Gurren Lagann : Mecha Emperor

Chapter 20: Factory End

As the battlefield settled, the echoes of retreating beastmen and their Gunmen faded into the distance. The waters Adiane had unleashed began to recede, leaving the devastated terrain littered with debris and the remains of fallen machines.

"Victory!" Kamina's voice boomed through the comms, and cheers erupted from the surviving humans.

The projection of Gurren Lagann continued to glow in the sky

Goro got out of the cockpit and stood on top of gurren lagann's head

Goro's voice rang out, resonating with everyone watching.

"To all humans out there still fighting beastmen alone, or to those hiding in the underground, afraid to step into the light, know this. The time of fear is over! The time of change is now!"

His words reaching both survivors and those tuning in from hidden settlements scattered across the lands.

"Break free from the underground, cast aside your chains, and make it known to the beastmen that humanity will no longer cower in the shadows. If you want to fight for a cause, if you believe in something greater than yourself, stand up, rise, and join us."

Goro paused, his gaze meeting the holographic lens, as if locking eyes with every soul watching.

"We are Team Dai-Gurren, and we will be here, waiting for you."

As his voice faded, the projection began to flicker, its light dimming as the energy source was spent. But its impact remained.

Kamina was grinning like a madman. He slapped the side of the cockpit with pride.

"That's my bro! Did you see that?!" he shouted to no one in particular, his laughter echoing across the field.

"Hurray for Team Dai-Gurren!" one soldier shouted, pumping his fist in the air. "Hurray for Goro!"

Others joined in, their voices filled with pride and gratitude. Some clambered onto the remnants of their own battered Gunmen, raising makeshift flags or pieces of scrap metal as symbols of their hard-fought victory.

Kamina grinned broadly, waving at the troops who gathered around them in a loose circle.

"We did it!" one soldier exclaimed, throwing an arm around his comrade. "We really took down one of the Spiral King's generals!"

Mara sat in her gunmen, relief washing over her. Her headset still crackled with the fading sounds of Goro's voice and the cheers.

"He's incredible," she murmured, wiping a tear from her cheek. She turned to the others who had fought alongside her.

Many were injured, their uniforms tattered, but their spirits were unwavering.

Kamina smirked, slapping Goro on the back.

"See that, Goro? This is what it means to be a leader!"

As the soldiers of Team Dai-Gurren celebrated around Gurren Lagann, Riggs stood on the outskirts of the crowd, leaning against the battered frame of his Gunman. His arms were crossed, his face stoic, but his eyes never left Goro. The leader's words and the sheer audacity of his actions had sparked something deep within him.

"He's not just a leader..." Riggs thought to himself. "He's a damn force of nature."

He watched as Goro addressed the soldiers, the cheers growing louder with every word. The men and women who had been on the brink of despair not long ago now stood with their heads high.

"That's what separates him from the rest of us," Riggs murmured under his breath, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

Goro had a way of commanding that seemed effortless, something Riggs had always struggled with. He was strong, yes, arguably one of the strongest under gurren lagann, but strength alone didn't make a leader.

Mara approached Riggs, her face alight with relief and pride.

"Can you believe it, Riggs?" she said, gesturing toward the celebrating soldiers. "We actually did it. Goro did it."

Riggs nodded, his gaze still fixed on Goro. "Yeah, he did. The guy's incredible. But it wasn't just him. Everyone here gave it their all."

Mara tilted her head, studying him. "You gave it your all too. Don't sell yourself short. You held the line when things were at their worst. People saw that."

Riggs let out a dry chuckle. "Maybe. But it's different, Mara. Goro… he's something else. Watching him out there, it felt like he was carrying all of us on his back. I don't know if I could ever do that."

Mara placed a hand on his shoulder, her expression softening. "You don't have to be Goro, Riggs. You're you. And trust me, people see you, too. You inspire them in your own way."

Riggs gave her a brief smile before turning his attention back to the battlefield. His thoughts drifted to the moments of the fight. When all hope seemed to be lost, Goro somehow turned the battle around.

"Inspire them in my own way, huh?" he muttered, "Maybe one day."

As the celebration continued, Riggs stayed where he was, quietly reflecting.

Back in the Green Area City

The city was alive with energy, a wave of celebration sweeping through the streets like wildfire.

In the lab, Orik sat hunched over a cluttered workbench, illuminated by the soft glow of a dozen monitors. He had seen the end of the projection, Goro's triumphant words came to his mind. Yet, he merely smirked, brushing it off as if it were nothing.

"Heh, the results were obvious from the start," Orik muttered, his hands deftly tinkering with a new piece of spiral tech.

But while Orik remained in his lab, disconnected from the festivities, the streets outside were a completely different scene.

Crowds of citizens flooded the plaza, cheering and singing in unison. Brightly colored banners and makeshift decorations adorned every corner, and children ran through the streets with handmade Gurren Lagann flags. Street vendors handed out food and drinks, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

"To Goro! To Team Dai-Gurren!" the crowds chanted, their voices echoing across the city.

On one of the larger screens in the plaza, the projection of Gurren Lagann's final moments in the battle looped on repeat.

Amidst the celebration, an elderly woman stood on the steps of a building, her hands clasped together as tears streamed down her face. "They did it," she whispered. "They're changing the world for all of us."

In a quieter corner of the city, a group of young mechanics gathered around a small table. One of them stood up, raising a wrench like a sword.

"If they can fight, so can we! Let's get these old Gunmen operational again and join the fight!" he declared, earning nods of agreement from his friends.

In the Beastmen strongholds scattered across the lands, the reaction to Goro's victory was a mix.

The atmosphere was tense. Hundreds of Beastmen officers saw the projections of Goro's battle.

"That... that's a human?" one officer muttered in shock.

"He defeated General Adiane! A supreme general! The humans were supposed to be weak!"

"What if they go after us next?" one officer asked, his voice trembling with concern.

"Don't be an idiot. If they come, we destroy them," another scoffed dismissively, trying to hide his own unease.

"And how would you fight a human who defeated a general?"

"Ah, well… that's…"

The murmurs among the officers grew louder.

In a secluded chamber, Adiane sat alone, her body battered and bruised from the fight. Her Gunmen, Sayrune, was being repaired, though its once-pristine form now bore the scars of defeat.

Adiane's sharp nails tapped against the armrest of her chair as she replayed the battle in her mind.

"Goro," she hissed under her breath. "You dare to humiliate me in front of my forces, in front of the Spiral King."

The projection of Goro and his last speech flickered before her. She sat through it all, her hands clenched tightly in fists. Every moment, every word, stung like poison.

It was like Goro was taunting her while playing the hero.

The loss was bad enough, but being forced to retreat, her defeat blasted across the world for all to see, was a humiliation that destroyed any pride she had left.

Adiane clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms, the sharp pain helping to focus her swirling rage.

"I can't show my face to the Spiral King anymore, not until I have Goro's head" she muttered through gritted teeth, her voice heavy with frustration and shame. "Goro... this won't be the last you see of me."

In the Spiral King's throne room, the reaction was different. The Spiral King sat in his towering seat, his expression unreadable as he watched the projection of Goro's speech.

"Interesting," he finally said in a deep voice. "This human... he carries the spiral energy to its fullest potential. Perhaps it is time to test him further."

With a wave of his hand, he dismissed the generals gathered before him. The Spiral King leaned back, a faint smile playing on his lips.

"Let's see how far your resolve takes you, Goro," he murmured. "You may prove to be the key to humanity's greatest triumph... or its ultimate destruction."

Simon lingered at the edge of the battlefield, his eyes fixed on the towering figure of Gurren Lagann as Goro and Kamina stood victorious atop it. The projection in the sky had faded, but its impact lingered, the echo of Goro's inspiring words reverberating in his mind.

Pride for his friends surged in his chest, but it was quickly overshadowed by a gnawing sense of inferiority. His fists clenched at his sides, his knuckles white as he looked down at the ground.

"They're amazing... and I'm just..." Simon muttered under his breath, his voice barely audible even to himself.

The memory of his inaction during the battle flashed through his mind, how he had hesitated, how he had frozen while others fought and bled around him.

"What am I even doing here? I didn't earn this victory. I didn't help. I just... stood there."

He glanced up once more at Gurren Lagann, its imposing frame a symbol of hope and power. But to Simon, it was also a reminder of his own failings.

No one noticed as Simon began to step away, his movements slow and deliberate, as if each step carried the weight of his doubts and insecurities. He kept his head low, avoiding the gaze of the celebrating humans and his comrades.

The cheers of the crowd grew distant as he moved further from the battlefield.

"Goro, Kamina... you don't need someone like me," Simon thought, his heart heavy. "Not when I'm this weak."

The shadow of Gurren Lagann loomed over the horizon behind him as Simon disappeared into the wreckage and debris, his figure swallowed by the quiet aftermath of the battle.

He didn't know where he was going, but he knew one thing for certain, he couldn't face Goro and Kamina, not like this. Not until he proved to himself that he was more than just a scared, useless kid.

"Goro, we have contact!" Mara yelled, excitement ringing in her voice as she looked at the screen. "One, no, two, three... Wait, it's not stopping! Signals are coming in from all over the world!"

Goro's eyes narrowed in curiosity as he leaned forward.

"Hey, am I speaking with Team Dai-Gurren?..."

"I'm from Dye Village down in the east…"

"I heard your messages, Team Dai-Gurren, and I want to be a part of it!..."
