Chapter 7: normal reports
Jason's POV
I'm looking through Benjamin's data, just got it from various places like schools and police reports.
Most of it checks out like how he disappeared half a year ago.
Akira's hacking skills are definitely useful.
Now, before anyone gets the delusion that I can break into Stark's database, stop right there.
Jarvis is seriously underrated.
And Tony Stark not Iron Man, just Tony Stark is a genius.
Even without his suit.
You really think he didn't have precautions in place? Or that no one's tried hacking him before? Get real.
He'd have an entire team ready to hunt down anyone who even thought about it.
Anyway, back to Benjamin. I've let him stay for now.
Not because I feel sorry for him or anything sentimental like that. It's purely practical.
If the people who captured him have his records, it's only a matter of time before they come looking. And when they do? Well, I could either be in serious trouble… or it could be a golden opportunity, depending on how I play my cards.
I could've just kicked him out, let him become someone else's problem. But this might be my chance to carve my own path into the real world, on my terms.
At first, the idea of being discovered freaked me out. What if some telepath caught me off guard? Read my mind? Took control? I couldn't stop thinking about it. For days, the paranoia ate at me.
Then I realized… so what? What can I even do about it? Nothing.
For all I know, the next person I meet could already be inside my head. Maybe someone already is.
Most people think telepaths can just dive into someone's thoughts and memories like flipping through a book, but it doesn't work that way. They mostly pick up surface thoughts, and even that depends on whether they can control their abilities. Memories are a whole different level harder to access and requiring intent.
It's not like telepaths walk around randomly pulling up people's life stories. At best, they might catch stray thoughts. And even if they wanted to dig into memories, it takes serious skill to go deep. A telepath who just discovered their powers isn't going to sift through decades of someone's life. It's just not that simple.
And it's not like I arrived here under the radar. People with time related powers probably noticed changes the moment I got here.
Honestly, I half expected some three headed cosmic entity to show up and judge me.
But nothing happened.
Or maybe… the gacha's protecting my memories?
Yeah, probably not. I haven't tested it, and I'm definitely not eager to find out by calling someone like Xavier.
Still, I'll need a psychic template sooner rather than later. I can't keep leaving myself this exposed.
"What happened?" I asked without turning, already sensing Benjamin behind me.
"How do you..." he started muttering.
"Know you're behind me?" I turned to look at him.
He nodded.
"You weren't exactly quiet," I said, turning back to the laptop. Sako didn't just give me powers, he gave me experience and senses too.
"Was I?" Benjamin muttered, before hesitating and asking, "So... what should I do now?"
Yeah, I didn't let him stay as a freeloader. He's responsible for everything except cooking because he doesn't know how.
Not that there's much to do. Just basic cleaning and maintaining the place.
"Hmm, just clean the storage after lunch," I said, my attention fixed on the news. Something about Eddie getting fired from the Daily Globe.
"So, Sony version?" I muttered, thinking about the Venom plot.
I'd definitely get involved if I got a Tinker template from Worm.
The chaos would be the perfect time to loot some gear.
Of course, that's assuming the plot actually sticks to the original.
But even if it doesn't, I have to.
You know what they say about a butterfly flapping its wings small actions can lead to big consequences.
Who knows what I've already changed... or what's still changing because of me?
And then there's the whole issue of staying off the radar of any secret agencies.
The moment symbiot shows up, you can bet SHIELD will, too. And where SHIELD goes, Hydra isn't far behind.
In fact, I need to be careful in case Benjamin was captured by Hydra. After all, they're the ones whose name comes up whenever something goes wrong.
There was more news. In Wisconsin, a video had surfaced of a green-skinned man displaying superhuman strength and near-impervious durability. The aggression he showed in just a few seconds of footage was enough to send the internet into a frenzy
The video's just a snippet, but people are already calling him a mutant hiding in plain sight.
I need to make sure to stay far away if it comes down to two monsters clashing.
But honestly, that's not what worries me the most.
What really gets to me is the source the one below all.
It's strange how fanfictions rarely mention him. They barely scratch the surface of Marvel's real universe. Where are the stories about the Celestials, the Beyonders, Chaos and Order, or Galactus?
Or it's just the usual suspects Avengers, Spider-Man, mutants. Maybe a dash of Thanos for flair. Like the rest of the Marvel cosmos doesn't even exist.
But then again, if Marvel isn't taking its own multiverse seriously, why would anyone else?
It's like What If...? isn't even about "what if" anymore ,it's more like Where If...?, just following CC on her adventures through the multiverse.
Seriously, guys.
Was there really no better plot?
And even if they wanted to create a connection between universes, was she really the only choice?
It feels like plot armor stuck to her throughout the entire new season.
I understand that Hollywood is tied to politics, but it's starting to ruin entertainment.
I'm not against women, but when there are so many better options in both quality and quantity, yet they still choose her over everyone else what can I even say?
