Marrying Unohana Retsu from Bleach

Chapter 13: Chapter 12: Bankai

"Have all the Gotei 13 squad members in the vicinity retreat immediately!"

"The upcoming battle is no longer something they can afford to witness."

Yamamoto's hoarse voice carried the weight of authority, his sharp eyes brimming with a murderous aura, now tinged with gravity.

As the captain-commander of the Gotei 13, Yamamoto had already foreseen the events about to unfold.

"You, as the captains of the Gotei 13, bear the responsibility of protecting your squad members! Now, escort them all back to their barracks. Leave the rest to me—alone."

Even though Yamamoto was not used to uttering the word "protect," his position and duties compelled him to issue this command. Turning to the captains behind him, he ordered them to take their squad members back to safety.

""As you command, Captain-commander!""

The captains standing behind Yamamoto bowed in unison. None dared to question his orders.

Yamamoto was the strongest among them, and they held unwavering faith in his ability to handle the situation, even when facing monsters like Unohana Yachiru and Araki.

"Um, Captain-Commander Yamamoto…"

"Saitō, let's go! Now!"

"Damn you, Chika! Stop calling me 'Saitō.' I have something to ask the captain-commander."

"Do you think the captain-commander has time to entertain your questions right now? Just follow his orders unless you want to face the consequences later."

"…Fine."

Even Saitō was convinced by Senichi to reluctantly step away. He cast a lingering look at Yamamoto's back, then one more wistful glance at Araki, who was locked in battle with Unohana. With a resigned sigh, he turned and left.

One by one, the captains of the Gotei 13 dispersed, leading their squads away under Yamamoto's stern command. Soon, only Yamamoto and his lieutenant, Sasakibe Chōjirō, remained on the rooftop, silently watching the fierce confrontation between Araki and Unohana unfold in the ruins below.

A kilometer away from the battlefield...

Several members of the Fifth Division hesitated, caught between duty and self-preservation. Lacking the strength of their captains, they were unable to get close enough to witness the battle.

"What are we supposed to do now? The captain is missing; we can't reach him, and we're far too weak to intervene in that fight between those two monsters."

The squad members exchanged helpless glances, their frustration evident in their voices.

"Hey! Stop dawdling and come back to the barracks with me."

Suddenly, Fifth Division Captain Obana Tanjirō appeared behind them, calling out in a commanding voice.

"Captain, you're here?!"

"Where have you been, Captain?"

"Captain, as members of the Gotei 13, should we really just ignore the battle happening over there?"

The squad members bombarded Obana with questions, their voices rising in desperation.

"Enough!"

Obana raised a hand to silence them.

"The captain-commander has given his orders: we captains are to take our squads back to the barracks immediately. As for those two... I suggest you leave them to the captain-commander. He can handle it."

The squad members, taken aback, quickly fell silent.

"What? The captain-commander is here?!"

Their eyes widened in shock. They had not expected the battle between Unohana and Araki to draw the attention of Yamamoto Genryūsai himself.

"See for yourselves!"

Obana pointed toward the rooftop where Yamamoto stood, his figure resolute under the sunlight.

"If the captain-commander is here, then this chaos will soon come to an end," one of the squad members murmured, a wave of relief washing over them.

To them, Yamamoto was the anchor and guardian of the Gotei 13. His presence alone was enough to dispel their fear.

"Captain, do you think we'll get to see the captain-commander, the strongest Shinigami in Seireitei, in action? If so, even dying here would be worth it."

The squad members, emboldened by Yamamoto's presence, were now filled with a fervent desire to witness his power.

"No. Even if you stay here, you likely won't see him make a move."

Obana shook his head as he stepped in front of the group, raising a spiritual barrier to shield them.

"Those two monsters are about to get serious, and the aftermath of their clash will be too much for you to withstand."

"Wait... are you saying that Captain Unohana and Araki haven't even been serious up until now?!"

The squad members were stunned, their confusion palpable.

Back at the battlefield...

As the captains led their squads away, leaving Unohana and Araki to their duel, the tension in the air thickened. The two combatants, standing amid the ruins, raised their Zanpakutō simultaneously.

No more distractions. The time had come.

Together, they spoke a single word that echoed throughout Seireitei:

""Bankai!!""

The moment the word left their lips, a massive wave of cold, oppressive spiritual pressure swept across Seireitei. Every Shinigami felt a chill deep in their soul, as if a torrent of murderous intent was rushing toward them.

Those who had lingered too close to the battlefield found themselves suffocated under the crushing weight of the unleashed spiritual energy. It was as if a giant hammer had struck their heads, forcing them to their knees.

"—Sacred Surgeon's Sanctuary, Yakushi Ruriko!"

"—Release Them of Their Suffering, Minazuki!"

At the same time, Unohana and Araki released their Bankai. A cascade of dazzling rainbow light clashed against an endless sea of blood, radiating outward from the two combatants and consuming everything in its path.
