Chapter 19: Factory 4
Suyrune intensified its assault, deploying six energy whips that lashed through the battlefield with near-sonic speed. Each strike echoed like thunder, forcing Gurren Lagann to weave and dodge with precision. Despite the overwhelming onslaught, for every three hits Suyrune landed, Gurren Lagann managed to counter with one solid blow, each one leaving a mark on the enemy's pristine white armor.
The audience watching the projection held their breath, eyes glued to the battle. The tension was strong, the delicate balance could tip at any moment.
"Just stay down, you filthy humans!" Adiane's voice roared across the battlefield, her fury spilling out as she cracked her whips relentlessly. But no matter how devastating her attacks, Gurren Lagann would not yield. Its frame, battered and broken, continued to regenerate with a brilliance that defied all logic.
From the cockpit, Goro's voice rang out, amplified for all to hear.
"We humans may be weak... but listen…"
Kamina's voice joined his
"We've got the guts to never give up, even when it looks impossible!"
"That's why you beastmen will never win over us," Goro declared, his voice echoing across the battlefield and through the projection for all to hear. "For hundreds of years, you've tried to exterminate us. You forced us into the underground, into the dark, but still, we survived."
He leaned forward, gripping the controls of Gurren Lagann, the machine glowing brighter with spiral energy. Kamina, beside him, grinned, his fiery spirit matching Goro's.
"I carry the will of all who came before me," Goro declared.
"Every man, woman, and child who dreamed of the surface, who fought to survive, who refused to give in to despair."
Gurren Lagann's drill spun with unstoppable force, its golden glow illuminating the battlefield and cutting through the murky water Adiane had unleashed. The spiral energy coursing through the machine seemed to ripple outwards, igniting the hopes of every human watching the projection.
"I will be their drill!" Goro roared
"The drill to pierce the heavens and forge a future for all of humanity!"
Everyone who witnessed and heard Goro's declaration felt something stir within them.
For the humans, it was a surge of excitement, a rekindling of hope that made their hearts race . Those who had been beaten down by the battle, bloodied and exhausted, felt their strength return as though Goro's words had reignited their very spirits.
For the beastmen, however, it was a different story. An uncomfortable sickness crept into their stomachs. Goro's unyielding spirit and the raw power of his resolve intimidated them in a way they had never experienced before.
The battlefield began to shift.
Humans who had survived Adiane's relentless onslaught began to rise once more. They picked up their weapons and rallied together, their fear replaced by an unshakable determination to fight.
"I couldn't have said it any better, Goro!" Kamina shouted from within Gurren Lagann, his voice filled with pride and energy.
Adiane, usually brimming with confidence and pride, felt something unsettling as she faced Goro. It was unlike anything she had experienced in her countless battles against humans. This feeling gnawed at her, an unfamiliar sensation that she couldn't immediately place.
"What is this?" she muttered to herself, gripping the controls of Sayrune tightly.
Fear? No, it wasn't fear.
It was something deeper, something far more vexing. It was… respect. Respect for this human, this insignificant creature who refused to bow even when crushed under the weight of her power.
The sensation was unnerving. For a moment, Adiane found herself comparing Goro to someone she thought no human could ever emulate. The Spiral King.
Her eyes widened as the realization struck her, and then she shook her head violently, her anger flaring.
"Tch," she scoffed, trying to suppress the thought. "Ridiculous. No human could ever compare to Lordgenome!"
Her grip on the controls tightened, and her jaw clenched in frustration. Adiane channeled her rising anger into her Gunman.
"Enough games, hum…Goro! I'll crush you here and now and prove once and for all that humans are nothing but weak insects!" she snarled, her energy whips crackling with intensity as they lashed out toward Gurren Lagann.
But deep down, a crack formed in the indomitable confidence that had always defined her.
A panicked beastman soldier scrambled to Adiane's communication channel.
"General Adiane, we need to retreat! At this rate, we'll be wiped out!" his voice cracked with desperation as he watched the tides of battle shift.
Adiane's eyes burned with fury as she whipped her gaze toward the screen displaying her subordinate's trembling face.
"What the hell are you babbling about?" she snapped, her voice sharp and venomous. "Retreat? There's no way we're retreating! I am Adiane the Elegant, one of the Spiral King's Supreme Generals! I don't run from humans!"
Her voice echoed across the comms, silencing any further objections from her forces. She turned her attention back to the battlefield, where Gurren Lagann stood tall amidst the chaos, its spiral energy radiating like a beacon of defiance.
The beastman hesitated, his words faltering under her glare. "B-But General, the humans… their morale has skyrocketed, and their forces are regrouping. If we stay any longer-"
Adiane cut him off with a snarl, "If you're so scared, then stay out of my way! I'll show these pathetic creatures the might of the Spiral King's chosen!"
She gritted her teeth.
But even as she fought, her mind betrayed her with lingering thoughts of Goro and the unshakable spirit he displayed.
"What's wrong, Adiane? You've gotten sloppy. Finally feeling the weight of defeat on your hands?" Goro's voice rang through the battlefield
Adiane's composure shattered. "GOROOO!" she roared, her temper flaring as she launched Sayrune directly at Gurren Lagann in a reckless charge.
Goro saw his chance. He sidestepped the wild attack with precision and seized the moment. "Kamina!" he called out.
"Already on it!" Kamina replied, his voice brimming with confidence.
The two moved as if they shared one mind, their synchronization flawless.
"Take this, Giga Drill Breaker!" Gurren Lagann's arm transformed, a massive spiral drill forming in an instant. The drill spun with an ear-splitting roar, tearing through Sayrune's armor like paper.
The majestic white and pink Gunman shattered, its blue-winged remnants falling to the muddy ground. Adiane was exposed, her figure visible amidst the wreckage.
"Go on. End me," she spat, her voice defiant despite her helplessness.
Goro froze.
Amid the destruction, he found himself staring at Adiane. Her face, framed by her sharp features and intense crimson eyes, exuded a fierce beauty that caught him off guard. Even in defeat, she radiated an aura of dignity and strength that was impossible to ignore.
"Goro! What's the hold-up?" Kamina's voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
Goro shook his head, forcing himself to refocus. 'Right... she's the enemy,' he reminded himself, raising Gurren Lagann's arm for the final strike.
But before he could act, a beastman Gunman swooped in from above, grabbing the remains of Sayrune and pulling Adiane to safety.
"No! Let me die an honorable death!" Adiane screamed, her fists pounding the cockpit of her savior's Gunman.
The beastman ignored her protests, retreating swiftly with Sayrune's battered remnants in tow.
Goro watched them vanish over the horizon, his expression unreadable.
"What was that about?" Kamina asked, still in the heat of the moment.
"Nothing,"
