picked up the stethoscope from the drawer, and got up.

"I'm coming."

He went down from the 12th floor to the 1st, then entered through the side door of the emergency hall.

"I'm here for the ortho consultation, my last name is Lu."

"Mr. Lu, both of these firefighters have fractures, please take a look."

Lu Jing nodded, stepped forward, and a group of young men quickly made way.

Everyone was still wearing fire protective suits, their faces grimy with soot, apparently just back from a fire scene.

Upon closer inspection, one of the injured turned out to be Jiang Ye!

So much so that he sharply inhaled before finally moving toward him.

Jiang Ye, of course, also spotted the newcomer, his eyes flickering slightly.

After briefly listening to the emergency doctor describe the condition, it was clear that one firefighter with a leg fracture needed surgery urgently, as the fracture was exposed and surrounded by severely damaged soft tissue.

The other one was slightly better off, only having a forearm fracture.

However, the main issue was that emergency medicine had no beds available and couldn't admit them.

Thus, they wanted orthopedics to take them in.

Lu Jing glanced briefly at someone, pursed his lips:

"Okay, I'll call and let my department prepare."

"Thank you so much, Mr. Lu."
