Harry Potter: Journey to Godhood

Chapter 414: Chapter 414: The Siege

Despite the Stormwind Kingdom's extreme urban warfare tactics that had held back the orc tribes' advance at Goldshire, everyone knew this situation was only temporary.

According to the intelligence revealed by Garona, the leaders of Stormwind Kingdom were aware that the orcs' strategy always aimed at quickly attacking the biggest target to bring it down.

So even if they faced slight setbacks, they would regroup and continue until Stormwind City fell.

In this context, Stormwind Kingdom even sent a plea for help to their guardian, Medivh of Karazhan, hoping that their old friend would once again step in to save the kingdom.

Unfortunately, this time, Karazhan did not respond.

This left Lothar and Llane feeling quite disappointed; however, they optimistically thought that perhaps Medivh had more important matters to attend to, or that this was part of a larger plan he had.

Only Alaric knew that Medivh was now under an increasing influence from Sargeras, making it unlikely for him to confront the orcs.

With their hopes dashed, Stormwind Kingdom began actively preparing for the impending war.

On one hand, they started piling logs, stones, and other defensive tools on the city walls.

On the other hand, they finally began evacuating the soldiers stationed at Goldshire to prevent them from being caught by the orcs' main army.

As expected, the orcs finally stopped sending small tribal forces for probing attacks and attrition.

This time, the attackers were the Bleeding Hollow Clan and the Twilight Hammer Clan.

These two clans were far from the minor threats faced previously.

The Bleeding Hollow Clan was one of the seven most powerful clans of the orc tribes, once considered the mightiest in all of Draenor, led by Kilrog Deadeye.

The leader of the Twilight Hammer Clan was not an orc but a two-headed ogre mage named Gul'dan.

They served Gul'dan and his warlock organization, the Shadow Council, but secretly, their true allegiance was to the Old Gods.

This army not only boasted powerful orc warriors but also warlocks from the Twilight Hammer, making them a formidable force. However, they still showed weaknesses.

"According to the scouts' report, leading the charge is a clan called the Twilight Hammer, with over ten thousand orc and ogre warriors, as well as many... warlocks. That's the term, right?

They are camped near Goldshire, but they could advance on Stormwind City at any time.

They have also prepared numerous catapults, seemingly ready for a full assault on the city, while another clan called the Bleeding Hollow is positioned further back, likely serving as a backup for the siege."

In the grand hall of the palace, a military conference was taking place, with Lothar, the temporary commander of the Stormwind army, summarizing the information brought by the scouts.

Besides King Llane and the nobles and generals of Stormwind Kingdom, Alaric attended as a representative of Dalaran and an expert on orcs, with Garona always by his side.

Upon hearing Lothar's report, Garona almost blurted out.

"Impossible!" she exclaimed loudly.

"The Twilight Hammer never employs brute force in sieges; the cunning Gul'dan would never waste his warriors and warlocks so easily. There must be something wrong."

After following Alaric for several days and under his guidance, Garona had become quite fluent in the human language.

"Is that so?" Lothar looked at the intelligence in his hand with doubt and insisted.

"The scouts brought this news, and they wouldn't mistake a two-headed ogre for an orc. I trust their intelligence."

"But, but..." Garona wanted to say more. If the intelligence was true, then Gul'dan's actions were completely different from his past behavior, indicating that something was amiss.

"Could it be infighting?" Alaric suggested.

"Uh, quite possibly," Garona said, inspired by Alaric's words. "Gul'dan must have clashed with Kilrog of the Bleeding Hollow Clan.

However, Kilrog's position is crucial within the orc tribes, and Gul'dan cannot contend with him. I suspect Kilrog is attempting to eliminate a rival, merely using Stormwind City to accomplish this."

"So even in the midst of their attack, they're still scheming against each other," Lothar nodded thoughtfully upon hearing this.

"Although it's hard to believe, no one here knows the orcs better than you, so I trust your judgment... which means there's an opportunity to exploit."

After some discussion, everyone settled on a strategy to confront the enemy and began preparations.

That night, Lothar led most of the cavalry from Stormwind City, stealthily leaving the city and hiding in the Elwynn Forest.

The next day, Stormwind received reports from scouts that the orc army had mobilized and was advancing toward the city.

That night, the orc forces arrived at the gates of Stormwind and surrounded the city.

The Twilight Hammer Clan launched a furious assault on Stormwind.

Outside the city, their catapults lined up, targeting Stormwind City, surrounded by a thick mass of troops.

It was easy to identify the towering ogres, while the relatively smaller figures were the orcs.

In the rear of the army stood several warlocks clad in black robes, wielding staffs adorned with skulls, radiating a chilling aura from afar.

Such a sight sent shivers down the spines of the guards on the walls.

In the distance, the sprawling orc encampment housed Kilrog's Bleeding Hollow Clan, indicating that Garona's suspicions were indeed correct—Kilrog had deliberately sent the Twilight Hammer in as the vanguard to use them as a scapegoat.

Gul'dan, the chief of the Twilight Hammer, was quite displeased with Kilrog's tactics. However, the situation compelled him to compromise in the face of the powerful Bleeding Hollow Clan.

Nonetheless, Gul'dan believed that launching a direct assault on Stormwind City was not a daunting task.

Though such an attack would undoubtedly incur heavy casualties, capturing the city seemed almost a sure thing.

With that thought in mind, he issued the command to attack.

The first to strike were the orc siege engines and catapults.

Under the supervision of overseers, the orc laborers loaded stones and incendiary devices into the catapults' iron frames and, following the command, launched their ammunition.

In an instant, hundreds of stones mixed with incendiary devices flew toward the city walls, each stone seemingly the size of a millstone, whistling through the air as they soared.

Seeing this, the soldiers cowered against the walls, trembling in fear of being struck by the incoming projectiles.
