Chapter 15: A New Home

Now as they neared the city Rebekah rested against Marcus as she daydreamed of the two of them traveling the world seeing wonderful things and doing amazing things with each other. As fo Marcus well he just stared blankly into the night sky wondering what the next step was for him. All he really knew of was the forge and metal mending, what was there for him in the city?

Just then the wagon came to a slowly stop as James had arrived at the little bookstore that was owned and ran by Joy's grandfather. They would now be living above the bookstore which would make Joy happy because then her brother could leave their grandfather alone. As for Rebekah she'll be happy to be around all of those books again. Then there was Marcus who really didn't know what to think other then that something seemed off, thus leading to Marcus beginning to sniff the air causing his eyes to go wide as the sent of blood filled the air.

Marcus leaped from the wagon causing both Joy and Rebekah to be jerked awake as well as startling James who'd gotten down from his seat and was just about to circle the back of the wagon. They watched as Marcus ran into the bookshop which only caused them begin to be horror struck at what could have possibly alerted him that is until James also picked up the scent of blood and drew his sword and went into the bookstore as well.

Once inside the bookstore James found the elderly black squirrel, Ben bleeding from both his chest and his head while Marcus knelt beside him with a paw held out over him. Both his eyes and paw were glowing a light green as the wounds started to close up and Old Ben's heart rate slowed back down.

"Who are you and what have you done to my grandfather?" came a furious but authoritative voice as a well dressed black squirrel walked up to them and drew a small one handed crossbow and aimed it at James.

"We didn't do anything. We only just got here. In fact we're friends of your grandfather." replied Jame defensively.

"It's true they're friends of mine and grandpa's now put the crossbow down brother." called Joy as her and Rebekah came into the room and looked at the male squirrel.

"Truth be sough. Truth be told. In this room no lie behold." muttered Marcus once all of Old Ben's wounds where healed yet he eyes were still glowing except they were glowing blue instead of green. A light blue pulse also filled the room with the conclusion of the sentence.

"What the hell did that little freak just say!" snapped Joy's brother..

"My son is not a freak! He also just saved your grandfather's life with the use of magic he must've also cast some sort of spell." replied James puzzled, "Wait, why did I just confess that?"

"My. Krystar it seems Marcus cast a truth spell. Hence you not being able to control you confessing that he was a magic user nor could my Uncle John prevent himself from say how he feels about Marcus." replied Rebekah before looking up at her mother before adding, "To know for sure we'd have to perform a test question that would be hard to fake an honest answer for."

"Like what? Why your uncle was here anyways?" asked Rebekah.

"No that could easily be avoided? The question would have to call for lots of detail and a specific answer that only could have one true answer." replied Rebekah with a smile before asking, "Mother what is your most honest and detailed opinion of Mr. Krystar?"

"I think he's a very attractive fox and I wish that he wasn't married so that I could possible convince him to mate with me just once." replied Joy before quickly covering her mouth with her paws before adding, "I can't believe I just said that. Why did I just say that?"

"Because we are under a truth spell that wont allow us to ever tell a lie until Marcus releases the spell. So I guess we best choose our questions carefully." replied Rebekah with a smile as she went and knelt down next to Marcs and her great-grandfather to allow the adults to carefully discuss their next moves.

"Mr. Krystar..." started Joy only to be cut off by James raising a paw and smiling.

"If I was to be honest the feelings are mutual though I am also very loyal to my wife and wish to only look at you as a friend. With that said we need to focus on who attacked your grandfather and why?" explained James with a slight blush.

"Hay don't look at me I just came down to see why he'd not come up for dinner yet." exclaimed John with his paws in the air as both Joy and James had turned to face him.

"Why are you even here?" asked Joy, "You've always hated this place, these old books and grandpa."

"That's not true sis. Yes I've hated what this place has done to our family but I've always loved grandpa and the stories he'd tell. I was just always hard on him because I wanted him to get ride of this old place." confessed John.

"Then who could've done this?" asked James as he looked around and for the first time notice nothing was out of place nor had any of the many valuables taken.

"It was the Drakary." moaned Old Ben from the floor thus startling all five of them. Yes even Marcus was startled thus causing him to dropped the truth spell as his eyes returned to their normal all white. Who or what were the Drakary but whoever they were just the mention of their name sent an erie chill down all of their spins.

"Who are the Drakary?" asked James who was the first to gain the courage to speak let alone move as he sheathed his sword.
