Chapter 16: Bloodbath (Part 2/3)
[THIRD PERSON POV]
The battle raged on as Griselda and the vampire swordsman clashed in a brutal duel.
Each strike sent sparks flying, and the echoes of their blades filled the catacombs.
Griselda had sustained a few cuts along her arms and legs, but she held her ground, her grip on Excalibur Destruction firm.
Meanwhile, the vampire swordsman showed no signs of slowing down.
Every injury he received healed almost instantly, his vampire physiology giving him an unfair advantage.
Griselda narrowed her eyes as she launched into a flurry of precise thrusts, aiming to find an opening.
The vampire, sensing the danger, leaped back and sent a series of slash projectiles hurtling toward her.
"Crap."
Griselda cursed under her breath, barely managing to dodge as the crimson blades carved through the air, slicing apart anything in their path, including other vampires who were unlucky enough to be nearby.
Her sharp gaze caught sight of the carnage left in the wake of the blood slashes.
The swordsman didn't even flinch at the loss of his comrades, his focus entirely on her.
"How despicable. You don't even spare your own kind."
Griselda said with disdain, dodging another volley.
The vampire swordsman offered no reply, his face an impassive mask.
He simply continued his relentless assault, forcing Griselda to keep moving and watching for an opening.
Finally, her patience ran out.
With a surge of determination, she channeled her Holy Power into Excalibur Destruction.
The blade gleamed with radiant energy as she raised it high.
"Enough of this!"
She yelled, bringing the blade down and releasing a devastating beam of destruction.
The blinding blast annihilated dozens of vampires in its path, reducing them to ash.
The swordsman's eyes widened in shock as he barely managed to dodge, but the attack mutilated his left arm, leaving it hanging uselessly.
He didn't so much as wince, instead charging forward with grim resolve.
Griselda anticipated the move and pivoted.
As the vampire swordsman lunged, she twisted behind him with lightning speed.
Excalibur Destruction flashed, and with a single, decisive stroke, she severed his head from his body.
The vampire crumpled to the ground, his undead life extinguished.
*Pant x5*
Panting, Griselda steadied herself, taking a moment to regain her breath.
She glanced down at the lifeless body and muttered.
"For a heartless monster who kills his own comrades, your swordsmanship wasn't half bad."
Her eyes shifted to where Arthur and Lord Manthar were locked in a fierce battle.
Sparks of magic and blood erupted between them, but Griselda pushed aside her concern.
"He'll be fine. After all, he's strong."
She had faith that Arthur could handle himself.
However, her gaze then fell on Belladonna.
The werewolf was heavily injured, her movements slowing as she struggled against the twin vampire mages.
The twins cackled, mocking Belladonna as they prepared to finish her off.
Griselda frowned deeply, gripping her sword tightly.
There was no hesitation in her decision.
"Hang on, Belladonna. I'm coming."
She muttered, breaking into a sprint toward her.
On the other side of the battlefield, Belladonna found herself at her limit.
Exhausted, bloodied, and riddled with silver bullets that halted her regeneration, she staggered, coughing blood.
Her breaths were labored, but she glared defiantly at the vampire twins.
"Here I thought you two were real magicians, but you're both using guns like humans that you mocked."
She rasped, her voice filled with scorn despite her battered state.
The first twin scowled, leveling her silver-plated revolver at Belladonna.
"It doesn't matter what you think, mutt. It's your fault for being weak!"
She snarled, venom dripping from her words.
The second twin nodded silently, her expression calm yet menacing.
"Die."
As the twins raised their revolvers, ready to finish Belladonna, a small rock flew through the air, striking the first twin in the arm.
Startled, the twins turned to see a little boy, one of the human captives, standing bravely amidst the chaos.
He hurled another stone and shouted.
"Leave her alone, you monsters!"
Belladonna's heart wrenched at the sight of the boy's selflessness.
Despite her pain, she growled.
"Get back, kid! It's too dangerous!"
The first twin's face twisted with fury.
"How dare you, mere livestock, interfere!"
She screamed, aiming her revolver at the boy.
"No!"
Belladonna roared, summoning what little strength she had left.
She threw herself in front of the boy, shielding him with her massive werewolf form.
The silver bullets struck her, sending searing pain through her body.
She collapsed, wailing in agony, her form reverting to that of a naked, bloodied human.
The first twin laughed cruelly, standing over Belladonna.
"Seriously? You're dying, and you're still trying to play the hero? How pathetic and stupid of you."
She kicked Belladonna viciously, each blow accompanied by mocking words.
"You're weak. In this world, it's kill or be killed. We do whatever it takes to survive, no matter what."
The first twin spat, punctuating her words with another brutal kick.
The second twin, calm and cold, aimed a glowing magic circle at Belladonna.
"Survival is all that matters. Whether it's lying, stealing, killing, or becoming monsters ourselves, we do what we must."
She said softly.
The humans cowered in terror, pleading for mercy but too afraid to intervene.
The twins spoke in unison, their voices laced with malice.
"It's time to die, dog."
They prepared to unleash their combined magic on the fallen Belladonna.
Belladonna looked up weakly from the ground, her vision blurry with pain and despair.
'I'm sorry, Arthur. I'm too weak.'
She thought, resigning herself to her fate.
A sudden beam of holy light seared through the air, cutting between Belladonna and the twins.
The ground cracked and split, creating a small canyon that separated them.
The first twin stumbled back, shouting.
"What the hell?!"
The twins turned to see Griselda standing tall, her Excalibur Destruction glowing with righteous fury.
She moved swiftly to Belladonna's side, pulling out a holy scripture from nowhere.
"You're just in time, Griselda."
Belladonna muttered weakly as Griselda knelt beside her, placing the scripture on her back.
"Are you okay?"
Griselda asked, her voice steady but filled with concern.
Belladonna sat up slightly, wincing as she replied.
"I'll live. Thanks for the save."
Griselda nodded.
"The paper on your back is one of the various holy scriptures that I have. This one will stop the bleeding, but it won't fully heal you. You'll need time to recover."
Belladonna grimaced but began plucking the silver bullets from her wounds with trembling fingers.
"I'll manage, but give me some time to heal."
She said through gritted teeth.
Griselda stood, turning her attention to the vampire twins.
Pointing her blade at them, her expression was cold and resolute.
"Your fight is with me now and you'll pay for what you've done."
She declared.
The twins exchanged a glance, their confidence faltering for the first time as Griselda's holy aura surged around her.
The battle was far from over.
[ARTHUR'S POV]
I teleported high into the air, conjuring an arsenal of weapons that hovered around me, glinting ominously in the dim light.
With a wave of my hand, I sent the deadly projectiles hurtling toward Lord Manthar like a storm of steel and magic.
Manthar snarled, unfazed, and created a swirling blood portal.
My weapons vanished into it, only to emerge from another portal aimed back at me.
'Did he just UNO reverse card me?'
Annoyed but prepared, I stopped the weapons mid-air with a flick of my wrist and desummoned them.
I didn't waste a moment.
In the blink of an eye, I teleported directly in front of him, twin battle axes materializing in my hands.
With a roar, I swung the axes in a flurry of attacks.
Manthar raised his staff, parrying with surprising speed and precision.
Sparks flew as our weapons clashed, each strike shaking the air around us.
We moved in a deadly dance, my blue magic circles glowing as I unleashed elemental spells.
Fireballs, Icicles, and Thunderbolts.
Manthar countered with his crimson circles, hurling blood projectiles that sizzled and hissed as they collided with my magic.
Our weapons locked in a stalemate, the axes grinding against his staff as we pushed against each other.
Manthar's blood-red eyes glared into mine, and he hissed through clenched teeth.
"I admit, you are stong, boy. But you cannot stop the resurrection of Absalom. It is inevitable!"
I smirked, narrowing my eyes.
"Like hell we can't, asshole!"
Before he could respond, I leaned forward and slammed my forehead into his.
The impact sent a jolt of pain through my skull, and I winced, gritting my teeth.
"Damn, you're hardheaded, literally."
I quipped, rubbing my forehead.
Manthar stumbled back slightly, hissing in irritation.
Without warning, his form dissolved into a swarm of bats, scattering and reforming atop one of the stone pillars scattered around the chamber.
"Oh, no, you don't!"
I shouted, teleporting to follow him.
Manthar turned just in time to see me mid-air, both axes raised.
I activated Triple Impact, sending a surge of power through the weapons as I swung them downward.
He leaped to another pillar, narrowly avoiding my attack.
My axes struck the stone, and the entire structure crumbled under the force, collapsing in a cloud of dust and debris.
"You're not getting away that easily!"
I roared, teleporting to the next pillar.
The chase was on.
Each time Manthar jumped to a new perch, I followed, swinging my axes and shattering the stone structures one by one.
The surrounding vampires became collateral from my destruction, but I wasn't that focused at them at the moment.
My frustration mounted with every near-miss, but I wasn't about to let him slip away.
"Come back here and face me like a man, you coward!"
I yelled, my voice echoing through the cavernous space as our deadly game of cat and mouse continued.
