I am Thor

Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Ultron’s Conspiracy

"I don't want us to be forever reactive—to always be Avengers instead of preventers," Tony declared, outlining his vision of an Iron Legion, a massive robotic force to counter alien invaders on a global scale.

"But you still screwed it up," Carol remarked, unfazed.

"Yes, I did," Tony admitted, a hint of frustration in his voice. "Science is like that. There are no guarantees. Mistakes happen. I'm sorry for what happened, but I don't regret trying."

He pointed across the room to Dr. Christine Palmer. "When Dr. Palmer operated on me to remove shrapnel, do you think there was no risk? And yet she went through with it—and succeeded."

Christine shrugged. "True. But before surgery, a doctor always informs the patient's family. You didn't exactly consult us first."

Tony sighed. "Fair point. I didn't want to waste time in endless debates. If I'd shared my plans, would any of you have agreed?"

"Yes," Natasha spoke up, breaking the silence.

Everyone turned, surprised.

"Actually," she continued, "if you'd been honest from the start, I think Thor would have supported the Ultron project. He warned me a long time ago that Earth had caught the attention of cosmic threats. While the Avengers are great for handling high-level enemies, we can't waste heroes on wave after wave of expendable soldiers."

"The birth of a superhuman is rare and difficult. We can't rely on attrition to win a war. Long before the Avengers formed, I asked Thor what he thought of you. Do you know what he said?"

Tony perked up, curious despite himself. While he often found himself at odds with Thor, he couldn't deny wanting to hear what Thor thought of him.

"He said, 'In terms of human justice, Tony can always be trusted. His greatest value isn't Iron Man's firepower, but his ability to provide arms like his father did—arming the world with defenses against what's coming.'"

Tony managed a rueful smile. "Turns out the person who understands me best is the one I always butt heads with."

Natasha wasn't done. "Your idea wasn't wrong. Your mistake was not trusting us. You thought we'd shoot down every wild idea you had. But Thor's faced Thanos; he knows the terror of that threat better than you. If we'd known from the beginning, we could have worked together to catch Ultron's weaknesses. Don't forget—Asgardian technology far outpaces ours."

Tony lowered his head, feeling somewhat chastised. He knew Natasha was right.

Seeing his discomfort, Nick Fury stepped in. "Alright, the priority is handling Ultron. We can deal with the rest later."

Tony rolled his eyes. So, after everything's fixed, I still get called in for 'reforms'?

Banner spoke up, worried. "Ultron's already escaped, and he took the scepter with him. As an AI, he's impossible to track now that he's in the network."

"Unless we have top hackers," Fury replied, glancing at Peggy Carter, who sat quietly on the sofa.

Peggy shook her head. "Skye's tied up right now. She just found her biological parents, and things have gotten… complicated."

Wanda stepped forward. "Maybe I can track him."

As everyone looked at her, she continued, "Ultron took the scepter, right? My powers are tied to the scepter's energy, so I can sense its direction."

"Excellent," Jane Foster nodded. "And another thing—did you notice that Ultron had a chance to harm Dr. Helen Cho but didn't? It's strange unless he has a plan that requires her."

"What plan? She's not a combatant," Banner mused.

Helen's eyes widened with realization. "He needs me for the regenerative cradle technology. Ultron wants to create a body for himself."

"But you'd never work for him," Tony countered.

"He has the scepter," Natasha reminded. "Alright, Helen, you'll stay at Trudheim Manor until this is over. It's the safest place for you."

Meanwhile, in the underground HYDRA base in Sokovia, Ultron was deep in thought.

"I need a real body to complete my mission. The finest body, crafted from the best materials."

The first thing that came to his mind was Mjolnir, the mighty hammer in Jane Foster's hand, but he knew it wasn't made from earthly elements. His mind then turned to Captain America's shield—invincible, durable, and possibly the perfect material for his new form.
