Chapter 2
There was deep darkness all around, and the only thing emitting light was a huge book suspended in mid-air.
Liu Jin’an subconsciously touched the book.
In an instant, the sky was full of light, and the dazzling light tore through the dark black curtain. He had to raise his hands to block it and closed his eyes to avoid being burned by the strong light.
When he opened his eyes again, he saw a pure white ceiling.
His memory came back, and he quickly realized that he was in the hospital and had just had a fight with Gu Hongwu not long ago.
“Xiao An, you’re awake.” Jiang Shulan was surprised and called the doctor to examine him.
Most of Liu Jin’an’s injuries were superficial. Although Gu Hongwu had been reckless, he knew how to use his hands appropriately.
But he couldn’t just let it go.
He sometimes complained of a headache and at other times said he was confused. The doctor initially judged that he had a mild concussion and needed to stay in the hospital for a few days for observation.
Jiang Shulan was so distressed that she wiped away her tears, while Liu Jin’an had mixed emotions.
In the novel, the madam also had feelings for him, but any feelings would turn into outright favouritism in front of Gu Letian.
So, before Jiang Shulan could ask for help, Liu Jin’an spoke first: “Mrs. Gu, your son beat me like this. How much does the Gu family plan to pay to compensate me for my losses?”
“What, what compensation?” Jiang Shulan looked shocked.
Liu Jin’an’s expression was even more astonished than hers: “Don’t the Gu family plan to keep it private? It’s fine not to keep it private, as long as the Gu family isn’t afraid of being embarrassed and becoming a topic of conversation among the people.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the ward door was violently pushed open, and the poor door hit the wall with a loud and ear-piercing sound.
Gu Hongwu strode in, his eyes almost cutting off Liu Jin’an’s body: “Liu Jin’an, you are so shameless, you stinking beggar!”
He even raised his hand and tried to attack Liu Jin’an.
He failed to succeed and was stopped by a pair of big palms. The man’s tone was full of disapproval: “Stop, you don’t think you’ve caused enough trouble?”
Liu Jin’an looked at the man in a neat suit and gradually equated the character in the novel with him. It seemed that this man was Gu Hongwen, the eldest of the four Gu family brothers, who was in charge of the Gu Group.
He secretly regretted it but actually hoped that Gu Hongwu would commit violence again. After all, this was a hospital, and the bigger the noise, the more he would get.
But with Gu Hongwen there, he wouldn’t let Gu Hongwu mess around.
While Liu Jin’an was looking at Gu Hongwen, Gu Hongwen was also observing Liu Jin’an.
Thin and sickly pale lips, typical of malnutrition.
Only those peach blossom eyes, blazing like the sunrise, shining with hope, were exactly the same as Jiang Shulan’s.
“Name the price.” Gu Hongwen said to Liu Jin’an condescendingly, with a stern look on his face.
Problems that could be solved with money were not problems.
After finally hearing these words, Liu Jin’an sat up straight and straightened his back.
He rolled his eyes, opened his mouth, and said, “One hundred million.”
Gu Hongwu was the first to refuse: “One hundred million? You are blackmailing!”
Even Gu Letian, who was hiding behind Gu Hongwen and Gu Hongwu, stuck out his head, his dog-like eyes filled with mist: “Brother Jin’an, I know it’s wrong for Brother Hongwu to hit you, but you hit him too! It’s not easy for my parents and brothers to make money. For their sake, forget it.”
Liu Jin’an chuckled and said nothing.
He looked straight at Gu Letian.
Gu Letian’s back felt cold, like a panicked little rabbit. He hugged Gu Hongwen’s arm tightly and said tremblingly, “Brother Hongwen, I’m scared!”
Gu Hongwen’s eyes grew colder, and his voice was low and cold: “Liu Jin’an, if you continue to scare Tiantian, don’t blame me for being rude to you.”
“I don’t mind.” Liu Jin’an laughed softly, his laughter getting louder and louder, his expression like that of a madman, and tears burst from the corners of his eyes. “Gu Hongwen, why are you so rude to me?”
He grabbed the collar of his hospital gown and said, “Are you going to beat me up like your big-breasted and brainless brother?”
Then he lifted up the hem of his clothes and said, “Are you like my adoptive father, who always stabbed me in the belly with a wine bottle?”
Rolling up his sleeves, he added, “Burn me with a cigarette butt?”
Unbuttoning the buttons revealed the scars across both shoulders: “Are you like my adoptive mother, who punished me by beating my ribs and slashing my chest with a kitchen knife?”
Although the shocking wounds had healed, the remaining scars were enough to prove the brutal abuse their owners had suffered.
“No… no…” Jiang Shulan had already burst into tears. She had never thought that her flesh and bones were being tortured inhumanely in a place she couldn’t see.
Her guilt toward Liu Jin’an reached its peak at that moment.
Liu Jin’an’s voice continued to sound as he stretched out his hand to show everyone the red marks on the back of his hand.
Gu Hongwu thought he had seen through everything: “You clearly did it yourself just now, I saw it!”
“Yes,” Liu Jin’an did not deny it, and twitched the corner of his mouth, “The son of my adoptive parents likes to pinch my flesh the most. Covered by clothes, others couldn’t see the damage he had caused me, and the strength I just used was less than one-tenth of his.”
Jiang Shulan cried uncontrollably: “Stop talking, I beg you, stop talking…”
Liu Jin’an buttoned up his buttons again, “What about my compensation?”
Gu Hongwen fell into silence. One hundred million was certainly nothing to the Gu family, which had trillions in assets.
However, the operation of the Gu Group required funds, and some investments did not return profits so quickly, so the total liquidity of the entire Gu Group did not exceed 200 million.
“Give it to him, Hongwen, give him the money.” Jiang Shulan felt very distressed and just wanted to compensate the child.
“Mom,” Gu Letian saw Gu Hongwen’s embarrassment and spoke hurriedly, “Now that Brother Jin’an is back, we just have to make up for him in the future. We are all a family. Talking about money hurts feelings. Do you want others to think that Brother Jin’an is back for our money?”
Overtly and covertly, he ridiculed Liu Jin’an for only having money in his eyes.
This fake young master was good at other things and was a good judge of people. Didn’t he come to the Gu family just for money?
“My young master,” Liu Jin’an sighed, “Have you ever thought that I had been suffering for you for so many years? You stole my life and left me covered in wounds. Shouldn’t you compensate me?”
Gu Letian couldn’t argue, and hid in Gu Hongwu’s arms again, about to cry.
Gu Hongwu held the young man in his arms, glared at Liu Jin’an, gritted his teeth, and said, “Don’t talk nonsense, your abuse was the fault of your adoptive parents, why should you blame Tiantian?”
Liu Jin’an was too lazy to pay attention to this stupid donkey and raised his chin at Gu Hongwen: “What do you think?”
Gu Hongwen pondered for a moment: “Mom, there is Hongwu and Tiantian. You go out first, and I will talk to him alone.”
Jiang Shulan hesitated to speak; her eyes sincere.
Gu Hongwen said, “Mom, don’t worry. I will give him a satisfactory answer.”
After everyone left, he and Liu Jin’an were the only ones left in the ward. Under the warm yellow light on the bedside, Liu Jin’an’s long eyelashes were clearly defined, and his eyebrows were picturesque.
He did look a lot like them.
Liu Jin’an more or less guessed Gu Hongwen’s intention and smiled nonchalantly: “Give me 100 million, and I promise that I won’t take the initiative to appear in front of you, won’t embarrass your parents, and won’t affect your baby brother’s mood. Good deal.”
Gu Hongwen did have this plan, but Liu Jin’an said it out. He touched his nose awkwardly: “I will give you another five million, which will be used to make up for the Gu family’s debt to you. If you need anything in the future, you can come find me. Don’t bother anyone else.”
Liu Jin’an understood the implication of Gu Hongwen’s words. It was nothing important, so he agreed readily.
Who was the cheap brother here?
This was clearly the God of Wealth!
