Chapter 22: Chapter 22 Chrollo
It is good news that Uvogin has woken up, as Law can take Nobunaga to the church without worry.
Since Nobunaga's injuries made it risky to move him at will, Law used whatever materials were on hand to make a simple stretcher.
After Machi explained what had happened while he was unconscious, Uvogin endured the pain and angrily kicked Cook's corpse, sending it flying dozens of meters away.
That kick wasn't just brute force, and it was actually infused with Aura.
After enduring a Nen User's Aura-infused attack, the Aura Nodes in the victim's body will be forcibly opened, and when the Aura in their body leaks out uncontrollably, the person will almost independently control how to control the flow of their Aura.
Uvogin's straightforward thinking and pure determination quickly allowed him to grasp the basics of controlling his Aura output.
"I owe you a life." Uvogin said as he watched Law secure Nobunaga onto the stretcher. He wanted to help just now, but accidentally broke a corner of the stretcher because although he could control his Aura now, he couldn't control it freely.
"Don't think too much of it."
After Law securely fastened Nobunaga on the stretcher, he carefully checked to ensure nothing was overlooked. He couldn't be careless. After all, if Nobunaga fell and it caused secondary damage, it would be disastrous.
Uvogin nodded silently. He wasn't the type to repeatedly express gratitude. Instead, he would remember the debt and repay it without hesitation when the opportunity arose.
At this point, he had fully accepted Law. If it weren't for Law, all three of them would have died today.
In fact, if it weren't for Law's arrival in their lives, this entire situation wouldn't have happened.
Neither side was aware of this twist of fate.
After securing Nobunaga on the stretcher, Law hoisted the stretcher onto his back. He had to keep his upper body bent to keep the stretcher suspended, which would make walking extremely uncomfortable.
"I will get back to Meteor City as fast as I can. Don't force yourself if you can't catch up." Law said to Uvogin. Before leaving, he did not forget to take the Hand of Ominous Signs with him.
As for the hauls Uvogin and the others obtained, they had no choice but to leave them behind.
"Got it."
Uvogin responded, then carried Machi on his back and followed after Law.
Despite being injured himself, he carried the wounded Machi, who couldn't walk due to her leg injuries, so he could not walk too fast.
Nobunaga had to be sent back to the church on Meteor City as quickly as possible, so Law is the best person to do so.
The two groups moved at vastly different speeds, so Law soon left Uvogin and Machi behind.
Along the way, they encountered several Meteor City's residents in protective gears, but neither Law nor Uvogin asked for help. And those people also responded with indifference.
The residents of Meteor City are both affectionate and heartless. They are affectionate to their close ones, but heartless to those they are not familiar with.
Even if Law and Uvogin asked for help, these people would definitely remain indifferent.
Law left Uvogin and Machi behind, with no intention of stopping to wait, because Nobunaga's situation was not optimistic.
Seeing that Law's shadow could no longer be seen, Uvogin didn't try to speed up.
"Sorry." Machi suddenly apologized.
Uvogin raised an eyebrow and asked in confusion: "Why?"
"That guy was after me and Law." Machi said softly, "And it was because of something I caused. If Law hadn't been here, we'd all be dead."
"But we didn't die, did we? And stop acting like it's your first day in Meteor City." Uvogin curled his lips and said.
Machi fell silent after hearing this.
"By the way, Nen really is something else." Uvogin grinned as he looked at the outline of Meteor City in the distance, his bloodstained teeth making the smile look feral.
From this moment on, a monster from Enhancement Category had begun his journey.
...
Law quickly reached the church with Nobunaga. Fortunately, the people in the church did not ask for money first, but immediately started to treat Nobunaga.
"Phew... I hope I made it in time."
Law muttered as he slumped against the wall, completely exhausted. It was only at this moment that he had time to rest.
As he closed his eyes, he began to process what happened today.
First, he found the Hand of Ominous Signs and discovered that he could increase his strength by absorbing Nen from objects. Then, he encountered a hostile Conjurer. He defeated the enemy with his own Nen Ability and absorbed the enemy's Nen that were strengthened by resentment.
The God Hand ability seems to be very useful, but it required regular practice to master.
As for methods to increase his strength, besides normal exercise, Law decided pay more attention to antiques. However, in a place like Meteor City, valuable antiques were rare.
'When I have improved my strength here to a certain extent, I will leave.' Law thought in his heart.
After a while, he leaned his head against the wall and fell asleep.
Two hours later.
When Uvogin arrived at the church carrying Machi on his back, the first thing they saw was Law asleep in the corner. They both remained silent, not wanting to wake him.
Since they were both injured, someone soon came to arrange treatment for them.
The next morning.
Law woke up and found that he was covered with a quilt. He also felt something resting against his shoulder, and when he turned his head, he saw it was Machi who is leaning on his shoulder.
"Huh?"
At this moment, Machi's eyes were closed, and she's still sleeping.
Law did not wake up Machi immediately. After being surprised to find Machi was sleeping here, he carefully lifted the quilt and checked Machi's thighs.
It's not for any inappropriate reason, but to see if her wounds had been treated.
After seeing that Machi's thighs were properly bandaged, Law finally felt relieved and slowly put down the quilt. Then, when he turned back to Machi, he was met with a calm pair of eyes staring right at him.
"Ah... good morning." Law said with an awkward smile. He inexplicably felt guilty at this moment.
Machi nodded slightly. She was very sensitive when she was sleeping and any small movement would wake her.
"Why are you sleeping here?" Law breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that Machi didn't seem to mind.
"There are no beds available," March explained plainly.
"How's Nobunaga?" Law asked.
"It's okay, he just needs to recuperate for a while." Machi said.
"That's good to hear. What about Uvogin?"
"Uvogin is lying quietly in bed. His injuries are serious too. He was just trying to be strong yesterday."
"..." Law's mouth twitched slightly, and he could only say that Uvogin deserved it.
Machi suddenly turned her head to look at a middle-aged man in the distance in the church and said, "The church does not provide free medical treatment. It's expensive."
"Huh?" Law was stunned.
Machi retracted her gaze and said calmly, "The money three of us had is not enough to pay even one tenth of the medical fees."
"What should we do then?" Law rubbed his forehead.
Machi seemed very calm and said, "I asked someone to inform Chrollo yesterday. He should be here by noon at the latest. Hopefully, he brings the money."
As if on cue, just after Machi finished speaking, the door of the church was slowly pushed open and two people walked in.
Law and Machi both looked toward the entrance, then Law heard Machi say, "Chrollo is here."
Hearing this, Law's eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at the black-haired child who appeared to be about his age among the two people standing at the door.
'So this is the leader of the Phantom Troupe. He's... small.'
When Law was looking at Chrollo, Chrollo also looked towards them.
Normally, Chrollo should look at Machi, after all, he knew her, but he didn't look at Machi. Instead, he looked at Law.
This marked the first meeting between Law and Chrollo.
