Harry made his way toward Tonks, his cousin had never looked so out of her element, it's like seeing a turtle out of its shell or seeing a dragon wearing a dress, technically possible but incredibly unsettling sight to see.
"Nymphadora, You look so beautiful!" Harry greeted his cousin, even though he tried to hide it, a grin couldn't help but form on his face.
Tonks looks like she wants to strangle him but somehow controlled herself by gritting her teeth, then she suddenly pulled Harry in a forced hug.
"Laugh it up all you want but when this is over, I will make sure to pay you back for every little joke, all the snickering and stifled laughs, so enjoy this while you can because there will be hell to pay" Tonks whispered threateningly in his ear as he was locked in her hug.
Harry just smiled as Tonks finally let go "Cousin, you don't look so well, just relax it's just a ball, it's all going to be great" he said with a smirk.
Lord Black standing next to Tonk nodded "He is right Nymphadora, you look as pale as a ghost right now, get yourself together"
Hearing that Tonks looked even more embarrassed than before, seeing that his job is done, Harry tried to leave but someone grabbed his hand and held him in place.
Harry turned only to find that this hand belonged to none other than his grandmother, his grandmother then turned to Lord Black " Harry is right brother, Nymphadora does look nervous, maybe it is better if her first dance is with someone she is familiar with, and who better than Harry, he will make sure that everything goes perfectly, won't you Harry" his grandmother asked as she squeezed his hand.
Seeing that he is trapped Harry had no choice but to nod along, this is what he gets for teasing Tonks if he would have just kept his mouth shut none of this would have happened.
"Then it's settled, Harry shall lead the first dance" Lord Black announced.
This is how he found himself dancing for the rest of the ball, first it was just a simple dance with Tonks but then other girls kept asking to dance with him, as a scion of a noble house he couldn't deny their requests without dancing with them at least once. This is not how he wanted this night to go, Harry only wanted to stop by for a few minutes before making some excuse to flee this ball as fast as possible.
Now here he is, tired of all the dancing around and exhausted with all the forced small talk and socialising. Harry just wants to go home but it seems that fate is not on his side today so he chose to hide in a small corner of the great hall by using a subtle concealing charm that keeps people's attention away from him.
"Someone is popular with the ladies, it seems my godson really takes after me if he has to use magic just to hide from all those scary girls" Sirius's voice broke Harry out of his thoughts. Padfoot somehow broke past his charm and found Harry.
"This is impressive spell work Harry, very subtle and effective, I almost got fooled by it" Sirius praised as he took a close look at Harry's concealment charm.
Harry nods "in my younger years I used to favour the more powerful and flashy types of magic but as I grow older, I find myself appreciating the more subtle branches of magic"
Suddenly Sirius puts Harry in a headlock and proceeds to completely mess up his hair "in my younger years" he said with a scoff "Harry you are 12! Your younger years have barely started, now stop acting all grown up and mature, go have fun instead of sulking in a corner like a grumpy old man" he continued before letting go.
"I am not sulking!" Harry snapped back at him "and why are you here Padfoot? It is one thing for me to be alone but most of the people here are your friends or colleagues, so why are you hiding?"
"Who says I am hiding? I just came here to get a drink that's all" Sirius replied a little too quickly.
Then suddenly it clicked "So that's why Amelia Bones is here, from what I hear she is not one to attend social events like these. It's a bit odd don't you think Padfoot? that she is here when she has a reputation that says otherwise"
Sirius's eyes narrowed "I have no idea what you are trying to imply here, Harry"
Harry chuckled "I am not trying to imply anything but just so you know, Susan, Amelia's niece is in my year, nice girl likes to chat a lot. I believe she once mentioned just how much she likes having uncle Sirius over for breakfast, from what I hear, this is quite a regular occurrence in the Bones residence"
Under Harry's endless assault Sirius finally relented
"Ok fine I have been seeing Bones for two years now"
Harry used this opportunity to bonk Padfoot in the head "Don't you know not to shit where you eat Padfoot?"
Seeing the confusion on Sirius's face Harry explains "it's a muggle saying which basically means it is a bad idea to mix business with pleasure or in your case, it means only a complete idiot like you would date his own boss"
"Anyway there is no use going over what already happened, tell me what idiotic thing you did now? that you have to hide from your girlfriend who is also your boss"
