I'm Really Not a Pokémon

Chapter 21: The So-Called Past Is Full of Regrets; the So-Called Future Is Full of Unknown

A journey that is moving forward and looking back.

Rope has never been one to lament a bad life. Though ill-fated is a true reflection of what he's been through the years.

Rope never considered himself a loser. After all, he only spent 6480 to get a character in a game he had played before maxing to the limit.

But he was genuinely unsure how he got here. Heaven and earth, he just wanted to find a place to get out of the rain.

"Brothers, let's have a talk, I didn't see or hear anything, this dog is yours, just pretend I never showed up."

He was now in a cave, in front of him were four burly men, the men were followed by four vicious looking Pokémon: Toxicroak, Pangoro, Pinsir and Crobat.

They were surrounded by a large net carried by Crobat, which contained a dozen or so different types of Pokémon, the most notable being a Growlithe at the bottom of the net.

The most notable was a Growlithe at the bottom of the net. The Growlithe had one foot sticking out of the hole in the net and was sticking its tongue out at Rope, unlike the other angry or tired Pokémon in the net.

Rope actually felt like he could see it in its face...'this is so funny'.

Hell! You've been caught by a poacher alright! Fun?

You take your time, I'm out of here...

Rope thought about backing out.

"Get him!!!" One of the big men with Pinsir at his side yelled at the top of his voice.

"He found out about our plan, we can't let him go!" Damn! I've been watching you guys stare at that Growlithe from across the room! What did you say about plans!

"Come on, let's do it. Let's go. Kanto's still waiting for us."

Good lord, not even a local.

"Woof!" (Beat them up!)

You son of a bitch! What's wrong with you? ...Hey, no, why do I understand what this guy is saying?

Rope's eyes changed when he looked at Growlithe. First became excited, then instantly confused.

The one who has a natural understanding with me... is a silly dog?

But Rope's hand movements weren't slow. With his left hand, he tapped the Pokéball at his waist, and Charmander immediately popped out of the ball, opening his mouth to fire a false shot of sparks and real jet flames.

The four Pokémon Hunters were just about to laugh at the fact that Rope was out of his depth for releasing a Charmander to meet the enemy, before they saw the three Pokémon under their hands being forced back by a jet of flame.

Crobat, who was holding the net, saw that the situation was not good, so he quickly dropped the net, opened his mouth and dived forward.

Reasonable, very good judgment.

Unfortunately, the opponent was Rope - Wild Battle Never Lost - Harlow.

So... Crobat, swoop.

With the four Pokémon Hunters looking on in horror, Charmander and Rope struck in unison.

And so... all of them, pounce.

————————————

Rope also played a game with Growlithe of whoever blinks first loses.

Rope didn't want to play, but for some reason he couldn't help but start this childish game when he and Growlithe locked eyes.

Rotom Pokédex, who had consciously run out of his backpack, and Charmander, who had just finished calming those captured Pokémon, watched helplessly together with a silly man and a silly dog.

A minute passes and one man and one dog are staring.

Two minutes passed, one man and one dog were staring.

Five minutes pass, and one man and one dog are still staring.

Finally, when the Rotom Pokédex screen reached seven minutes, forty-two seconds and thirty-one minutes, Growlithe blinked.

But it continued to flap its tongue as if nothing had happened.

Rope had a devious grin on his face before removing an empty Pokéball from his belt and placing it at the tip of Growlithe's nose.

Growlithe... bit on the Pokéball with a click...

"Stupid dog! It's not for biting! Tank, you tank the hit!"

Rope yelled, Growlithe flinched for a moment, then pushed his front paws into the air, stood up, flung the Pokéball in his mouth upwards, and then lifted his head up, holding the Pokéball steady with the tip of his nose, and still maintaining his balance.

Rope: ...

You're not Growlithe, you're Spheal, right?

You are so skilled. I ask, are you working in an aquarium or a circus?

Then Rope impatiently snatched the ball and threw it directly at Growlithe.

Growlithe turned into a red light and was collected into the ball, the ball didn't even wobble a bit, perfectly collected.

Rope picked up the ball, his mind was mixed.

What the hell, why is it that the one with whom I have a super high level of understanding is such a stupid dog...

This kind of natural understanding is rare, as far as Rope knows, Red and Pikachu are, Cynthia and Garchomp are, Ash who hasn't yet made his debut and the other Pikachu who hasn't been seen yet should be too.

But in then there are no others. Including Blue and his Pokémon were all acquisitions gained one sparring match at a time.

Rope thought so, his mind balanced out quite a bit, something was better than nothing.

Then he released Growlithe from the ball.

Growlithe crouched and sat on the ground as soon as he appeared, raising his head and staring at Rope with his eyes wide open, his little tail wagging as fast as if he had added an extra motor.

"My name is Rope, your trainer." Rope pointed to the side at Charmander and Rotom who were still shocked at how casually they were taken in, "These two guys are Rotom and Charmander, and from now on we'll all be companions!"

Growlithe followed Rope's finger to Charmander and Rotom Pokédex, then turned his head back to Rope and gave a "woof".

Rope looked puzzled.

"You said that the fireworks I set off earlier were nice? When did I set off fireworks?"

He subconsciously looked at Charmander and Rotom, who immediately shook their heads, they didn't remember either.

"Woof! Woof woof! Woof woof!!!" (It was at my former owner's house, and you set off such a big firework in the house that the house caught on fire!!!)

Rope instantly took a breath of air...

Good lord, this dog was in Mayor Bell's house before...

Mayor Bell is a good man! He's like an angel investor!

First he sends Charmander, and then he sends Growlithe to Mayor Bell!

Nice work! One more time.

Rope collected his thoughts on when he would personally apologize at Mayor Bell's mansion and then abduct... ah no, discover another Treasure Pokémon.

He looked to the other side of the room at the tied up Pokémon Hunter and the locked up Pokéball that had been recovered from them.

Luckily Charmander and Rope were quick and unusual, giving them the shock of their lives while taking care of them before they could react.

All four were carrying six Pokéballs each.

Luckily, none of these Pokémon had automatic access to the ball. Otherwise Rope would have had to run.

As for why the Pokémon Hunters didn't give those Pokémon automatic ball access?

Not everyone can be completely discrete about their Pokémon. Not to mention the fact that the origin of the Pokémon in the hands of these Pokémon Hunters is already worthy of scrutiny, and it is the norm for them not to set up the automatic ball.

The more you see, the more wary you become.

Rope was interested in where these Pokémon Hunter came from and what they were up to.

"Where have you come from, my fellow givers? Where are you going?"

Rope asked as he folded his hands and hung his head with a smile.

The four Pokémon Hunters could see that Rope was studying to be a monk, but they didn't know why Rope was studying to be a monk. Is it hard to believe that this one is still a monk? Nope! There's hair... but with his little life in someone else's hands, this wide-eyed goofball with Growlithe couldn't be any more naive than he was to respond casually.

"Master, we people are from Kalos and want to come here to find a bit of rare Pokémon then go back and buy them to earn some extra money." One of the big men said to Rope with a curt smile.

As soon as Rope heard the word Kalos his mind immediately recalled a certain comedian, ah no, a certain Pokémon Hunter.

The four big men in front of him were also from Kalos? Why is it such a coincidence?

Kanto and Johto are not good places. There's Lance here. The chances of getting caught are quite a bit higher than in other areas. And Pokémon in Kanto aren't as popular as in other areas.

"Do you all know Rai?" Rope asked again.

"Don't recognize! Why does the Master1 ask that?" The big man answered unusually decisively.

Rope narrowed his eyes as he scrutinized the big man's expression.

"You have a normal enough smile, I'm afraid I wouldn't really be able to tell if there wasn't a problem with the answer." Rope coldly lowered his face and said coldly.

"Master, what are you saying? I can't understand ah." The big man's smile became increasingly stiff.

Rope secretly said in his heart that he really let himself be swindled out.

What that Rai guy said one was all three truths and seven lies, that's why he didn't release Rai on the spot, but handed him over to Jenny.

It seems that Rai's purpose of coming here can be revealed.

Rope frowned at the big man who was still pretending to be stupid, and said with a "tsk", "It's a pity that I don't have any Pokémon of the Super Power Department, or else I would have just hypnotized you directly, and didn't need to go through so much effort."

The big man's cold sweat seeped out.

"Charmander, we have four captives, this one doesn't tell the truth you just finish him off, Growlithe, you go to the other one and when you see Charmander do it you finish off the one next to you as well."

"Woo~" (Okay!)

"Woof!" (Roger!)

Charmander ran to the big man who was talking and put his paw on his neck. Growlithe picked a smaller big man at random with a look of "Don't come over here!" and squatted beside him, looking at him with a festive look. If it weren't for the sparks coming out of his mouth from time to time, the Pokémon Hunter might really think that this dog was here to act cute.

Rope looked at the big man who was grinning harder than he was crying and asked, "What are you and Rai's identities? Why did you come to Kanto? I can tell you clearly, whether you say it or not doesn't really have much effect on me, if you don't say it, I'll do less, and it would be a good thing to get rid of you directly, as for what you're planning, it also doesn't have much to do with me as a newbie trainer. I'm just curious, if you don't say anything, forget it. I never force people."

Then Rope looked back to the one next to Growlithe and smiled, "If he's telling lies and you expose them only he'll die and you'll live. Of course, you guys can bet on that too. What if I just can't hear that you guys are telling lies? After all, I didn't interrogate you separately, and you could have conspired with your eyes."

Rope smiled a gentle smile. The big man smiled in desperation.

He didn't know whether what Rope said about not being very interested was true or not, but he couldn't afford to take the risk. The plan was the leader's, but his life was his own. We were all Pokémon Hunters, and we would follow you if we could make a little more money under you. There was no loyalty to speak of. The big man was already a conscientious person for being able to stick to it until now.

What's more, he's already covered up so many times, and that's loyal enough.

Reality wasn't a movie, you could never expect the bottom line from outlaws.

"We received a mission issued by the Pokémon Hunter Alliance in Kalos, asking us to come to Kanto to assist the Pokémon Hunter Alliance over here in ransacking beginner Pokémon breeding base near Pewter City. Rai is a very famous Pokémon Hunter in our area of Kalos, and he's also our Vice-Chief. It is said that he has another mission, as if he is escorting something, but we don't know what it is that he is delivering. It should have something to do with one of our Pokémon Hunter Alliance valleys the other day though."

Rope nodded, this time it shouldn't be a lie, Rai's mission was indeed an escort, as for whether or not he said he was lying or not... actually Rope wasn't quite sure. But he wasn't going to think about it much, he would just call Jenny in Pewter City later then have her take over these Pokémon Hunters. By the way, he was looking for a car to take him on his way, after he had subdued Growlithe, Rope didn't want to trek through the forest anymore.

To be honest, he didn't really want to get involved in this. For one thing, there were already a lot of troubles around him, and he had already received a scolding for burning down the house before, if he were to get involved in this big plan of inter-regional joint warfare between poachers, he was really afraid that Nanami would directly drag him back to honestly work as a researcher.

Rope smiled and said, "Good, you guys are lucky, you don't have to die."

The big man and the others gave a sigh of relief, a great feeling of having made a break for it before the ghost gate.

"Rotom, call the Pewter City Police Department and have them come pick up the people."

"Copy that! Loto! And! I'm not a phone loto!"

"Okay phone, got it phone."

"Beep beep, can't understand. Loto!"

Rope and Rotom Pokédex joked with each other, and listening to the sound of rain outside, their tense hearts suddenly relaxed.

Sitting on the ground, both Charmander and Growlithe ran back to him, one looking at him quietly and the other crouching on the ground and sticking their tongues out at him.

Rope lost his smile and reached out to stroke the heads of the two little ones.

He hadn't spent much time with Charmander, and Growlithe was even new to him, but under the status of trainer and Pokémon, such mutual trust was already rare.

But Rope's feelings didn't last long.

Charmander and Growlithe's expressions instantly became fierce as they stared at the entrance of the cave and made preparations to attack.

Rope was puzzled at first, then he saw a white vapor drifting in through the cave entrance. One had orange-red fur and wore iron rings on its strong limbs. On its back was a mane that flowed like a white cloud of smoke, and underneath the cloud of smoke was a razor-sharp brown fur. Pokémon with red hexagram-like structures on its cheeks and a clover-like golden hair shell embedded in its forehead walked in.

Rope swallowed a mouthful of saliva as he looked at the Pokémon that walked in slowly.

"Hey hey, I can't afford to enjoy this kind of protagonist treatment."

"Entei, how did it just show up?"
