Chapter 335: Chicken.
Loki's hands instinctively moved to hold his head but as he did, he caught an item falling after it had bounced on his head. There was a sharp prick on his hands as Loki reflexively pulled back his hand but then his eyes caught a golden chatterbox that was slowly spinning in the air like a pinwheel on its way down.
Loki snatched the chatterbox from the air and looked at it weirdly.
'This…?'
'What is this?'
The chatterbox looked fragile because of how it was made with gold as thin as paper. Yet it flexed and held in Loki's hands without any signs of wear and tear.
There were four paper-thin gems of different colours embedded in each face of the chatterbox and when Loki opened it to look at its insides, he found it contained numbers, '1', '10', '50', '100', '500', '1000', '5000' and '10000' on the eight different faces inside.
'A chatterbox?'
Loki then opened the paper flaps the numbers were on and studied the sentences written in them.
And as he did he became shocked.
The flap for the number '1' corresponded to, "It took a god to break out of your illusion."
'2' was, "It took ten kings of angels to figure out how long it had been since they were trapped."
'3' was, "It took fifty angels to observe the world before they figured out it was a lie."
'4' was, "It took a hundred saints to remember they weren't born in this world in the first place."
'5' was, "It took five hundred demigods to know their memories were a lie."
'6' was, "It took a thousand mid-sequencers to find the exit so they could leave."
'7' was, "It took five thousand low-sequencers to be able to open the doors to their freedom."
'8' was, "It took ten thousand people to know what they were shown never existed in the first place."
'What is this monstrosity!?'
'Is it serious?'
'An illusion that requires help from a True God to break?'
'How!?'
'And I can simply cast it?'
'Calm down Loki! Obviously not~...there's definitely a corresponding price…'
'What's the price though?'
Loki looked around for any other clues that Rowena might've tossed at him, but he didn't find any. So he looked upwards and cursed in his mind while showing a smile outwardly.
'I'll have to test the item out later then…'
'It feels like I can use this to perform the ritual to advance to Sequence 5 Dream Stealer.'
'But even though this says it'll make an illusion, why doesn't it have any spiritual significance to me?'
'Is it not of the Error pathway then?'
After entering the Grey Fog with the item Loki performed a simple dream divination.
"The source of this item."
Repeating the sentence seven times, Loki slipped into sleep as his astral body roamed the spirit world.
Soon a scene began to play before him. It started with a pair of wrinkly hands working on the golden chatterbox that he had seen. The runes shimmered lightly as the wrinkly hands worked on it. The scene slowly panned and Loki became startled.
' 'Adam'! '
Although the man looked much younger than the current Dumbledore and had a completely different face, Loki easily recognised him by his shimmering blue eyes and the perpetual grandfatherly smile that was stuck to his face.
But that was when another young man entered the room, causing Loki to feel a little surprised once again.
'He seems familiar?'
Dumbledore spoke then, "Ah. Nick, are you done with the task I assigned to you?"
'Nick? Nicholas!!!? Seriously!!?'
"Yes, Master Merlin. I finished tracking down the suitable family for your resurrection." Nicholas said with a perfunctory bow.
'Merlin!!!???'
Dumbledore took on a long gaze as he looked at what seemed to be the future. He then pulled up his sleeves, shocking Loki.
Instead of veins throbbing under the skin, Loki saw thin branches occupying his circulatory system.
"It seems the time has come for me to shed this vessel and move into one that's better suited for my explorations."
"Only you'd be crazy enough to become a normal human after becoming a King Of Angels, Master. Do you still plan on continuing with the Untracked pathway?"
Dumbledore put on a kind smile and stood up without giving Nicolas a response. He waved his unique wand and caused his hat and robes to fly over to him.
The vision ended there, leaving Loki stumped.
'What?'
'Reincarnation?'
'Untracked pathway? Corruption?'
'What is this lore?'
'Nicholas was actually 'Adam's' student?'
'What a strange world I'm living in.'
In the Sefirah Castle Loki looked at the projection of the chatterbox and *sighed*.
'So this was made by 'Him'. It belongs to the Spectator Pathway then?'
'I guess that explains the abilities.'
'But I need to be careful in using it.'
'The best outcome would be 'Adam' never realising I have it. While the worst would be getting caught using it while advancing. I don't know what reaction 'Adam' will have when he sees me using it. If he does.'
'What a shame.'
'And I still don't know what the side effects of using this item are.'
'Guess I'll have to study the structure of this thing myself and figure out how it was made and what it does exactly.'
With his short-term goal set, Loki went through the motions of life over the next month or so. Nothing of note happened in the monthly tarot club gathering apart from Mr. Devil offering a bounty for the 'possessed' coin box.
It shocked both Hermione and Dominic but Mr. World accepted the mission. Loki had a plan to swindle Mr. Devil out of money and other valuables while accepting the mission, and he explained to Mr. Devil that he was busy for a while and would need a few months to get the mission done, which Mr. Devil accepted.
Hermione also finished digesting the Apprentice potion during this time and Loki asked her to wait for a few days so that he could gather the required materials for her advancement to Sequence 8 Trickmaster.
During the next month, Loki helped on several Beyonder missions from finding Mystical items to stopping evil cultists that were trying to do something strange like causing a deity's descent in Knockturn Alley using the miasma of depression and illness.
It wasn't anything big, just a few fools trying to do something they learned about in a random book that luckily graced their hands.
Colin Creevey was accepted into the Hogwarts Honest Mill team during this time and everyone was quite happy with the new addition of pictures to the newspaper. Daphne was happy because she didn't have to draw as many illustrations as before, and Hermione because she didn't have to write as much as before because the pictures took up a significant part of the page.
*Knock* *Knock*
"Come in." Hermione said as she looked at the door while no one else was currently in room 2-21.
Loki was studying the golden chatterbox, and Daphne was studying a few files Ethan had given her about a particularly troublesome Mystical Item they had to track for their next mission.
The door opened and Hermione became surprised at who was standing behind it, "Oh!? Professor McGonagall? To what do I owe you the pleasure?"
"Miss Granger you're to report to the Headmaster's office at Seven 'o'clock in the evening today."
Hermione's eyes widened as several thoughts passed through her head.
'Do they know I'm lying to them about my sequence?'
'No way, I didn't give them any hints about my powers.'
'Will they expel me from school? Kill me because I believe in an 'Evil' god?'
'No way right?!'
"Are you alright dear? I promise you it's nothing to do with your academic scores. Your help is needed for the upcoming second task for the Triwizard tournament." McGonagall explained seeing the stunned Hermione.
"Ah! I see. I will be there Professor."
"Thank you dear." McGonagall nodded and left.
Meanwhile, Loki looked at Cedric with an annoyed expression.
"How the hell are you so good at Dueling!?"
Cedric only smiled in response before silently flicking his wand which caused a strange red spell to buzz at the end of his wand.
"That goddamn spell again!! How did you even make a spell that turns everything it touches into chickens!??"
Cedric's smile grew wider as he responded-
"It would only be fair after you tortured us last week with that stupidly strange spell that manipulates shadows-"
"-Especially when you keep attacking the strangest spots!" Diego interrupted while shouting from the underside of a tree branch where he was currently glued in place due to shadows having wrapped all around him like a straitjacket.
"And especially because you keep tricking us by animating our clothes!" Zacharias exclaimed while he was trying his best to fight his own clothes which were forcing him to do cartwheels around the forest.
Loki's mood improved but when he looked at Cedric it fell again.
But then his face slowly morphed into a smirk as he proposed something strange-
"Ced, what do you say to this-? What if the person who loses today will have to become the other person's pet for a day!"
Cedric's eyes widened and Zacharias and Diego instantly shouted at once-
"No way Ced! Don't take it! You know he's got something up his sleeves-"
"-Are you going to chicken out? Now?" Loki interrupted with a taunt of his own causing Cedric to close his eyes and open them after a deep breath.
"Fine-"
"Avada Kedavra!" Loki shouted!
