Chapter 24: Reactions
Kalos League Headquarters
Diantha was quite comfortable in her office, drinking coffee and eating a small snack.
The soft sunlight poured down on the table in front of her, gilding the tea set and treats on the table while keeping the whole office at a comfortable temperature.
It had been a free time for her.
Team Flare was destroyed, and the Pokémon Hunters seemed to have disappeared after collectively attacking Arche Valley and making a big news. So she found a time a few days ago when she had no work or film contracts to go to Sinnoh to play with her bestie Cynthia.
She had been there for two days, and she couldn't help laughing when she thought of this. It was the first time she saw Cynthia act like a little woman when she was on the phone. Could Cynthia, who had always been strong but gentle, actually be attracted to a man? Every time she teased Cynthia, a sunset glow would fly on her cheeks.
Love is amazing, Diantha sighed as she watched the sunlight.
Whirling around, she gave a thoughtful look.
"Should I try to fall in love too?" Diantha asked herself softly.
But soon she shook her head, a helpless smile on her face.
She wasn't deliberately avoiding falling in love, but there really wasn't anyone around her who was interested. If there was, she wouldn't have resisted a sensational or mediocre relationship with that person.
Just as Diantha was rambling on, her cell phone rang and she picked it up only to find it was an unfamiliar number with no record.
Diantha frowned, this number was her private number, only a few of her friends knew this number, and generally speaking, there wouldn't be any nuisance or unfamiliar calls coming in.
Then the situation at hand was thought to be not very general.
She didn't think too much about it, regardless of the other party's intention, since she had called, she had to find out what the other party was up to.
"Hello, this is Diantha," Diantha spoke in her usual tone.
On the other end of the line was a male voice that struck Diantha as unfamiliar.
"Hello, Champion Diantha, my name is Rope Harlow, I am a Pokémon Professor, and I asked for this number from Cynthia because there is something very important I need to see you about."
Diantha listened to Rope's low, steady voice, and her first thought was, 'Is this Cynthia's little boyfriend?', and the second thought was 'This guy has a pretty good voice.'
"May I ask what this very important matter is?" There was an extra playfulness in Diantha's voice. Although she hadn't met with Rope, since the other party was so close to Cynthia, she couldn't be considered a complete stranger. And she was quite interested in the guy who had stolen her bestie's heart.
She couldn't help but put her coffee on the table, then rested her cheeks on one hand and asked with interest.
"I would like to know if Arche Valley in Kalos region was attacked by Pokémon Hunter? Did they lose the Prison Bottle, and do the people in Arche Valley know if the Prison Bottle is now in Kanto?"
Rope's trio of questions remained calm in tone. Or rather, he was prepared for the worst. It wasn't that he couldn't hear Diantha's slightly probing tone. He just didn't have time to care.
He'd contacted Mew earlier to talk to him about it. Mew this dead-pink cat was close to hugging the roots of the Tree of Beginning and crying, and Rope knew that Mew didn't think much of the resolution of the matter.
Hoopa's strength... was a little too high...
The more Rope learned, the more his teeth ached. All the Legendary Pokémon he knew so far, even if they were tied together, they might not be a match for Hoopa's Legendary Pokémon, not to mention that this guy could "fish" for helpers.
Headache...
Diantha was confused by Rope's question. She honestly didn't know what Rope's reason for asking these questions was, and what the Prison Bottle was.
"Uh, are these questions important?" Diantha asked back, rather puzzled.
At this moment, Rope, who was riding Entei and rushing towards Viridian City in the forest in the rain, felt exhausted.
Hoopa has been missing for too long, and his legend can only be spread in Arche Valley, the small place that guards Hoopa, and among the Legendary Pokémon that were beaten by Hoopa. Ordinary people have no idea how Hoopa fought against many other Legendary Pokémon.
"It's important that something even more dangerous than the revival of Xerneas and Yveltal may be happening in Kanto, and I need to get enough evidence in exchange for the League's support and autonomy. Otherwise Kanto alone may not be able to handle one region."
Rope's tone was full of helplessness. After the panic disappeared, Rope was left with helplessness and exhaustion. He now felt that the League had made too little preparation for the revival of Legendary Pokémon, and really underestimated the power of Legendary Pokémon. It was like some guys in the League who were not considered top-level, like Brandon and a certain Joy, had recovered Legendary Pokémon like Three Legendary Giants and Latias, Blaine also had a bond with Entei, and Red had defeated many Legendary Pokémon like the Three Legendary Beasts and Three Legendary Birds. In addition, most of the top Legendary Pokémon are secluded. So the League's perception of Legendary Pokémon is Pokémon like Entei.
It wasn't that Entei weren't strong... but you couldn't even stop a single Hoopa move with ten Entei tied together...
Diantha frowned slightly at Rope's words, she still had a hard time believing in this, and... the revival of the Xerneas and Yveltal that Rope was talking about... she didn't feel much of a connection to it... as it was just myth and legend. Lysandre tried to awaken those two back then, but was stopped in time, so that sort of thing is really not touching.
Legendary Pokémon revival? Is it dangerous?
Rope sensed the meaning behind Diantha's silence. He sighed lightly and said, "I was invited by Kanto's Legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh to assist them in coming together to solve this problem. But I am clear that this matter is definitely not a problem on Legendary Pokémon's side. Rather, it's a real crisis that we all have to face. I am a Pokémon Professor on the Legendary Pokémon side, so I also ask you to trust my expertise."
"No, not really, I'll help you inquire for you right away. Please also wait a moment." Diantha's tone was slightly more correct. She wasn't refusing to investigate, she was just pondering the pros and cons of the matter; after all, laboring over the matter didn't fit her philosophy. But since Rope had said so, she wouldn't go so far as to refuse such an investigation that was just a question.
Rope had a bitter smile on his face when he heard her serious tone, it looked like Diantha still wasn't taking it very seriously, and the only reason she was willing to make a stand on the matter was more than certainly because of her own seriousness and solemnity. Or rather... the status of a Professor.
The Entei beneath him couldn't help but feel a heaviness in his heart as he listened to Rope and Diantha's conversation. For the first time, he felt that humans were actually ignorant of the greatness of the gods to the extent that they were now.
Diantha immediately hung up the phone. Then she got up and walked over to her desk and dialed a phone number, telling the people under her hand to immediately inquire about matters related to Arche Valley and to report them to her in a timely manner.
After making the arrangements, Diantha nestled herself back into the couch with a puzzled frown. She could hear the gravity in Rope's tone, and her helplessness at not knowing much about the matter. But she didn't know just how big this thing was either. After all, they hadn't seen the power of Legendary Pokémon.
But as soon as she sat down, her cell phone rang again, she calmed down a bit, glanced at the word "Cynthia" on the caller ID and picked it up.
"Yo, Champion Cynthia will still call me, your little boyfriend just came over in a hurry too and his tone wasn't very nice." Diantha knew that Cynthia's caller couldn't be disconnected from Rope as soon as she guessed, so she also opened her mouth to tease.
Cynthia on the other side of the phone spoke very seriously indeed, "Diantha, you must take this matter seriously. This matter is not as easy as you think."
Diantha's brows furrowed at once, if she still had some doubts about Rope's words, then he would not doubt what Cynthia said at all. After all, she had been friends with Cynthia for many years and knew full well that Cynthia wouldn't be unreliable in such matters.
Cynthia's voice came from the phone, ''Rope's judgment is fine. I've asked Grandma before. You know, I'm a mythology scholar too."
She paused for a moment, switching to a serious tone.
"Diantha, you may be really underestimating the impact a top-level Legendary Pokémon revival would have. I saw the fight between Palkia and Dialga with my own eyes. It wasn't anything too loud, and it was obviously just a sparring match that didn't get real. But I was also dragged defenseless into the space-time crevice, and I'm afraid that if I settle things any later, I'll be annihilated in space-time along with the whole of Alamos Town."
Diantha fell into silence as she listened to Cynthia's words. There were a lot of things that you just couldn't feel without seeing or experiencing them. However, if Cynthia, who was even more capable than her, did not have the ability to fight back, then who was she to underestimate these so-called gods?
Diantha was silent for a long time.
"...I'll look into it, and if I need to I'll call in a report to Kanto with League to help." Diantha said seriously in a tone that took the matter seriously.
"Thank you, Diantha!" said Cynthia with this joy in her voice.
"Don't try to muddle through so easily! I want you and Rope to buy me a big dinner!"
"That's no problem, I'll do the honors!"
...
Soon Arche Valley's related investigation came up with an answer.
"Arche Valley confirmed the loss of the Prison Bottle after a self-investigation, and they're said to be saying crazy things like 'it's going to be a disaster'. And they say that the pot is indeed now in the direction of Kanto. Arche Valley's contact info you'll want to take down..."
Listening to Diantha's cold voice on the receiver, Rope was sort of relieved to have strong evidence.
"Thank you, Ms. Diantha." Rope wrote down the string of numbers Diantha quoted and then said with a smile.
"Don't be so polite, if you really want to thank me, treat me to a big dinner when I get to Kanto!" Diantha's tone carried the petulance of a teenage girl.
Rope smiled and said, "No problem, it's my honor to treat a big star to dinner!"
On the other end of the phone, came Diantha's mutter, "You really don't dare to call yourself a star in front of you, the bright star of the research world."
Then Diantha hung up the phone.
Rope smiled and shook his head, finally settling a party.
He glanced at Rai who was holding his head under Entei's pressure and looking at him with an expression of "Big brother, why are you here again", and said, "Tell me everything you know, I will get Ms. Nachi from Golden City to hypnotize you. you to Granny Agatha, please believe in the torturing tactics of a Ghost System Elite Four. You'll definitely be worse than dead."
Rai subconsciously straightened his back before being bent over by Entei's glare.
"Big brother, I promise, I know what I'm talking about. We have transaction records, trust me, I'm an honest seller!"
