Lurking in the Shadows; Creature of the Night

Chapter 24: Great grandfather

There was a deafening silence in the square after the appearance of a night creature. His presence made all the birds and crows in the square disperse in fear and the clouds darkened also acknowledging the presence of this creature.  The demeanor and aura this creature had was threatening. His legs which were ascending the wooden platform made it release a creaking sound. He finally got to the top of the platform and walked towards the bones of a just deceased person. He stared down in pity and uttered "I'm sorry I came late friend Irvington". His eyes scanned the body of Irvington, rotten flesh was still present on Irvington but most parts were just bones. Flies rested on the body of the corpse irking the creature of the night. The creature carried the bones away, planning to bury it somewhere. "I guess I'd have to avenge you friend" the man said as he left the square, heading to the abode of the one who had his friend killed.

Sebastian was having a warm bath when he heard a voice say to him "Your soul belongs to me". Sebastian was puzzled for a split second before continuing to take his bath. Few minutes later, he got out of the bath and pulled a silk silver robe over his shoulders. He tied a knot with the silk belt of the robe and walked towards his window. He wasn't in a pleasant mood that morning because there was no human to punish at that time, he looked through the glass windows that were on the walls and from his room, he could see almost everywhere in his castle. Still looking down admiring his castle, he noticed how the clouds changed color. They immediately turned dark and an eerie feeling filled the atmosphere. Sebastian scoffed as he knew what was happening, this wasn't the first time it was happening. He had met his great grandfather a couple of times before now and he liked none of the encounters. "No wonder" Sebastian said to himself. He just realized why he heard that voice earlier. His old man had come to pay a visit but Sebastian, just like the other times wasn't willing to converse with his great grandfather. Cold air filled his room as the being's presence was made known.

For some seconds, there was complete silence in the room before the alluring voice said "Sebastian, son". Sebastian sighed tiredly as he turned to his great grandfather who was a few steps behind him. "What do you want?" Came Sebastian's question. He wasn't willing to play the fake great grandfather and great grandson game. He wanted nothing to do with this man because while he needed him, he wasn't there. "Tsk tsk tsk. Is that how you speak to your old man?" The man asked feeling a bit disappointed. Sebastian noticed the similarity in the voice of his great grandfather and the voice that spoke to him earlier. This was his great grandfather's tricks. He wanted to play with Sebastian's mind before he showed himself to Sebastian.

"I have no time for fake pleasantries old man" Sebastian said about to turn his back on him when the man appeared right in front of him with a disappointed expression.

"It's okay if you don't not want to speak to me. I just came too see how you are doing and I also came to warn you. Someone is coming after your life. Do you need my help?" Sebastian looked into the mysterious eyes of his great grandfather. "I can handle myself. You can go away now".

"It's a shame I'm offering my help now and you don't want it. Well, I'd be off now" With that, the man vanished out of the room leaving only a dense and eerie atmosphere behind.
