Legacy of Harry Potter

Chapter 10: Horcrux

June 1994

4 Privet Drive

"Harry now we should discuss the second unique situation we mentioned about you," said Antioch.

Harry nodded and from their expressions he could tell that this was not something good.

"We won't mince our words, Harry. There is piece of soul latched on you, in your mindscape," informed Cadmus.

Realization struck Harry, "Voldermort."

"We also think that it is him," added Ignotus. "And we believe it was during when you vanquished him and he latched onto your forehead on your scar."

"It is him. Every time I was near Quirrell my scar did hurt and even while facing his soul wraith in Chamber of Secrets I had tingling sensation in my scar," muttered Harry.

"To tell you the truth Harry, it is wonder that with your magic, soul and mind bound that soul was not able to take possession over you," stated Ignotus.

"Is it going to be a problem?" Asked Harry almost in frightened tone.

The three brothers shook their head.

Cadmus scoffed, "I say that your headmaster Dumbledore did all this knowingly and willingly. He either hoped you turn into a squib using these bounds or hoped that the soul latched on you take possession over you."

Harry wondered inwardly. Recent events which have come to light made him sure that Dumbledore was somehow trying to manipulate him and keeping him away and uniformed about the wizarding world other than Hogwarts. But he was still not sure that if Dumbledore had really fallen down so low to so such plotting.

"I agree with that. How come the greatest wizard of your time never noticed this or how come healers at Hogwarts did not noticed a literal soul piece on your scar. And that is no ordinary soul piece. It is so foul and dark and smells of sickness," muttered Antioch.

"Very true. If you survived a killing curse with only a scar left on your body then that scar should have been through checked. How come it never happened," opined Ignotus.

And there went any hope Harry had in his mind of goodness of Dumbledore.

"In our time wizards had the means and knowledge to deal with such a situation. Goblins would have also done an excellent job in removing that latched soul piece. After all they are specialist in curse breaking and soul magic. They would have also noticed it very easily when they removed your bindings. The only reason they were nit able detect the latched soul piece was because as soon we arrived, we trapped it shut and masked its presence so that it does not create a disturbance in our conversation," added Antioch.

"You trapped it shut? So, it will remain trapped forever? What are we going to do?" Questioned Harry.

Cadmus said, "Dealing with the soul piece is not that tough Harry. We will help you in that matter. Though we are not a soul in a real sense and only a small consciousness left using a ritual magic we are sufficiently powerful. And even so the soul latched onto you is no complete soul but a broken and small piece with hardly any power. Given even time and if you had remained unaware then it may have taken control over you. But now you can access your mindscape with your full magical reserve and a complete soul. I believe that even you without any experience can deal with that."

Still seeing a solemn appear in their faces Harry frowned, "Then what is the matter?"

Antioch sighed, "At first we considered it nothing major. We considered it to be any kind of accident. We even thought that this latched foul soul is reason Death blessed you but as you told your life story and your encounter with two soul wraiths of same person to whom this latched soul belonged, it indicated things in certain other directions."

"What?" Asked Harry.

"Horcrux," muttered Cadmus.

Harry frowned and brainstormed his memories if he had heard of this term, "What is it?"

Antioch sighed, "It is a dark magical ritual, very dark and very foul. Even during our time people shuddered over it."

He continued, "It involves splitting your soul into many pieces and anchoring them to certain things. It is said to be one method to attain immortality. To deceive Death. To kill that person every horcrux must be destroyed. And since there is no singular soul left, Death has nothing to claim for preventing the person dying from natural cause. The physical body grows old and fades away but the soul lives. With time he can possess some other person or create a new physical body for themselves. Various rituals and magical artifacts can help in it. The elixir from the Philosopher Stone you mentioned being one of them."

"The diary I destroyed and me are horcrux while the one possessing Quirrell would be the real one," added Harry.

The three brothers nodded.

"He must have created more. How many exactly, only he would be knowing," replied Cadmus.

"Horcrux creation is a very foul thing to do Harry. It involves literal splitting of your soul. To split your soul one time renders you insane and mind deformed. Any kind of morality is stripped of from that person," continued Antioch.

He added, "Harry to split the soul one time involves a long ritual requiring the blood and ingredients from many innocent and harmless creatures. But do you know what makes the ritual heinous?"

Harry waited for answer. He was disgusted from what he heard till now.

Cadmus picked up the conversation, "At the last stage of the ritual a sacrifice is said to be required, supposedly for Death," he scoffed at this, "11 cold blooded murder is required to complete it. 11 unicorns, 11 Centaurs and 11 Wizard or Witch are sacrificed."

Harry almost lost his control. He was disgusted to the core at what he heard. He wondered how low and foul Voldermort have fallen so as to gain immortality.

AUTHOR: Most stories describe one cold blooded murder is required for horcrux creation. But Voldermort was killing innocent people in dozens during his raids so how that one murder is something extreme?

That is why I decided to go more sinister and heinous about his horcrux creation which actually make it foul and dark even by Voldermort's standards. I may have overdone it but I felt it to be appropriate.

Please tell your opinion about this.
