How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating?

71. Just an Ordinary Day for Xia You

As usual, Xia You woke up early, around five in the morning. Within half an hour, she had washed up, gotten dressed, and was out the door, precisely at 5:30.

The sky outside was already beginning to lighten, but there were still few people around. A few breakfast shops had opened, and she bought two large steamed buns and a cup of fresh soy milk from a street vendor, eating her breakfast as she headed for the subway.

By the time she reached the subway station, she’d finished her breakfast. Glancing at her phone, she saw that it was just past six, and since the first train wouldn’t arrive until 6:30, she had a few minutes to spare. She took out her phone and began scrolling through her photo album. If Ling Ning had been there, she would have noticed that Xia You was scrolling through pictures of her—photos taken at school, at the café, and from various angles, even some from beneath desks.

“Every time I look at pictures of Ling Ning, I just feel this gentle happiness~” Xia You thought to herself with a contented smile.

After a short subway ride to the station near her school, Xia You didn’t head straight to campus. Instead, she went in the opposite direction.

“It should be right around here,” she murmured, looking up at a nearby apartment complex. This was where Ling Ning had recently moved. Xia You knew about the move because she’d offered to help, but Ling Ning had declined. Nevertheless, Xia You had managed to get the new address.

While the new apartment was closer to school, Xia You wasn’t particularly thrilled about it. A shorter commute meant less time to follow Ling Ning in the mornings, a routine she’d come to cherish.

Xia You checked her watch, estimating that Ling Ning would be leaving her building soon.

Sure enough, a few minutes later, Ling Ning emerged, looking half-asleep and yawning as she walked. In her drowsy state, Ling Ning didn’t notice Xia You lurking in the shadows nearby, watching her intently.

“Ah~ She’s just as stunning as ever,” Xia You whispered to herself, a look of quiet admiration on her face.

As Ling Ning walked slowly toward the school, Xia You followed at a careful distance, her movements smooth and practiced, as if tailing someone was second nature to her. She even took out her phone to snap photos of Ling Ning from different angles without anyone noticing. Her skill was impressive.

When they were close to the school, Xia You slipped ahead through a side path, arriving at the front gate just before Ling Ning. She put on her usual shy expression and pretended to run into her “by chance.”

“Oh, Xia You, here so early?” Ling Ning greeted her with a slight smile.

“Good morning, Ling Ning,” Xia You replied, her previous intense gaze replaced with a soft, innocent look.

“We’re actually almost late~” Ling Ning teased, finishing her breakfast drink and looking around for a trash can.

“Oh! I’ll take that for you,” Xia You said quickly. “I was just heading to the convenience store, so I can throw it away on the way.”

“Thanks, Xia You.” Ling Ning handed her the empty drink container and headed up the stairs.

As soon as she was out of sight, Xia You carefully removed the straw from the container, treating it as if it were a rare treasure.

“Ling Ning’s teeth marks… so cute, I want to lick them,” she murmured, a dreamy smile spreading across her face. But she restrained herself, aware that she was still at school, surrounded by prying eyes.

After wrapping the straw in a tissue and tucking it safely into her bag, she was about to head to class when something caught her eye on the ground—a small, black USB drive.

Curious, she picked it up and noticed it was labeled “TOP SECRET.” Aside from the label, it looked like a normal USB drive.

“Probably someone dropped it here by accident. I’ll hand it over to a teacher later,” Xia You decided, slipping it into her bag before heading into the school building.

Not long after Xia You left, a nerdy-looking boy approached the area, muttering to himself in frustration. “I swear, I put it in my bag… How did it fall out?”

He was looking for his USB drive, which he’d labeled “Yandere Yuri.” He’d even sealed it in a plastic bag, but somehow the USB drive had vanished, even though the bag was still intact. *What kind of magic is this?* he wondered, annoyed.

Although he knew finding it in such a busy school was unlikely, he kept searching, hoping he could avoid a potential disaster. He scoured every inch of the area, even checking under bushes and in the grass, but the drive was nowhere to be found.

“Now, three of my Seven Sacred Relics have been lost. At this rate, the rest will surely follow. It’s a sign… The world is about to change,” he muttered, looking unexpectedly dignified as he gazed into the distance.

But his lofty thoughts were cut short when a voice bellowed, “Wei Suozhai! What are you doing out here? Class started five minutes ago!”

“Sorry, teacher!” With a defeated look, Wei Suozhai shuffled toward the teacher, silently mourning his lost “study material.”

After school, Xia You returned home, only to be greeted by the overpowering smell of alcohol. She frowned as she saw her father passed out on the sofa, surrounded by empty bottles.

Resisting the urge to grab a kitchen knife, she quietly went to her room. She took out the straw Ling Ning had used earlier, prepared to savor her “Ling Ning energy.” But when she opened her bag, she noticed the USB drive she’d picked up that morning.

“Oh, right. I was supposed to give this to a teacher,” she thought. But as she looked at the “TOP SECRET” label on the drive, her curiosity piqued. What could be on it?

Without further hesitation, she pulled out her laptop from under her bed. She’d saved up from her part-time job to buy it, and kept it hidden to protect it from her father’s fits of rage, which often involved him smashing things.

She plugged in the USB drive, her heart pounding as she opened the files, ready to explore this “new world.”
