Last Paladin

Chapter 16: The Drakary

"The Drakary are a ancient order of dark warriors." started to explain Old Ben as Marcus and Rebekah helped him sit up and lean against a bookshelf. "They are the sworn enemies of peace and harmony."

"Why would they come here?" asked John as he knelt next to the others.

"They came here in search of Marcus." coughed Old Ben.

"Me? What would they want with me?" asked a confused Marcus as he looked at Old Ben worried and concerned.

"It's because of your special abilities. It has gotten out to them that there is a child who fits the prophecy of the Paladin and they fear what you may become." replied Old Ben.

"But why'd they attack you grandpa?" asked James as he took Old Ben's paw.

"This is a book store they came seeking whatever I knew about the child. They even tried to get his location out of me." weakly replied Old Ben.

"Mother!" exclaimed Marcus looking right at his father yet before he either one of them could move Old Ben took Marcus' paw and spoke in a raspy voice.

"Fear not little one I never told them where you lived but only because your father never really told me the name of the village." shamefully replied Old Ben. "But be careful they may have been watching the store and may know you're already here."

"What do we do?" asked Rebekah her voice full of worry as she looked around.

"Dad you and Mr. Squirrel need to get your weapons ready while Rebekah and Joy help Old Ben to the back storage room. You and Mr. Squirrel will protect them there." instructed Marcus as he closed his eyes and knelt there as if meditating on something.

"What about you?" asked Rebekah as she and her mother helped Old Ben to his feet.

"Wait why not just take him to the hospital and call in the guards?" asked John as he readied his mini crossbow.

"Mr. Squirrel we'd never make it to a hospital for starters and second the guards wont get here in time seeing as the Drakary are already here." replied Marcus still not looking up, "As for what I'll be doing? Well that's simple. They're here for me so I will let them come for me and show them what it means to see the light."

"Be safe son." pleaded James as he helped Old Ben onto his one shoulder to make the trip to the back room easier and quicker.

At the same time five men burst into the store in black cloaks and wielding black steel blades which looked very demonic. John panic shot his crossbow which did manage to strike one of them in head causing them to drop to the ground dead. He then helped James and the girls escort Old Ben to safety.

Meanwhile, the remaining four circled Marcus who'd yet to open his eye but was grinning as he mumbled, "Brightest Light! Darkness Fight! Fear Shaken! Life Taken! Burning Bright! Fire Fight!"

Just then Marcus opened his eyes and they burned red as rings of fire began to circle him making the room both extremely hot as well as extremely bright, yet neither him no the store was being burned. It was however forcing the cloaked figures back in fear.

Just then one of the figures tried to run for James and the others in hope to use them as a hostage when Marcus flicked out one paw towards him launching a fire ball from one of the rings and right into the figure's back causing him to be instantly incinerated and creating a protective pillar near the others.

This now scared the remaining three yet they neither left nor approached them. It was at that point that he arrived. He was a large cream furred male grizzly with dark blue streaks in his fur along with icy blue eye. He was wearing a dark blue tunic with silver trim as well as silver and sapphire beaded necklace like gauntlet. He then raised his right paw and yelled, "Aqua Prison!"

This lead to a ball of water to shoot from his paw and sore right for Marcus and engulf his head. Thus making it impossible for him to breath or focus on his spell. So Marcus began to close his eyes as the flames flickered and faded. James started to leap into action only to have Old Ben grabbed his wrist and said, "Wait give him a chance, plus your sword is no match for his magic."

The grizzly slowly approached Marcus and grabbed his limp body by the throat not giving him a chance to even catch his breath but Marcus didn't need to breath to cast the spell he needed. Because just as the grizzly held him up by the throat as a trophy Marcus opened his eye wide and the glowed a bright white. Old Ben grinned as Marcus placed his paws on the grizzly's arm causing a great deal of smoke as a bright white flash erupted causing his fore arm to turn to ash.

At the same time one of the other figures had tried to sneak near Old Ben and the others only to be ran through by James while his friend was shot dead by John. This left the grizzly, who was now holding what was left of his right arm in pain, and one of the cloaked figures. As for Marcus he fell to the ground and wasn't moving but a small white flame burned over him almost as if to shield him and keep him safe.

"Lord Aquarius we best flee before the city guard arrive." pleaded the one remaining underling as he started to inch towards the door.

"This isn't over Ben-A-Gar The Great!" shouted the grizzly before the two of them vanished in a splashing drop of water.

Shockingly Rebekah was the first to dash over to Marcus to make sure he was okay slowly followed by the others. Now only once it was he knew it was safe did James put away his sword and turn to face Old Ben before asking, "What's this about Ben-A-Gard the Great?"
