50. A Name for This Chapter
Shen Shi had an inexplicable feeling of melancholy today. Sure, he knew the senior year class assignments would mean changes, but the problem was that there were just too many guys in this class. Besides Li Qian, there wasn’t a single girl worth looking at. For a gentleman like him, it was a major disappointment.
He casually looked around the classroom at the remaining seats—there weren’t many left. Who knew if more girls would come in? But even if they did, they probably wouldn’t be much to look at.
Just then, Xu Qing and Ling Ning walked in together. The boys in the classroom simultaneously turned their attention to them. After all, the combined impact of two beautiful girls was quite considerable.
After the two entered, they found that there were only a few seats left—the front row had been claimed by the top students, while the back was occupied by the slackers. With no other options, they randomly picked two seats, figuring the teacher would likely rearrange everyone anyway.
Shen Shi looked at Ling Ning, puzzled. He knew Xu Qing, but he wasn’t familiar with the beautiful girl beside her, though she did seem vaguely familiar somehow. He just couldn’t place her.
While his grades were nothing to brag about, he had an exceptional memory for beautiful girls. Maybe not photographic, but after a few glances, he could always remember them. A girl with such an elegant, mature aura was not someone he’d easily forget. Either way, having another pretty girl in his class was definitely a good thing.
As Shen Shi was contemplating Ling Ning, another stunning girl walked into the classroom. He remembered this one vividly—the delicate and soft demeanor that naturally aroused one’s protective instincts.
Sure enough, it was Xia You.
Xia You walked in, intending to grab any open seat. But the moment she spotted Ling Ning, she immediately headed over to her.
“Ling Ning, I didn’t expect you to be in this class too!” Xia You’s voice was filled with excitement. She hadn’t expected to be in the same class as Ling Ning.
“Yo~ Xia You! What a coincidence!” Ling Ning was just as surprised, not having expected Xia You to be assigned to her class as well.
Xia You glanced at Xu Qing, who was sitting next to Ling Ning, her eyebrows subtly knitting together. Then, she took the seat right behind Ling Ning, enjoying the faint fragrance that wafted from Ling Ning and closing her eyes in contentment.
Seeing the three beauties sitting together, Shen Shi’s eyes nearly popped out of his head. He could only hope that the homeroom teacher wouldn’t split them up during the seating rearrangement. And if Li Qian could join them, that’d be perfect!
Li Qian, meanwhile, was staring at Ling Ning, a puzzled look on her face. She felt like she had seen her somewhere before but just couldn’t quite remember. In the end, she gave up.
“Riiing, riiing~”
The bell signaling the start of class rang, and the chatter in the classroom faded away. Everyone wanted to make a good impression in front of the homeroom teacher, especially since their senior year would determine whether they had a good or bad experience.
It wasn’t long before a familiar figure walked in—a young woman with long, ashen-brown wavy hair. It was none other than Ye Xuan. The students were all curious about this woman, who didn’t seem much older than themselves, and began whispering about her.
Ye Xuan surveyed the room with her signature icy glare, then said indifferently, “Hello, everyone. My name is Ye Xuan—Ye, as in ‘leaf,’ and Xuan, as in ‘daylily.'” She turned to the blackboard and wrote her name in flowing strokes. Her chalkboard handwriting was neat and beautiful—it was clear she had practiced.
Ling Ning stared at Ye Xuan in a daze, utterly at a loss.
The other students, upon hearing that this woman who looked only a little older than themselves was their homeroom teacher, couldn’t help but start murmuring again.
“If you want to continue your discussion, feel free to do it outside before coming back in.”
Ye Xuan’s voice wasn’t loud, but it carried an indescribable authority. Most of the students quickly quieted down, and those who didn’t were silenced by Ye Xuan’s frostbitten gaze.
Honestly, could anyone become a senior year homeroom teacher without a few tricks up their sleeve?
Once the room had quieted down, Ye Xuan said, “This is my first time being a senior class homeroom teacher, so I might not have everything perfectly arranged. I hope you’ll all be understanding, and I look forward to spending the next year with you all.” Though her words seemed polite, her cold eyes and expression made it feel like she was more interested in stirring up trouble.
“Alright, let’s begin roll call.”
“Shen Shi.”
“Present.”
“Bai Xuejia.”
“Here.”
“Fashi.”
“Right here~”

“Ling Ning.”
“Present…”
Hearing Ling Ning’s voice, Li Qian suddenly remembered who she was. No wonder she had felt like she’d seen her before—Ling Ning was that gloomy girl who was always being bullied. The change was so drastic that she hadn’t recognized her at all. Compared to before, she seemed like an entirely different person.
Not only that, but her clothing was different too. Wasn’t Ling Ning’s family supposed to be poor? The outfit she wore now clearly didn’t match her supposed economic status. Even her demeanor was different—it was like she had become someone else.
Shen Shi had the same thoughts. He had been in the same class as Ling Ning before, and he knew exactly what kind of person she had been. This transformation was simply unbelievable. What on earth had happened in just one month to make her change so much?
After roll call, it was time to rearrange seats. Ling Ning took the opportunity to say a few words to Ye Xuan, asking her to move her, Xu Qing, and Xia You to better seats. Indeed, it paid to have connections.
Once the seating was sorted, they began distributing books, which of course meant that books had to be carried. Ling Ning realized that being a girl had its perks—if she were still a boy, she’d have been called out to move the books for sure. Now, she could just sit back and chat with Xia You in the classroom.
“Did you know Ms. Ye Xuan was going to be our teacher?” Xia You asked.
“What?! No, I had no idea,” Ling Ning replied, bewildered.
“Ms. Ye Xuan used to teach at St. Freya Academy, but for some reason, she was transferred here,” Xia You explained.
Ling Ning thought back, remembering how Zhou Xiaoxiao was always so respectful to Ye Xuan—serving her tea first, obeying her every word. It all made sense now. Ling Ning finally understood.
But why had Ye Xuan transferred here so suddenly? St. Freya had a far better teaching environment than this place, so why the switch? Ling Ning couldn’t figure it out, no matter how hard she thought.
