Chapter 47: Chapter 47: The Cult Missionary
Lilin brought another iced Americano to the table, double-checking this time that the coffee in her hand was indeed cold.
Just as she turned to leave, the blonde foreigner with a ponytail grabbed her again:
"Hey, beautiful, don't you non-awakeners understand human language? I asked for iced!"
Lilin's eyes widened. "How is that possible?"
The coffee was steaming hot!
Alexander furrowed his brow.
An Awakener?
This foreigner was clearly an Awakener, and a combat-talented one at that!
Why were overseas Awakeners showing up here?
Lilin was completely stunned, standing in place, unsure of what to do. She knew she had brought an iced Americano!
The blonde ponytail smirked triumphantly. "Just kidding. I'm an Awakener and wanted to make friends with you. I'm free tonight; how about coming to my place?"
He had used this trick countless times in Base Country 3 nightclubs to pick up girls.
A foreigner, an Awakener—buffed to the max, it was usually easy to capture a woman's interest.
However, this was a café, not a seedy nightclub, and not everyone was a sheepdog.
Lilin was visibly angry, glaring at the blonde ponytail with fury. "If there's nothing else, I have work to do. And, two iced Americanos, eighty solar."
With that, she turned to leave.
The blonde foreigner froze for a moment, then flew into a rage, reaching out to grab Lilin's arm:
"What kind of attitude is this, you b—!"
A hand clapped onto the blonde foreigner's shoulder.
"Buddy, show some respect."
The blonde turned to see a man in a white shirt, his face full of anger, looking like an office worker.
The foreigner's eyes flashed with fury. "Take your hand off, inferior creature!"
"Inferior creature" was a derogatory term some awakeners used for non-awakeners.
The man in the white shirt clenched his fist, warning him, "Listen, just because you're an Awakener doesn't mean you can act wild. You've picked the wrong place!"
The foreigner couldn't help but laugh.
"You? An Awakener too?"
Fire erupted from the foreigner's hand as he grabbed the man's arm. The flames instantly burned his arm.
Alexander narrowed his eyes.
D-rank.
A D-rank Awakener was considered a decent combat force in human society. Why had someone like this come to Base Country 3?
Alexander found it strange. The timing of their arrival was too suspicious, especially with the monster siege approaching.
"Ahhh!"
The man in the white shirt fell to the ground, wailing in pain, his arm suffering extensive burns.
The café's customers stood up. Even though most of them did not possess combat talents, they were unafraid.
The two foreigners realized something was wrong. It seemed like they had stirred up trouble and prepared to flee.
One of the customers raised his phone in one hand, pointing at the two foreign Awakeners with the other, shouting, "Don't let them leave! I've called the cops!"
The enraged customers instinctively blocked the door, surrounding the two foreign Awakeners.
No matter how bold they were, the foreigners didn't dare to go on a rampage here or injure everyone.
The blonde ponytail slumped back into his chair, sneering at the crowd. "Call the cops? Sure, I'd like to see what your security officers can do to me!"
The other foreigner was equally arrogant. "Even if we go to the station today, we'll be released right away!"
Alexander put down his pen, carefully observing the two foreign Awakeners.
In today's tense international climate, these foreigners dared to hurt people and still spout such nonsense?
They didn't seem to be lying; it looked like they had some sort of backing.
Did they have connections within the security bureau? Who could it be?
Which high-ranking official could free someone who had assaulted others in public?
Soon, the security bureau's vehicle arrived, its siren blaring, and parked in front of Old Oak Cafe.
Two security officers approached, looking at the foreigners with disgust, roughly handcuffing them.
The crowd erupted into cheers and jeers.
"Get lost, you fools! Just because you look like macho musclemen doesn't mean you can run wild here!"
"Didn't you say you'd be released as soon as you were caught? Well, let's see if the security officers will let you out now!"
"Does anyone still think it's the old times where connections work?" {A/N: Connections work everywhere, no matter what age it is. but who will tell these poor lambs}
The two foreigners, still appearing arrogant, continued to hurl insults at everyone around them.
Their foul-mouthed behavior prompted the security officers to tighten their handcuffs, causing the foreigners to wince in pain and curse loudly.
Only after the foreigners were taken away did the customers return to their seats, discussing the incident that had just unfolded.
The injured man in the white shirt had already been taken to the hospital by Lilin.
Since this incident occurred at the café, the medical expenses would naturally be covered by the café.
Old Oak Cafe was more than willing to pay for these expenses and do everything it could to compensate the man for his losses.
Alexander waved to Jack, who was watching the commotion from the second floor.
Jack hurried downstairs. "Master Alex, what's up?"
Alexander glanced at the departing security vehicle and said softly, "Go and see if those two will actually be released as they claimed."
Jack asked respectfully, "Do you want me to look into their background?"
Alexander shook his head. "No need, just bury them."
If these two were indeed released shortly after being detained, it would indicate that someone in the security bureau was colluding with foreign Awakeners.
Alexander wasn't sure how deep this went, so he intended to test the waters with two heads.
If the foreigners were merely bluffing, Alexander would wait for them to be released and take them out whenever they stepped outside.
Security Bureau Temporary Detention Center.
The two foreigners were held in an interrogation room while the security officers questioned their identities.
Despite the officers' best efforts, the foreigners feigned ignorance, pretending not to understand the language of Base Country 3.
The officers were at a loss and received orders to leave the detention center, locking the two in the "black room."
'Tap, tap, tap.'
The sound of high heels echoed outside the room. A tall, striking woman in uniform opened the door and walked in.
It was Welma.
Her face was icy as she spoke, "Don't you know how to restrain yourselves? How many times has it been now?"
The blonde with the ponytail shrugged nonchalantly. "Didn't we take care of a few girls a few days ago with no consequences? So, when are we getting out this time?"
There were many sheepdogs, and quite a few had died at the hands of these "foreign masters."
When you don't even see yourself as human, outsiders won't see you as human either.
Welma frowned. "I really want to kill all of you."
The other foreigner replied with a sneer, "Don't forget, Welma, you were the one who invited us here. So what if we get a bit out of hand?"
Welma had long noticed the restlessness of the monsters outside Bluewater City.
She knew very well why the monsters were coming—for the demonic beast imprisoned within the security bureau.
Welma hadn't reported the monster activity. The reason was simple: she didn't want anyone else to steal her glory.
She intended to take all the credit and then claim her reward.
If she won the bet, she'd be hailed as the hero who protected the demonic beast and saved Bluewater City.
If she lost, she wouldn't face any significant punishment. A monster siege was, after all, an act of nature.
The deal with the cult priests was straightforward: in exchange for their assistance, she would allow them to infiltrate Bluewater City and spread the teachings of their so-called divine faith.
