How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating?

79. The Church of Healing

Even though it was a rest day, Ling Ye was up bright and early. To be precise, she hadn’t really slept; she’d only fallen asleep around four in the morning and had woken up again when her mom left for work.

Ling Ye had spent the whole night thinking. Although her plan to come clean about her feelings yesterday had been interrupted by her mom, she was determined to make it happen today. She couldn’t let their ambiguous relationship continue—it would only lead to trouble, and she’d seen enough drama in TV shows and anime to know it never ended well.

After finishing breakfast, Ling Ye started going over her room, making sure everything was in order. Her mom had organized the whole place the night before and even double-checked it in the morning, so there was nothing left to clean up.

Even the snacks and fruit were set out on the table, and the laptop was plugged in and ready. With nothing left to do, Ling Ye sat blankly on the sofa, her mind too preoccupied for studying, silently praying her plan would succeed.

“Ding-dong~”

The sound of the doorbell made her jump. She sprang up, took a deep breath, walked to the door, and adjusted her expression to look as natural as possible before opening it slowly.

“Hello, ‘Anywhere Deliveries’! Is Ms. Ling Ning home? I have a package for her.”

“Tch, wasted all that effort,” Ling Ye grumbled, her hopeful smile instantly turning into a disappointed pout. She lazily took the package, signed for it, and closed the door.

“Reinhardt Lingerie? When did Mom order more lingerie?” Ling Ye wondered, suddenly realizing that her mom’s figure had indeed grown a bit lately.

She stashed the package in the storage cabinet without a second thought; if it didn’t have her mom’s scent, it wasn’t worth her interest.

“Ding-dong~”

Ling Ye hadn’t even sat back down when the doorbell rang again. Sighing, she fixed her expression once more and slowly opened the door…

“Hello! We’re representatives of the Church of Healing. May we…”

Bam!

Without a word, Ling Ye shut the door. From the name alone, she could tell this wasn’t a reputable group, and there was no way she’d entertain their nonsense.

“Ding-dong~”

Now she was irritated. She stormed to the door, threw it open, and shouted, “Are you done yet? Keep ringing, and I’ll call the police!”

“Eh?! Does that mean Ye Ye isn’t happy to see us?” came a familiar voice.

Standing at the door were Qin Sirou and another girl, her friend Xu Xiaoxiao. Ling Ye hadn’t expected her to bring someone along, and the extra person could complicate her plans. Xu Xiaoxiao didn’t know about her and Qin Sirou’s situation, after all.

“Oh… it’s not like that! I just thought it was a creepy guy at the door, so… Anyway, come in!” Ling Ye stammered, embarrassed, as she opened the door wider for her two friends.

“Would you like something to drink?” she asked, looking over at the snacks on the table and offering them to her friends.

“Cola~”

“Orange juice~”

“There’s also ice cream,” Ling Ye reminded them.

“Ice cream!” they both cheered.

Ling Ye went to the fridge and brought out three portions of ice cream. She watched her friends chat happily, realizing her chance to speak privately with Qin Sirou would be slim with Xu Xiaoxiao there. She’d have to wait for a better moment.

“Oh, right! Would you two like to watch a movie or some anime?” Ling Ye suddenly remembered that her mom had downloaded a bunch of movies onto the computer, so it would be a perfect time to watch one.

“Yes, yes! I want to watch Magical Girl Xiao Ai!” Xu Xiaoxiao exclaimed eagerly.

“Sure!”

With both friends in agreement, Ling Ye booted up the computer. However, she realized she hadn’t asked her mom where she’d saved the movies. But it couldn’t be too hard to find—there were only a few folders.

After checking the C drive, then the D drive, she opened the E drive and stumbled upon a hidden folder by accident.

“Flower Kiss?” Ling Ye muttered, recognizing the name from her “study materials,” though she hadn’t gotten far enough to learn much about it.

“What’s that?” Qin Sirou asked, noticing her friend’s expression.

“Oh, uh, nothing. Let’s check this anime out!” Ling Ye replied nervously, playing the video file titled Flower Kiss.

“Eh?!”

Just then, Ling Ning entered the room and noticed Xu Xiaoxiao calling her friend Xu Qing “big sister.” Ling Ning was caught off guard; she hadn’t known Xu Qing had a younger sister. Looking closely at Xu Qing and Xu Xiaoxiao, she could see a faint resemblance between them.

Seeing Ling Ning’s surprised look, Xu Qing laughed and explained, “This is my little sister, Xu Xiaoxiao.”

“Oh?”

“I guess I never mentioned it. My parents divorced years ago. I live with my dad, and Xiaoxiao lives with my mom. Although my parents don’t get along, Xiaoxiao and I have always been close and stay in touch regularly,” Xu Qing explained.

“I see,” Ling Ning nodded, choosing not to pry further. Turning her attention to the little girls, she asked, “What were you watching?”

“N-nothing! Just Magical Girl Xiao Ai,” Ling Ye stammered nervously.

“Yeah, yeah, just Magical Girl Xiao Ai! Definitely not Flower Kiss or anything…” Xu Xiaoxiao quickly added, only to realize she’d said too much.

Qin Sirou discreetly pinched Xu Xiaoxiao’s arm, reminding her to stay quiet, and Xu Xiaoxiao hastily clapped a hand over her mouth, but it was too late.

“Flower Kiss? What kind of anime is that? Is it good?” Xu Qing asked, unfamiliar with the title. She watched anime occasionally but hadn’t heard of Flower Kiss.

“Oh, uh… it’s just a simple story about pure friendship between girls—nothing special…” Ling Ning replied smoothly, giving the girls a side-eye.

She’d recently discovered that in this world, Flower Kiss had been fully animated, and she’d eagerly downloaded it. She just hadn’t had time to watch it yet, so she was a bit shocked the girls had found it.

If Xu Qing found out that her little sister had watched something age-restricted on Ling Ning’s computer, she’d likely be furious. Ling Ning decided to help cover for them, planning to talk to the girls privately later.

Xu Xiaoxiao let out a sigh of relief, grateful for the cover. If her sister had caught her watching something like Flower Kiss, she’d probably get her face pinched until it was sore. Remembering her sister’s punishing pinches, Xiaoxiao shivered.

“Alright, you all keep watching Xiao Ai. I’ll go make lunch. Xu Qing, why don’t you stay for lunch as well?” Ling Ning said, emphasizing Xiao Ai to remind the girls to stay out of trouble.

“Sure! I’d love to help,” Xu Qing replied, smiling.

Author’s Note:

Hello, everyone! Actually, I’m not the real author of this account. I’m a high school girl from Itomori, Hida, Japan. One morning, I woke up to find I’d switched bodies with this lazy fish of an author. It seems he often uses this app to write his novels. Now, I just want to buy a plane ticket back to Japan, but I need 5678 yen to get there. Right now, this lazy fish has 5000 yen in his bank account and 30 yen in cash for the bullet train. Can you lend me 648 yen? I don’t know anything about Honkai Impact 3rd or Sacred Relics; I just want to meet him.
