How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating?

72. Seeing Things Through Fujoshi Eyes

It was another beautiful Sunday, a rare day off for Ling Ning, and yet her phone woke her up early. She groggily answered, only to hear Xu Qing’s voice reminding her about their shopping plans for the day.

Ling Ning sighed. She’d long held the belief that shopping with girls was an expensive venture, and as a thrifty “good housewife” at heart, she avoided shopping as much as possible. For her, shopping meant spending money, and spending money meant a hit to her savings—a prospect she couldn’t bear.

Whenever she had to go out for daily essentials, she would take only the exact amount needed for her purchases, not a penny more, to avoid any temptation from sales or discounts. But a promise was a promise, and as a woman of her word, Ling Ning reluctantly prepared to head out.

After wrestling herself free from her blanket’s “seal,” her first instinct was to tuck her daughter in before realizing that, ever since they’d moved to the new apartment, Ling Ye had been sleeping in her own room.

An unexpected pang of sadness hit her. She realized how empty her bed felt without her daughter curled up beside her. “I miss having her as my little hug pillow,” she muttered, though she’d never admit it out loud. After all, wasn’t it usually the child who asked to sleep with the mother?

She opened her daughter’s door quietly. A blast of icy air greeted her, chilling her to the core. “Why does this feel like a scene from some supernatural novel?” she thought, shaking off the creepy feeling.

“Really now, setting the AC so low, aren’t you worried about catching a cold~” Ling Ning said softly with resignation as she looked at Ling Ye, who was still sound asleep.

Ling Ning turned up the temperature on the air conditioner, tucked Ling Ye’s blanket in properly, then turned and walked out of the room.

If Ling Ning had looked more carefully, she would have definitely noticed half of QB’s face peeking out from under her daughter’s pillow…

“You’re so slow, Ling Ning!”

Xu Qing was waiting outside in a white dress, her usually ponytailed hair loose and flowing. With her light makeup and radiant smile, she looked like a fresh, pure flower in full bloom.

“Sorry, I, uh… had some unexpected ‘obstacles’ this morning,” Ling Ning said, feigning nonchalance as she took in her friend’s appearance.

“So, that’s why you were still in bed when I called?” Xu Qing teased.

“How did you…?” Ling Ning began, realizing too late that she’d just admitted to it.

Xu Qing smiled knowingly. “You’re too young to pull that on me.”

Ling Ning huffed inwardly. Young? If only Xu Qing knew—she was old enough to be Xu Qing’s mother with her combined lifetimes. But she let it go, focusing instead on their shopping plans.

Following Xu Qing, Ling Ning’s mind wandered momentarily, memories of someone dear to her from her previous life surfacing unexpectedly. For a moment, she almost mistook Xu Qing for her, lost in a bittersweet daydream until Xu Qing’s voice snapped her back.

“What’s on your mind?” Xu Qing asked, puzzled.

“Oh, it’s nothing,” Ling Ning replied, hiding a wistful smile. I’m not in my old world anymore, she reminded herself. Even if she were, the person she thought of was long gone.

Xu Qing tilted her head, sensing a fleeting sadness in Ling Ning’s expression. She chalked it up to her imagination, though.

“Do you think this dress looks good on me?” Xu Qing asked, holding up a black dress in front of herself. Her eyes sparkled, suggesting she was already smitten with it.

Ling Ning took the dress, examined it, then studied Xu Qing intently, sometimes nodding, sometimes shaking her head. Her gaze was so intense that Xu Qing’s face turned slightly pink.

After a moment of deliberation, Ling Ning spoke. “I don’t think this one suits you well, and it’s a bit pricey.” Scanning the racks, she picked out a sky-blue dress and handed it to Xu Qing. “This one would suit you better and is easier on the wallet.”

“Really?”

“Try it on; there’s a fitting room right there,” Ling Ning said, amused by Xu Qing’s skepticism.

Xu Qing went in to change, and after comparing the two outfits, she had to admit that the blue dress really did look better on her. Ling Ning’s time with Qin Qing had refined her fashion sense; though she wasn’t quite at Qin Qing’s level, she’d developed a keen eye for style.

With a bit of encouragement from Ling Ning, Xu Qing decided to buy the dress.

During lunch, they ran into two familiar faces—Chu Feng, dressed in women’s clothing, and Zhao Dezhu, who seemed awkward and flustered.

“Sister Ling Ning, it’s not what it looks like!”

Chu Feng exclaimed, clearly embarrassed. He hadn’t planned to meet Zhao Dezhu, but after turning him down repeatedly, he’d finally agreed to a meal together.

When it came to dressing, he’d debated between men’s and women’s clothing, finally opting for the latter out of habit, thinking he could come clean about it later.

But the last thing he’d expected was to run into someone he knew.

“Oh, don’t worry about it! I understand,” Ling Ning replied with a knowing smile, thinking how similar Chu Feng and his sister, Chu Mengyao, were in both looks and inclinations.

Xu Qing looked confused, glancing between Ling Ning, Chu Feng, and Zhao Dezhu. These weren’t people she knew, so she was left in the dark.

“Really, it’s not like that!” Chu Feng insisted, but Ling Ning had already grabbed Xu Qing’s hand and started to leave.

“Why are we leaving? That place looked good,” Xu Qing asked as they walked away.

“Oh, let’s just eat somewhere else,” Ling Ning replied with a mischievous grin.
