Chapter 23: Death of Irvington
After Mr Nolan sighted his daughter with Sir Thomas, he decided to watch from a distance and not interrupt them. After all, he wished that both his girls would find good and noble men. But he didn't want to persuade his daughter into accepting Sir Thomas until she willingly gives him her heart. He did have a penchant towards the young man but hardly showed it.
Sir Thomas wasn't at the square earlier, he was passing by in his carriage and stopped when he sighted the women leaving the square. As he watched them through the window, he wondered why the woman gathered outside the square. Some women whom their husbands weren't in the square, went home immediately while the others, waited outside the square. As his eyes scanned them, he saw his beloved. Gabrielle Nolan. In his eyes she looked unique from the other women. He immediately ordered his Coachman to stop the carriage. Gabrielle stood at a corner where her father would easily sight her on his way out of the square.
She had her hands folded and the sun left a golden hue on her skin, making her appear more alluring. Her black hair was shining bright and Sir Thomas was sure that if he doesn't approach her fast, a male passerby might approach her instead because she was breath taking. He quickly got off his carriage and walked towards her. As he approached her, his heart beat skyrocketed. This woman was the only one that made him feel this way. Sir Thomas was trained by his parents Sir Elijah and Lady Silver, to be a proper noble man. They thought him literally everything he knows, including how to treat a woman rightly. Sir Thomas was determined to make Gabrielle Nolan his but if she wasn't willing to be with him, he wasn't going to force things.
Finally getting to where she was, Gabrielle smiled when she saw him. "Good morning my lady" Sir Thomas greeted. "Good morning my Lord." Gabrielle curtsied. "You came to watch Lord Irvington's demise also?" She asked.
"No. I was passing by and I happened to see an angel, the angel looked so beautiful so I decided to come talk to it" Sir Thomas stated with a smile on his face.
"Wow. I see you've found something else that draws your attention" Gabrielle feigned ignorance. She knew perfectly well, the angel he meant was her but she still decided to act ignorant.
Sir Thomas scoffed and leaned towards her ear, whispering "My lady, you know you're the only one who has my full attention. You're the angel Gabrielle".
Gabrielle's cheeks turned pink from blushing "My Lord if people hear your words they'd assume we are having an affair or they might assume we are married".
This time, Mr Nolan was already watching them as they conversed. "Don't you want to get married my lady?" Sir Thomas asked cutting her off guard. She blinked repeatedly and answered "Of course I do my Lord". "Then marry me my beautiful lady" Sir Thomas said and Gabrielle slightly turned away from him because of how shy she was feeling. She was sure that if she looked at herself in the mirror right now, she'll look like a tomato.
Mr Nolan saw how his daughter turned her face from Sir Thomas and wondered if something was wrong, he then walked up to them. Seeing Mr Nolan, Sir Thomas greeted him. "Thomas how are you doing?" Mr Nolan asked. "I'm doing well, my Lord. Thank you. I hope you're doing well too?" Sir Thomas asked. "Yes yes. I'm doing great!" Mr Nolan answered. Gabrielle wanted to say something but Sir Thomas beat her to it. "Are you on your way home my Lord?" He asked Mr Nolan. "I wanted to speak to the king but I changed my mind. I'll be heading home now" Nolan answered. Sir Thomas lead them to his carriage and he rode them home.
Meanwhile, Irvington was still laying half dead on the wooden platform. The king's soliders had loosed him from the chains but he had lost so much blood that he couldn't even move. Slowly, he saw death knocking on his door. Seconds turned into minutes, minutes to hours, hours to days, Irvington laid there. He had given up on life and not even one of his wives came looking for him. His flesh was slowly eaten by crows and vultures. The birds even fought for who will take a turn to feed on Irvington. Luckily, his bleeding stopped and he was still conscious after a few days but because of the birds that ate his flesh and because of how much blood he had lost, he eventually died three days after his punishment.
