Chapter 63: Chapter 25: Sworn rival

Over the course of a century, the path down the mountain where the temple resided transformed into a quaint village. Kanji, in his wisdom, permitted a select few humans to settle there and cultivate the land. The peaceful sight of villagers tending to their crops and leading simple lives stood in stark contrast to the events that had unfolded.

A wanderer, hailing from the Guāng Mountain Buddha temple and named Jokedone, arrived at the Zhīshān Mountain temple one day. His presence carried an air of intrigue and curiosity, as he was a stranger unfamiliar to the villagers of the region.

Jokedone, a cheerful soul, delighted the village children with his playful antics. His laughter and contagious joy spread through the village, bringing smiles to the faces of those witnessing his antics.

In his cheerful demeanor, Jokedone approached a little girl and posed a question, his voice filled with curiosity. "Hey, little one," he began. "Who would you say is the strongest person on this Zhīshān Mountain?"

The little girl, caught off guard by the unexpected question, pondered for a moment. Her face scrunched up in thought before she finally responded, her voice filled with confidence. "Master Kanji," she replied. "He's the strongest here on this mountain!"

Jokedone chuckled, amused by the little girl's response. "Kanji, huh?" he said, his voice filled with intrigue. "You say he's the strongest here on this mountain. I'll have to meet this person and see for myself."

The wanderer, Jokedone, strolled by the riverside, a smile on his face as he happened upon Kanji. His eyes widened with recognition and he approached Kanji, his footsteps light and unhurried.

"Greetings," Jokedone called out, his tone friendly and respectful. "You must be the one they call Master Kanji."

Kanji, his eyes opening, looked at Jokedone with a mixture of curiosity and guardedness. He regarded the stranger before him, his tone tinged with caution.

"Who are you?" Kanji asked, his voice cool and steady.

Jokedone responded to Kanji's question with a warm smile. "Ah, forgive my manners," he said, his voice filled with humble respect. "I am Jokedone. I come from the Guāng Moutain Buddha temple."

As Jokedone spoke, his eyes suddenly glowed golden, surprising Kanji. Upon seeing this, his tone shifted, and he asked Jokedone directly, "You're not just any ordinary person, are you? You're from the Naein Clan, aren't you?"

Kanji, rising to his feet, responded to Jokedone's question with a firmness in his voice. "You're correct," he said, a hint of no emotions in his tone. "But i no longer consider myself part of the Naein Clan. Since i have long left that identity behind."

With a smirk on his face, Jokedone asked Kanji, his tone filled with intrigue. "Which is it?" he inquired. "Did you choose to no longer identify as a member of the Naein Clan, or were you disowned by your own kinsmen?"

Kanji, his expression stoic, responded to Jokedone's question, his voice laced with a sense of resignation. "Both," he stated flatly. "It is both. I chose to distance myself from the Naein Clan, and I was also disowned by them in turn."

Kanji, his movements swift and precise, casually dodged Jokedone's brute punch, his neck moving an inch as he avoided the attack. In response, he questioned Jokedone, his voice steady and calm.

"You possess the Golden Buddha Martial Art style," Kanji observed, his eyes narrowing. "Who trained you? Are you a disciple of Buddha?"

Jokedone, his smile widening, revealed his true identity. "My real name is Kaiwanxiao," he proclaimed. "I am the first disciple of Buddha, and I am currently on a journey to find the second and last disciple of Buddha."

Kanji, his smirk still present, retorted to Kaiwanxiao's statement, questioning his purpose for the journey. "You're probably on a journey to test yourself," he said, his voice laced with a mix of doubt and respect. Without a moment's hesitation, he threw a powerful brute kick at Kaiwanxiao's chin.

Kaiwanxiao, his eyes narrowing, swiftly dodged the kick, his movements agile and calculated. He replied with a hint of challenge in his voice, "Hmph, you think you can test me that easily?"

Kanji, his expression aloof, responded to Kaiwanxiao's statement. "Nonsense," he countered. "You are the one who approached me and initiated this spar. I am merely accepting your challenge."

With a smirk on his face, Kaiwanxiao invoked the "Smash" technique, causing his veins to visibly pop red as he surged forward in a powerful dash. His body seemed to gain an extra surge of potency, as he moved with breathtaking speed towards Kanji.

Kaiwanxiao, moving with unparalleled force, caused destruction in his path, but his focus was solely on Kanji. However, every time he attacked, Kanji managed to dodge effortlessly. In response, Kanji activated his own Enhancement technique, channeling "Dark Aura" to bolster his speed and power.

Kaiwanxiao, his smirk intact, began charging his "Smash" technique once again. He spoke to Kanji, his voice determined yet respectful. "I want to test your skill and my own," he declared. "Let us fight one on one, comparing our skills and determining who is stronger."

Kanji, accepting Kaiwanxiao's challenge, responded with his "Space Authority" technique's second skill "Universal Palm Strike" skill. His palm strike carried an incredible force, manipulating gravity to enhance the impact and reach of the attack.

Kaiwanxiao, his determination unfaltering, dashed towards Kanji at an equally rapid pace and with an equivalent level of force. The impact of their collision was so powerful that it caused tremors throughout the mountain and stirred the very air around them.

Suddenly, Zero appeared, effortlessly deploying a barrier to intervene and protect Kanji from the forceful onslaught. As the barrier formed, Zero addressed Kaiwanxiao, his voice stern. "Who are you, and why are you attacking Master Kanji?"

Kaiwanxiao, his attack interrupted, turned his attention to Zero, his expression unchanged. "I am Kaiwanxiao," he replied, his tone steady. "And I am merely testing Your Kanji's skill in a friendly spar."

Kanji, keeping his composure, issued an order to Zero. "Zero, turn off the barrier," he commanded, his voice steady.

Zero, obediently responding to Kanji's directive, lowered the barrier that had been shielding them. He stood at the ready, watching the situation unfold with a mixture of curiosity and wariness.

As Kanji approached Kaiwanxiao, he inquired about his rank, his voice calm yet authoritative. "What is your rank?" he asked, his gaze fixed on the martial artist.

Kaiwanxiao, his smile widened, replied with exuberance and joy, his tone filled with pride. "I am an LR-ranked martial artist," he said. "I am the master of the Guāng Moutain Buddha Temple."

Kanji, seemingly unfazed by Kaiwanxiao's announcement, warned him not to challenge him again. He then turned to walk away, but Kaiwanxiao, with remarkable speed, dashed ahead and proclaimed himself as Kanji's sworn rival.

In a matter-of-fact tone, Kanji stated, "I have no interest in having a sworn rival."

Despite Kaiwanxiao's declaration of a rivalry, Kanji's response was clear and unwavering. He expressed his lack of interest in the idea, his voice steady and dismissive.

Kaiwanxiao, his smirk growing wider, retorted with a provocative declaration. "A man like yourself will never understand me," he asserted. "You are just an inexperienced lad."

Zero, his expression hardening, stepped forward, taking offense on Kanji's behalf. He confronted Kaiwanxiao and asked with an authoritative tone, "Are you calling Master Kanji a virgin?"

Kaiwanxiao, unperturbed by Zero's intervention, replied with a hint of challenge. "That's exactly what I'm saying," he affirmed, his voice holding a mixture of teasing and audacity.

Kanji, a slight smile appearing on his face, addressed Kaiwanxiao with a calm and inviting tone. "You're free to visit this mountain whenever you like," he stated. "Feel at ease to come and go as you wish."

Kaiwanxiao, taken aback by Kanji's response, looked momentarily surprised but soon recovered his composure. He smirked and offered a nod of approval. "Very well, I'll take you up on that," he replied, his tone slightly less arrogant.

Kaiwanxiao, his smirk reappearing, made a confident assertion. "Next time we meet, I won't hold back," he declared, his voice tinged with a hint of challenge. "I'm going to throw a punch at you."

After that, Kanji and Zero bid farewell, with Kanji expressing his anticipation for the development of this new sworn rivalry. While walking away, Kanji spoke with a trace of amusement, "I'll be looking forward to this new rivalry."
