HP: Transmigrating as an Obscurial

Chapter 20: Umbra Spider

The test paper was riddled with fill-in-the-blank questions. For anyone who had properly previewed their material, it wouldn't have been too challenging — but Lee Jordan's panicked expression suggested otherwise.

Vizet pointed to one of the empty spaces on the paper. "In 1754, the Office for the Prohibition of the Abuse of Magic of the Ministry of Magic in England tasked Olabella Nutley with repairing the Colosseum, which had been accidentally destroyed."

Lee Jordan's jaw dropped. "Mate, are you Baruffio himself or something?!" He gave Vizet an exaggerated thumbs-up before hastily scribbling down the answer.

Vizet continued, his tone calm and steady. "The Patronus Charm — 'Expecto Patronum' — is described as 'an ancient and mysterious spell used to summon a magical Patronus.' It requires immense concentration and positive emotions to perform effectively."

The blank spaces on the preview paper began to fill, one after another. Cho Chang, who had been quietly observing while pretending to read The Origin of Quidditch, now looked visibly intrigued. Her amused smirk had given way to genuine surprise at how quickly and accurately Vizet rattled off the answers.

Woo, woo!

The piercing whistle of the Hogwarts Express signaled its departure, the train gradually gaining speed. Outside the window, parents waved vigorously, their goodbyes filled with a mix of pride and emotion. Among them were a few younger children chasing after the train, tears streaming down their faces as they tried to keep up.

As the train pulled further away, the younger children disappeared from view, left behind to wave at the growing distance. Inside, a newfound sense of freedom began to take hold. Some students immediately pulled out their wands to practice spells, while others broke into laughter and chatter. The compartments came alive with noise and excitement.

Having completed his homework, Lee Jordan was practically glowing with renewed energy. "Right, listen up!" he said, leaning forward with an air of importance. "When I was in Africa, I met loads of wizards — and I even learned wandless magic!"

Cho Chang raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. "Wandless magic? I've read that African wizards are especially skilled at it. What kind of spell is it?"

Lee waved his hand theatrically. "It's not just wandless magic; it's a whole different level. It's done through gestures! Let me show you."

He stood up and dramatically rolled up his sleeves, exposing his forearms, before clapping his hands in an elaborate series of movements. His palms made a sharp, crackling noise as he completed the sequence.

Nothing happened.

No flash of light, no magical spark — just the sound of awkward silence.

Cho Chang coughed politely, trying not to laugh. "Um... are you sure that's magic? What is it supposed to do?"

Lee scratched the back of his head, clearly flustered. "Well, uh... let me try again! Maybe I just need to get the rhythm right this time."

Determined, he yanked his sleeves up to his shoulders and prepared for a second attempt.

"Merlin's briefs! Have you been cursed by an African wizard?" an exaggerated voice rang out.

Fred Weasley burst into the compartment, grabbed Lee Jordan's shoulders, and began to shake him dramatically. "Snap out of it! We can't lose you! Who else will take care of the Umbra spider for us?"

"Hey, Vizet! Fancy seeing you here!" George Weasley appeared right behind his twin, waving cheerfully. His eyes flicked toward Cho Chang, and he smirked. "Oh, and here's the girl who distracted Cedric last season."

Cho Chang nodded politely, though her cheeks reddened slightly.

Lee Jordan rolled his eyes and shrugged off Fred's grip. "I'm perfectly fine! But if you keep this up, you'll knock the jar over, and the spider might escape."

Fred let out a mock gasp, clasping his hands in a dramatic prayer. "If that happens, we'll regret it for the rest of our lives!"

"Speaking of which," George added with a mischievous grin, "why don't you let us take a look at it? Come on, don't be stingy."

The group's attention shifted entirely to the jar on Lee Jordan's lap.

Cho Chang leaned back slightly, her wand at the ready, just in case the spider decided to phase through the glass and jump. Meanwhile, Fred, George, and Lee Jordan hovered closer, admiring the thick, bristly hairs on the spider's body.

Vizet remained silent, but his magical eyes scanned the spider like an X-ray. Most of its body appeared dull and lifeless, except for the venom glands and fangs, which glowed faintly green. Intrigued, Vizet focused on the glowing areas. For a brief moment, he thought he saw a faint, intricate symbol within the green light. But the image was too unclear to make out any specific details.

Without warning, George reached over, grabbed the jar, and popped it open.

"George!" Lee Jordan yelped, but it was too late.

The spider leapt out with alarming speed and landed squarely on Fred's outstretched hand. Before anyone could react, it sank its fangs into his skin, injecting venom laced with magic.

As the venom completely injected, the green light of spider's fangs and venom glands dimmed.

The room fell silent as Fred's hand began to swell, the bite mark inflating at an almost comical rate.

Cho Chang's eyes widened, and she instinctively pulled out her wand. "Why would you offer your hand like that?!" she exclaimed, her tone half disbelief, half scolding.

"Relax, Cho, it's just a little pinch," Fred replied through gritted teeth, though his wince betrayed the pain.

George, calm as ever, pulled a strange contraption from his pocket. It resembled a tiny suction cup with a glass vial attached to the top. He pressed it against the bite, and the device emitted a faint "gurgling" sound as it began to extract the venom.

Inside the vial, the glowing green liquid began to pool up.

Lee Jordan, not one to sit idly by, pulled a leaf from his pocket, chewed it quickly, and spat the pulp onto the wound. Wisps of green smoke rose from the bite as the salve worked its magic. A moment later, the swelling receded, leaving only smooth, unblemished skin.

Fred flexed his fingers and let out a dramatic sigh of relief. "Blimey, that stung! But it was worth it."

George held up the glass vial, swirling the venom inside. "Absolutely worth it. Say hello to the new key ingredient for Ton-Tongue Toffee!"

Fred grinned wickedly. "Now remember, George, it's your turn to get bitten next time."

Vizet let his magic eyes fade and turned to Lee Jordan with curiosity. "Wait a second... are those Nyalethi leaves?"

Lee Jordan's face lit up with pride. Puffing out his chest, he reached into his bag and pulled out a bundle of vibrant green leaves. "Good eye! Yep, Nyalethi leaves. Picked them up in Africa, and this whole bag was free!"

"No wonder the wound healed so quickly!" Fred exclaimed, looking impressed. "These things are legendary. We can't even afford a proper trip out of the country, let alone rare ingredients like these."

"Don't worry," George chimed in, giving Fred a reassuring pat on the back. "At the rate we're going, we'll have enough to take the whole family on holiday soon. Just wait and see."

George then turned to Vizet, eyeing him with newfound respect. "I didn't expect you'd recognize Nyalethi leaves on sight. That's impressive."

"This guy is a genius!" Lee Jordan threw an arm around Vizet's shoulders in a brotherly fashion, grinning from ear to ear. "Do you know how I finished my homework while waiting for you two? Go on, guess!"

Fred raised an eyebrow. "I'm betting you just scribbled something down at random. It's only Professor Flitwick's homework, after all, not McGonagall's transfiguration assignments. No big deal if you mess up."

Cho Chang coughed softly, her Ravenclaw pride clearly pricked. "Ahem. Some of us do care about homework, you know."

Lee Jordan ignored her and puffed up with pride. "Wrong, Fred. I didn't scribble anything. Vizet here helped me finish the entire thing. Flawlessly!"

"Uh-huh," George said skeptically, rubbing his chin. "What's the difference between that and blind luck?"

Lee Jordan gave a knowing smile. "You don't believe me? Fine, let's check my test paper. But I trust Vizet completely. And I don't need a reason to trust him!"

Fred and George, ever the men of action, immediately whipped out their own preview papers and began checking Lee's answers line by line.

As they worked, George pulled out his own copy of Standard Spells, Level 3 for cross-referencing. When he finished, he sat back, looking genuinely stunned.

"Merlin's Beard! It's all correct... and I actually misspelled a few things in mine," George muttered, shaking his head.

"Really?" Lee Jordan gloated, clearly enjoying himself. "If I hadn't actually cast the Mending Charm earlier, even I wouldn't have believed it."

Fred leaned back, his eyebrows raised in surprise. "A first-year student memorized Standard Spells, Level 3? That's mental"

George suddenly got up and approached Vizet in a serious tone, his playful demeanor replaced by an unusual level of sincerity. He clapped Vizet on the shoulder, his expression earnest. "Listen, mate. Are you sure you don't want to come to Gryffindor? We need talents like you. You'd fit right in."
