Chapter 84: Wedding Around The Corner
[A Couple of Weeks Later...]
(Rhaegon's POV)
I walked through the doors of my study in Summerhall, I noticed Nymeria was in one of the chairs, reading.
"What are you up to?" I asked as I walked to my desk
"Reading." She said as she was laid across the chair, "You?"
"I was looking for a tome my Mother sent before the attack." I said as I looked at the shelf behind the desk, "I think Rhea must've put it somewhere, have you seen it? It's a black and bronze one with the Targaryen Sigil on it. I think she mentioned it is one of the copies of a book Aegon III wrote."
"This one?" She asked
I turned to see the book she was holding, it was the very book I was looking for.
I frowned, "You're reading one of Aegon III's books?" I asked as I walked over and extended my hand, "Give it to me."
"No, it's quite interesting." She said with a smile, "Why do you wish to read it? You don't read."
"Well, I do now." I said, "I have to see if Aegon knew something of what we are dealing with?"
"He did not." She said, "Or at the very least, if he did, he did not write it here."
"I won't know if I don't read it." I said as I reached for it, "Give it here."
"No." She said as she pulled away, "Get your own book."
"That is my book." I said
She chuckled, "Take it from me."
I stepped back, "Don't start."
She straightened up and smiled at me, "Come on, lover, you want it?" She asked, "Take it. Or at least negotiate for it."
"What do you want?" I asked
She stood up and walked up to me, "Not much." She said as she pressed herself against me, "You are to be married soon. Before that, I wish to have most of your attention."
I blinked, "Is that all?" I said, "I have been giving you plenty of that lately."
"I want more." She said softly
I reached for the book and took it off her hands in a swift motion, "You will." I said as I stepped back, "If you excuse me, I need to read."
I turned around and immediately felt her arms wrap around my waist, "You'll only bore yourself. You are not fit for reading, lover." She said, "I'll tell you what it says. It only speaks of what became of Aegon III and his family after the Dance."
"Hm." I said as I opened it, "Is that so?"
"Yes. He married Visenya Targaryen when the two became of age, shortly before, his brother Viserys was returned and was already married to a Lady Rogarre." She said, "Their youngest sister Rhea Targaryen was at Runestone and apparently she was married to one of the young Lords."
I frowned, "I thought House Royce didn't have Aerion's blood...." I said, "Ser Yohn told me that."
"Something happened, apparently. The King didn't wrote what exactly." She said, "But he did mention about his children. Of course, he had two sons who became Kings."
"That much I know." I said as I flipped through the pages, "Daeron and Baelor."
"Visenya apparently named Daeron after their uncle, Daeron Targaryen. He helped her out when she was a child during the war." Nymeria said
"Hm...." I said, "They had daughters too, right?"
"Right." She said, "Some pages were added after his death, explaining the scandals of his eldest daughter Daena, and her youngest, Elaena."
"Daena was Daemon Blackfyre's mother, that I do know. What of Elaena?" I asked
"Get this. Baela Targaryen, Aegon's aunt, was married to an Alyn Velaryon, who was legitimized shortly after the war ended." She said, "Way after that happened, Elaena and Alyn had an affair."
"Say again?" I said, "Why would this be put in after the King's death?"
"Do you think Aegon III would willingly write about that?" She asked
"Hm, point taken." I said, "Who wrote it in?"
"Aegon IV" She said as she chuckled
"That's....interesting." I said with a chuckle
"Another interesting detail is that once, Lord Alyn Velaryon set off to sea and never came back." She said, "Apparently, it was rumored that he died when he came across some dangerous people."
"Huh." I said as I pulled away from her and walked to the desk, leaning on it as she walked up to me, "Interesting."
"History can be fascinating at times." She said as she patted my cheek, "Rhaegon."
I looked at her, "Yea?"
"You won't....neglect us, right?" She asked seriously
"What do you mean?" I asked
"You're going to be married soon." She said softly
"Nymeria." I said, "We have spoken about this. I won't. I promise."
"Do not break that promise." She said
"After all this is over." I said closing the book, "All of us will just live peacefully, eh? The five of us. Wow....can not believe that was something that came out of my mouth."
"Hehe." She leaned in and kissed my cheek, "I love you."
"I know." I said, "As do I."
"You know what I want, right?" She asked
"I do." I said, "But I can't give you that. Not now."
"After, hm?" She said, "After you and the Princess have one of your own?"
"We'll see." I said with a smile, "I give you my word."
"Thank you." She said softly
********************
That night, I had a dream. It felt like one of those dreams that Bloodraven had caused, but it was much different.
I was standing in the middle of a massive dark room, with nothing but strange mist surrounding me as I looked around.
"W-Where am I?" I said
The room was vast and massive, almost like I could fit in an entire fort in it.
I then heard a loud growling, right above me. I looked up to see a massive glowing green eye, staring right at me as I froze with shock.
"W-Whoa....." I said
The growling got louder and the shadow the eye was on slightly lowered, revealing thick black dragon scales, a massive dragon's maw that opened, releasing green fumes.
It was a Dragon. I was looking at a giant dragon. It was almost four times the size of Morghul, gargantuan. I could not believe my eyes.
I stood there, frozen completely, taken aback.
"Children.....can be a weakness..." I heard a low and raspy voice, "Tell me, child. Will you be the King's weakness?"
I looked over to my left and saw that in the middle of the room, I saw a tall figure standing, covered in a thick black cloak that emitted mist. I saw the outline of a man's head with black hair. I could not make out his eyes, it was quite strange.
"W-Who?" I said as I stumbled, "Who are you?"
"That child.....Bloodraven..." The Man said as he slowly walked over, "He is ignorant of the truth...yet he persists....I must give him credit....but it is inevitable. I will allow you all to prepare how you wish, but there is no changing the Fate that I have written."
I frowned, "It's you...."
As he reached me, his stature towering over mine, his left eye slowly opened and revealed a green dragon's eye that was similar to the massive dragon atop the roof.
"The Long Night comes and Death comes with it." The Man said, "The only way to stop is with Zaldrizes Jaes. But tell me, child, what will you do about it? Are you the one? Or is your King the One? who is the one that was chosen to bring about the Dragon's Dynasty? You? The Khal? Or Myself? Black Fiery Wings, so the prophecy says."
"I...." I said as I stumbled back
"You cannot stop it." He said, "I am inevitable. I will bring about the End of this Farce."
"I will Return."
