Chapter 8: Reminder of Past Life
"Little female, can I be your mate?"
Daisy had just put the broth in her mouth when she heard something absurd. She spat out the broth, shocked and terrified.
She abruptly turned to face the speaker, "Did you just say something?"
Leif wasn't upset that she had spit out his perfect broth; in fact, he found her reaction quite cute and amusing. "I said, I want to be your mate."
Daisy's eyes grew wide with disbelief. So what she read in those cliche novels were true; the female leads would be rescued by either snake man or wolf man, then they would find the female lead attractive and ask her to be their mate.
She had once laughed it off when she read those unrealistic scenes, but now that it was happening to her, she could not laugh.
She instinctively touched her left cheek and neck, wondering how a handsome man like him could desire a female as ugly as her.
When she was just over 4 years old, her mother, who disliked her for being born as a girl, had poured hot oil on her face while she was crying.
Since then, she had stopped crying. Eventually, her father couldn't bear to keep her in the house as her ugly face scared her grandparents and relatives.
Then she was abandoned in front of a orphanage. She instinctively avoided mirrors and touching the left part of her face, cheating her mind that she looked normal and beautiful just like any other girl.
She had gotten used to ignoring the fatal flaw that she forgot about it when she came to this strange world. But when she suddenly heard a man confess to her, she instinctively touched her scar, trying to wake herself up from imagining things.
She thought she would feel the familiar rough and uneven skin, but to her bewilderment, her fingertips touched a smooth and soft surface without any bumps. She hurriedly touched her face and neck, wanting to make sure that she wasn't dreaming.
Her fingers wandered carefully over her skin, searching for the irregularities that had always marked her face.
It was all gone; her skin was smooth and flawless. She couldn't believe it, touching her face and neck with disbelief.
She held Leif's shoulder abruptly, her face filled with uncertainty and a hint of desperation. "Can you tell me if-if my face has any scar?
Leif was puzzled by her question. What scar was the female talking about? He stared at her smooth and delicate face, a blush slowly spreading across his cold face. "N-No, there is no scar on your face."
Daisy didn't even notice the tears streaming down her face as she threatened him with a trembling voice, "Y-You're lying to me.... Tell me the truth!" She had forgotten that she was afraid of him a few seconds ago.
Seeing her tears, Leif was taken aback. Why was the female crying? Did he say something wrong? He anxiously replied, "Why would I lie to you? You look so beautiful. You're the most gorgeous female I have ever seen on the beastlands! Don't cry. I swear in the name of beast God!"
Daisy fell on the damp ground of the cave and sobbed, covering her face as though she was trying to feel every inch of her skin. "It...It's gone...they're all gone...all gone..." Her breathing was rapid and shallow, and she couldn't control the mixed emotions that were overwhelming her.
Despite her ability to ignore the scar on her face, she could never ignore the strange stares and words of people around her. The pain, humiliation, and the insecurities she suffered since childhood slowly resurfaced and disappeared with the scar.
Her sobbing turned into tears of pure joy as she felt as though a burden has been lifted off her shoulders. The ugly scar was a reminder of her unhappy life, but it also defined her courage to face everything in her previous world.
She felt a pang of sadness, as though she was bidding goodbye to a part of her that identified her and everything related to her world. Her cries grew louder and louder, filling the cave with her tears.
The emotions that were brewing inside of her from the moment she died instantly burst out and she couldn't stop crying.
Leif was going crazy. He didn't know what had happened to the female, and he deeply regretted his proposal. She was frightened silly and couldn't stop crying due to it.
"Don't cry! I understand if you don't want to be my mate, it's okay." He tightly pursed his lips, trying to control his ugly expression.
"Stop crying, little female. I'll take you to a village nearby and you can try finding your tribes men there! Okay? Please stop crying." His last sentence held a hint of pleading.
Daisy turned to look at him, her face still damp with tears and her voice choked with sobs. "Re-really?" Her eyes and cheeks were puffy from crying, and her nose was slightly red and pinched. Her lips were slightly parted, as if she was still sobbing but trying not to.
Leif was overwhelmed by the sight of her cute face, and he wanted nothing more than to hug and embrace her. However, considering that his actions might earn another earful of cries, he managed to control his emotions.
He hesitated, his heart was unwilling to let her go, but he also couldn't bear to see her tearful face any longer, so he answered her question with a simple, "Yes."
Daisy's entire face lit up, her honey brown eyes sparkled with happiness. Not only did her scar disappear, but she also found a sense of civilization!
This snake man was like her lucky charm.
"Thank you, Leif." She thanked him, a genuine smile on her delicate face.
The way she looked at him with those enchanting honey brown eyes made Leif feel drawn in and mesmerized. His stoic expression instantly melted away as his lips curved into a small smile with a subtle redness on his cheeks.
He felt a surge of excitement and a desire to just reach out and squeeze her into his body, just wanting to make her his mate right away.
He felt a strong and burning passion towards the strange female, which was something that couldn't be compared to anything else he had ever felt.
