Chapter 23: Chapter 23 Dangerous Person
There is only one church on Meteor City, which is Gothic in style and has nothing to do with luxury.
The interior space of the church is very spacious, and the windows for lighting are very simple. The glass is transparent without any exaggerated patterns.
The morning sun shone through the window, slanting down where Law and Chrollo's gazes met.
The opening and closing of the church doors, though not forceful, stirred a light breeze that lifted the dust from the floor. The particles floated in the sunbeams, forming radiant columns of light.
This was their first meeting, but Chrollo's focus immediately landed on Law. When he found that Law was also looking at him, his young face remained calm, but there was an unknown emotion floating in the depths of his eyes.
At just twelve years old, Chrollo was younger than Uvogin and Nobunaga by three years, two years older than Machi, and similar to Law's current age.
After he pushed the door open, Chrollo moved his head slightly, taking in the situation inside the church in an instant, and finally looked at Machi and Law. His gaze lingered on Law for less than a second before fully locking onto him.
Initially, based on what the Machi said about Law, Chrollo became very curious about him, so his gaze is filled with curiosity.
However, when Law looked at him with a strange look, the initial curiosity turned into subtle doubt.
Just like a sophisticated instrument, when their eyes met, Chrollo interpreted the meaning contained in Law's eyes, and then a doubt arose in his mind.
'This person... seems strangely familiar with me.'
Chrollo silently pondered this as he observed Law.
However, Law didn't know what was in Chrollo's mind. Based on his subjective memory, he looked at Chrollo and the tall girl beside him.
Chrollo's short black hair was neat, and his forehead lacked the iconic cross-shaped scar Law remembered. His skin was pale, and his youthful face seemed at odds with the steady, calculating look in his dark eyes.
What is even more out of place was the black casual suit that Chrollo was wearing.
However, whether it was the eyes or the suit, Law's senses easily accepted it, without any sense of disharmony.
It was as if... this young man was just like himself, carrying a soul far older than his physical body.
'Chrollo, the leader of the Phantom Troupe… He's also a very dangerous figure. The girl next to him should be Pakunoda, who has the ability to access others' memories through physical contact.'
Law's mind was in turmoil, but his face remained calm.
Whether it is Chrollo or Pakunoda, they are still young boys and girls now, not members of the Phantom Troupe more than ten years later.
"Chrollo, Pakunoda."
Machi held out her hand in greeting.
After hearing what Machi said, Law was sure that the long-legged blonde girl next to Chrollo was Pakunoda.
Chrollo smiled faintly at Machi, and then said to Pakunoda beside him: "Go and help Machi and the others take care of their medical expenses first."
Pakunoda nodded slightly and walked towards the inner hall while carrying a bag of money. Seeing this, a middle-aged man standing by the altar nodded to Pakunoda and silently led the way.
After seeing Pakunoda and the middle-aged man leave, Chrollo walked up to Law and Machi.
Law stood up and helped Machi up.
Chrollo glanced at the white bandages on Machi's thighs and asked, "Are you alright?"
"It's just a minor injury." Machi replied casually.
'Minor injury... Such a deep wound is still considered a minor injury?'
The corner of Law's mouth twitched slightly, but then he reminded himself that this was Meteor City, so it was not surprising.
"That's good to hear."
Chrollo raised his left hand, put his thumb on his chin, supported his left elbow with his right hand, then suddenly looked at Law and said without warning: "I'm quite certain this is the first time I've seen you."
Law was startled for a moment, but his face remained calm as he replied with a smile, "Same here."
"Hmm."
Chrollo nodded slightly, retracted the thumb that was resting on his chin, and instead extended his index finger to point at his left temple, and asked curiously: "But you seem to be very familiar with me."
"Huh?" Law pretended to be confused, but he felt even more surprised in his heart.
After hearing what Chrollo said, Machi glanced at Law instinctively, her face filled with doubts.
Chrollo carefully studied Law's reaction, then chuckled softly and said: "Maybe it's just my imagination. By the way, you can use Nen, can't you?"
'This guy…'
Law raised his eyebrows slightly and nodded: "Yes, I can. And since you're asking, that probably means you can, too?"
'He has mastered Nen at this time? But Machi and Uvogin seemed utterly unaware of Nen's existence. What's going on?'
'Did Chrollo intentionally hide the existence of Nen, or has he only recently come into contact with Nen and mastered it?'
'If Chrollo wasn't that close to Machi and the others, it would make sense for him to keep Nen a secret. But if they weren't close, why would he bring money to help pay for their treatment? After all, this is Meteor City.'
'But if Chrollo had just come into contact with Nen recently, did he comprehend it on his own, or did someone else taught him? Well, the latter is more likely. After all, there must be many people in Meteor City who can use Nen.'
"Yes, I can use it too." Chrollo answered straightforwardly. Then, with a faint smile on his face, he said seriously: "I heard from Machi that there's a black book? That must be your Nen Ability, right?"
Law first glanced at Machi, then nodded silently. In fact, his Nen Ability was far more than just a book. According to the data of the six categories displayed in the white smoke text, if conditions allowed, all six categories could be raised to 100%.
So... Law would master all the six categories, and it would not be surprising even if he can create six different Nen Abilities.
"What a coincidence."
At this moment, Chrollo suddenly put down his left hand and raised his right hand. A crimson book suddenly conjured in his hand.
The book had a red cover on the front and a black cover on the back.
There was a bright red palm print on the cover of the book, and above the palm print was a row of characters in the common language, which meant: The Bandit's Secret.
"My Nen Ability also revolves around a book." Chrollo picked up the book, showed the front to Law and Machi, and smiled, "Maybe it's because I enjoy reading so much."
As he said that, he observed Machi and Law's expressions.
The former looked surprised. Well, this was a normal reaction. After all, this was the first time he had demonstrated his Nen Ability in front of Machi.
Although the latter also showed surprise, his expression carried a subtle air of deliberation, as though the reaction had been rehearsed.
'It was almost as if he already knew or had some prior understanding.'
'But I only recently developed this ability, and I've never showed it to anyone before. There's no reason he should know about it.'
'How strange…'
Chrollo maintained a faint smile while thinking silently in his heart.
"That's really a coincidence."
Law also stretched out his right hand and conjured the book, God Hand, then he showed a hearty smile.
"Maybe it's because I also enjoy reading so much."
