Chapter 61: Chapter 23: the broken piece

Both girls stood in the mortal realm, taking a moment to catch their breath and survey their surroundings. Zyqnax looked around, her senses on high alert, wary of any potential dangers. "We need to keep moving," she said, her voice low. "We don't know who or what could be after us now that we've escaped."

They found themselves in the mist-shrouded mountains, a place of both beauty and mystery. The misty air surrounded them, cloaking the surroundings in a veil of secrecy.

Zyqnax scanned the area, her eyes sharp as she searched the surroundings for any signs of danger. "This place is isolated," she observed, her voice hushed. "We'll need to be careful. We don't know what lurks in the mist."

Zyqnax's senses caught a familiar aura as a woman emerged from the mist, calling out endearingly, "Big sister." The voice brought a mix of surprise and curiosity to Zyqnax's expression as she tried to discern who was addressing her.

As the wind cleared, the woman was revealed to be Kiana, a disciple of Kanji, just like Zyqnax. Kiana was a Dragonoid, a being possessing the powers and characteristics of dragons.

Zyqnax's eyes widened in surprise, recognizing her fellow disciple. "Kiana," she exclaimed, her voice filled with a mix of shock and pleasure.

Estelle, standing beside Zyqnax, felt the presence of the Celestial Golden Dragon, the aura of a powerful being radiating from Kiana. Her eyes widened in awe and astonishment, as she couldn't believe the power emanated by Kiana, a disciple of Kanji.

Zyqnax quickly explained Kiana's identity to Estelle, sharing how they both were disciples of Kanji and had learned under his guidance. Estelle listened intently, her curiosity piqued by the mention of the teacher.

Zyqnax, her voice filled with curiosity and concern, asked Kiana, "Why are you here? Is everything okay?" Her eyes searched Kiana's face for any signs of trouble or danger.

Kiana, noticing Zyqnax's rushed demeanor, inquired, "Why are you in such a hurry? Is something wrong?" In response, Kiana explained that she had returned to gather resources from the vicinity and was on her way back to Zhīshān Mountain, her home.

Zyqnax, understanding the situation, took a moment to calm her own anxiousness. She shared a look with Estelle, silently communicating their trust in Kiana, as they both knew of her connection to Kanji.

Zyqnax's expression turned grave as she spoke, her voice filled with a sense of urgency. "I need to warn you, Master Kanji is in danger," she began. "The Omni King is after him." The weight of the situation was evident in her eyes, the gravity of the threat hanging heavily in the air.

Kiana's eyes widened in shock at the revelation, her worry for her master's safety growing. "The Omni King? That's serious," she said, her voice betraying a hint of fear. "We need to protect Master Kanji."

Kiana, her mind working quickly, proposed an idea to Zyqnax. "Why don't we call Zero? He might be able to teleport us or at least tell us more about where Master Kanji is," she suggested. The mention of Zero, presumably someone with unique abilities, gave them a glimmer of hope in the midst of the dire situation.

Zyqnax pondered the suggestion, considering the possibilities. "That's a good idea," she mused, her tone now more optimistic. "Zero might indeed be able to help us locate or reach Master Kanji more easily." She looked at Kiana, a determination in her eyes. "Let's give it a try."

Kiana swiftly utilized her radiant detect skill and a magical link to contact Zero, who was busy taking care of the temple within the confines of Zhīshān Mountain. As soon as the connection was established, Zero acknowledged Kiana's call, his voice tinged with surprise.

Kiana quickly conveyed the urgent situation to Zero, informing him about the threat posed by the Omni King and Master Kanji's need for their immediate assistance. Zero, realizing the gravity of the situation, dropped whatever he was doing and focused his full attention on the conversation, his ears perked and ready to assist.

Kiana, her tone filled with urgency and concern, spoke to Zero, her words coming in a rapid-fire manner, "We need your help, Zero. The Omni King is after Master Kanji, and we need to find him as soon as possible. Can you teleport us to where he is, or at least give us his location? We have to protect him."

Zero, with a calm but determined voice, responded to Kiana's plea. "Fear not, I can sense your location, and you're not far from where Master Kanji is," he assured them. "He's in the Mist Mountain area, and I can assist you in locating him. However, be cautious and on guard. The presence of the Omni King in such a remote place is not a good sign."

A mixture of relief and determination crossed Zyqnax's face, knowing that they were close to finding Master Kanji. "Thank you, Zero," she said gratefully. "We'll proceed to the Mist Mountain area and locate Master Kanji as soon as possible. We'll remain vigilant and ready for any trouble."

As Zyqnax and Kiana spoke to Zero, Estelle's absence became apparent. She was no longer in the same spot where they had been standing just moments ago. A sense of bewilderment washed over Zyqnax, and she looked around, scanning the area for any sign of Estelle.

"Where's Estelle?" Zyqnax asked, a tinge of concern in her voice.

Estelle, now freed from her curse, found herself approaching Kanji who was resting in a remote area of the Mist Mountain. The curse that once weighed heavily upon her had been lifted, allowing her to approach Kanji in her awakened state. The air around them seemed to crackle with a sense of significance, as if the meeting was fated.

Kanji, his eyes opening to see Estelle standing before him, spoke with a calm yet observant gaze, "Ah, you've woken up," he murmured, his voice low. His eyes scrutinized her, taking in the change that had come over her since the lifting of her curse. He sat up a little straighter, his attention fully on her.

Estelle, her determination evident in her eyes, issued a challenge to Kanji "I want to have a duel with you," she stated firmly. Her tone was resolute, her body tense with anticipation. The desire for a face-to-face encounter seemed to energize her, as if the very thought of sparring with Kanji ignited a fire within her spirit.

Kanji, his expression devoid of emotion, stepped closer to Estelle and with a swift, almost nonchalant motion, sent her flying back against the barrier with a powerful blow. The impact was forceful, causing the barrier to shatter upon contact. The surrounding area shuddered as the barrier's integrity was shattered, the aftermath of Kanji's attack leaving no doubt as to his strength and skill.

Despite the force of Kanji's attack, Estelle remained unharmed. The mysterious power of her "Non-existent Body" skill came into play, rendering her immune to damage. The barrier behind her lay in ruins, shattered by the power of Kanji's blow, but Estelle stood as if untouched, her body and spirit unbroken.

Estelle's face displayed a sly smirk as she spoke the word "Return," activating her ability. In a twist of fate, the attack Kanji had just unleashed against her was now sent flying back at him, aimed to return the favor.

The force of the attack struck Kanji, mirroring the impact he had just inflicted upon her. The tables were turned as he now found himself feeling the effects of his own power.

Kanji, witnessing Estelle's skill and the returning force of his own attack, couldn't help but wonder about her origins. He posed a question, his eyes studying her.

"Are you someone of Angela?" he asked, his voice almost solemn.

The mention of Angela, the goddess of angels, raised questions in Kanji's mind. The reference to her was known to him, and he wondered if Estelle shared a connection with the legendary, bloodthirsty figure.

Estelle, her voice carrying a mixture of strength and determination, responded to Kanji's question about her connection with Angela.

"No," she said firmly, her stare unflinching. "I am not connected to Angela." Her words, while brief, held a certain finality, as if she was resolute about her identity and her lack of affiliation with the goddess of angels.

Kanji, his voice taking on a stern undertone, spoke to Estelle, explaining the reason for his association of her with angels "I see all angels as one because they have wings."

Without further hesitation, Kanji violently tore off both Estelle's wings in a swift, brutal motion. The action was sudden and unexpected, leaving Estelle momentarily stunned and disoriented.

Estelle, still taken aback by the unexpected loss of her wings, tried to activate her "Return" ability. However, to her surprise and disappointment, she found that Kanji hadn't spread his own wings, rendering the technique useless. Frustration and anger flashed across her face as she realized that she had no way to retaliate against his unexpected attack.

Zyqnax and Kiana, their footsteps echoing through the silence, reached the northern path of Mist Mountain. Their eyes widened with horror as they caught sight of Kanji holding Estelle's severed head in his hands. The scene was one of shock and disbelief as Zyqnax's eyes widened in betrayal, her own master standing before them, holding her comrade's lifeless head.

Their eyes widened in horror as they came upon the scene, seeing Estelle's severed head in Kanji's grasp.

Zyqnax's expression filled with disbelief and betrayal, her shock evident. The image of her master, someone she had trusted, holding the head of a fellow friend, was a blow that shook her to her very core.

Kanji's gaze shifted to Zyqnax, surprise flickering in his eyes as he saw her approach. He spoke, his tone slightly softened, "You're here."

Before Zyqnax could respond, Kanji posed a question, his voice laced with comfort. "How are you?" he inquired, his gaze fixed on her.

Zyqnax stood there, the mixture of shock and confusion etched across her face. Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, still reeling from the sight of Kanji holding Estelle's severed head. The question about her well-being seemed out of place, yet she tried her best to compose herself and respond.

"I... I don't know what to say," she managed to stutter out, her voice shaking with anger and disbelief. "How could you...?" Her words trailed off, unable to form a coherent sentence.

Zyqnax, overwhelmed by a range of emotions, hurled her blade at Kanji in a moment of blind anger. She dashed towards him, aiming her sword with intent to inflict damage. However, as her blade reached its arc, Kanji skillfully intercepted it, grabbing hold of the sword in the middle, effectively stopping her attack.

Amidst the chaos, Kanji spoke to Zyqnax, his tone calm and questioning. "Why are you doing this?" he asked, observing the tears streaming down her face.

Zyqnax, her emotions still raw and overwhelming, found her attack halted by Kanji's quick reflexes. As he held her sword in the middle, her anger momentarily frozen. Kanji's question hung in the air, his voice laced with a hint of sadness and understanding.

Zyqnax, tears welling up in her eyes, spoke with a mixture of hurt and frustration. "You killed Estelle," she began, her voice quivering. "She was my friend, and you... you took her from me."

Kanji's expression reflected a mixture of surprise and contemplation as he heard Zyqnax's words about Estelle. Before he could respond, Kiana intervened, trying to stop Zyqnax.

Kiana, her voice filled with urgency, spoke up, trying to diffuse the situation. "Please, calm down," she implored, her tone gentle yet firm. "There must be a reason for all of this."

As the situation unfolded, Zero appeared behind Kanji, his presence adding an additional layer of tension to the already charged atmosphere.

Zero, his voice formal and respectful, addressed Kanji, seeking instructions. "Master," he spoke, acknowledging Kanji's authority, "Orders?"

Kanji, with a hint of authority in his voice, issued an order to Zero. "Teleport Zyqnax and Kiana away," he commanded, his tone firm. "An army of the Omni King's drones is preparing to spawn. They must be moved to a safe location."

Kanji's gaze fixated on Zyqnax, his expression stern yet softened by a hint of understanding. With a calm yet firm tone, he spoke to her.

"We will talk later," Kanji stated, his words carrying a sense of finality. It was a promise, a chance for both of them to have a conversation in a less chaotic setting.

Zyqnax, her emotions still a tangled mix of anger and sadness, heard Kanji's words. She was torn between the urge to confront him right there and then and the knowledge that they needed to put the current situation aside for the time being.

With a heavy heart, she looks at him, her voice barely a whisper. "Later," she repeated, her agreement laced with a mix of anticipation and trepidation.
