Chapter 336: Second Task : A Game.
Walking to the tent parked outside the Quidditch field for champions, Loki entered with a little happy smile.
'Another new day, another new task.'
'I'm surprised Hagrid didn't call me for it.'
'Did the other champions also not get a forewarning about the upcoming task?'
'That'd make it very fair then.'
As soon as, the champions and their famous host, Ludo Bagman saw Loki enter the tent, everyone turned towards him.
Loki nodded at Harry, Fleur and Krum before standing in the semi-circle of champions around Ludo Bagman.
"Now that we have all the champions here, let us begin with the important information you must know to solve the current task."
Ludo cast a simple charm and showed everyone the illusory projection of an area they all recognised as the Quidditch pitch.
"This area is what the quidditch field outside this tent has been transformed into."
The quidditch field was divided into three parts of three long lanes intersecting in the middle. The lanes were joined to each other by small interconnecting alleys, while the rest of the area was filled with structures made of large stone blocks that seemed unbreakable.
"You will start on this end of the map.", Bagman said pointing at the south end. "And your enemies will be on the other end."
Everyone nodded so Bagman continued, "Your enemies will be revealed to you when the match starts, but remember this, the enemies hold someone very dear to you hostage. And your aim is to save them."
Everyone nodded again, even though they had a few questions that had left them in confusion.
"The four of you will be a team, that will play a game against the four members of the enemy team."
"First you have to fight the enemies to capture the point in the centre of the map. This will spawn a payload, a cart, which contains the key to save your loved ones who have been captured and are being used as hostages."
'Loved ones?' Loki thought with some confusion, 'Elane? How did they get Elane? No…it's probably someone else…Daph-?'
Even the other champions looked a little annoyed by the last statement.
"You will be graded according to how fast you rescue your loved ones along with another factor, but for that, each of you must choose one of the following roles to play in the rounds. You can be a tank, damage dealer, assassin, and a healer."
'What is this? OW or Paladins?'
"Is there any reason why we need to choose these roles?" Loki asked.
Ludo Bagman looked at Loki and smiled before responding, "Because of the clearly partial judging during the last round, the method to grade the students in this round has been modified.-"
"-The champions in this round will be graded based on how well they play their roles. For example, an Assassin will be graded based on how many kills he or she gets, and a damage dealer will be graded on how much damage they do to the enemy.-"
"-The Guardian will be graded on how well they protect their teammates, the capture point and the payload. While the Healer will depend on how well they help their teammates recover from confrontations."
"And you can not break your roles. For example, no matter what, a healer cannot attack, directly."
Everyone felt a little confused but Loki was the first to speak, "You mean to say that whoever chooses to be a healer will only have to heal their teammates? You mean they will only be allowed to use healing magic and potions?"
Ludo Bagman looked at Loki and then at everyone before nodding, "Yes but not exactly, you'll be able to use any spell on your teammates but not the enemy, so it's more a supporting role than anything else. And you will also be given potions to heal your injured teammates. The potions are made by Professor Snape and Madam Pomfrey, which should prove their efficacy."
Loki nodded and then spoke first, "I'll be the healer then. Since everyone else probably wouldn't trust some other champion to heal them because they might want to disrupt their ability to gain points, I fit this role the best since I don't care about this competition very much."
Everyone thought for a second before nodding.
Fleur and Krum spoke at once, "I will be ze Assasin." "I want to be a damage dealer."
Harry being the only one left behind nodded, "I'll be the tank."
Loki almost laughed and so did the others.
'Isn't he a little too scrawny to be a tank?'
'Well, whatever, I just need to keep healing everyone.'
"Alright since the roles have been decided I shall leave you to your devices to figure out a plan." Bagman was about to leave the tent to let the champions plan their strategies before he turned around and flicked his wand to send out small blue porcelain pearls.
"Those are Portkeys in case you need to be rescued. Keep them on you at all times." Bagman explained and before leaving, gave them one last piece of advice, "I wouldn't trust your teammates fully if I were you."
The last words left everyone a little confused and afraid, but they gave each other a quick glance before hiding their thoughts behind a facade of trust.
"Any ideas anyone?" Loki asked the question.
Seeing no one speak Krum stepped in, "I have a good idea. Why don't we all go on the offence? As long as we keep our enemies far away from the capture point 'arry can capture it for us?"
Fleur shook her head, "No. Zat will not work. We don't know if our enemies have special abilitiez that can be used to confuse us. I mean, zhere must be a reazon that we have the role of a tank."
"Why don't we do this?" Harry chimed in. "I can attract the attention of all our enemies while you guys flank them and kill them? Loki can keep healing me so that I can keep their attention on me."
Everyone fell silent after Harry's idea, thinking little, but Loki frowned, 'Who's going to protect me?'
'I mean, it's not like I doubt Harry won't be able to keep the attention of our enemies on him, but it feels quite risky for me to be left undefended.'
Just as Loki was about to explain his troubles Fleur and Krum spoke at the same time, "Zat is good." "Alright."
Now, Loki wasn't shy to speak up, but he held himself back, 'They want to let Harry agro the enemies and leave with the keys when the cart appears? So that they can save their champions before him and me?'
Harry seemed to have not caught onto their intentions so he naively nodded leaving Loki the only person who could stop this from happening, but he nodded along too.
'I'm half sure what they're doing is stupid.'
'But well what do I care, all I've to do is heal Harry for a little bit longer.'
Everyone went to their beds to take a short rest and Loki moved to find Madam Pomfrey once again.
"Is your coming to me before each match a good luck charm for you?" Madam Pomfrey asked as she went over the crate of what seemed like healing potions, checking them for any errors.
"No madam. I promise it isn't a good luck charm. It's more of a helping station."
"I not helping you this time you foolish boy."
"Even if I just want to ask how many times I can heal everyone? Is there any risk of overhealing them?"
Madam Pomfrey looked at Loki and spoke calmly, "Don't use these potions generously. The blue ones are for stamina, the red ones are for wounds. But both extract the price of healing from the body. So overusing them might cause more harm than good."
Loki nodded.
"Thank you for telling me that."
Madam Pomfrey smiled and ruffled Loki's hair before *sighing*, "Don't get confused by illusions."
"Huh?" Loki wanted to ask more about what he'd just heard but Madam Pomfrey was already back to checking on the potions and Ludo Bagaman announced, "And here are the champions! Welcome them with a huge round of applause!!!"
'Illusions?'
'Don't like the sound of that.'
