Chapter 8: Chapter 8 - Young Spider-Man (3/4)
Lifting his foot out of the alley, Ethan walked down the streets of Hell's Kitchen, maintaining the posture of a wind and water stance, hurrying along.
He was trying to come across a "random mission."
The so-called "random mission" means waiting for someone to ask for help, then taking on their task.
He couldn't just pull someone aside and say, "I want to help you with something, pay me~" or something like that.
That would be too low-key and too intentional.
So, after thinking about it all night, Ethan came up with a plan to "take random missions."
As long as he's in a chaotic area, someone will eventually ask for help.
However, there's one thing to note: when it comes to accepting tasks, they should come from Konoha's mission hall.
There, you can find as many tasks as you want.
Without Konoha's mission hall, it's really inconvenient to get missions.
"Hey! You, the kid in the fancy clothes!"
However, instead of waiting for the "random mission," he was interrupted by a person.
A bald man stopped him.
The man was white, about two meters tall, broad in the waist and shoulders, with a face full of muscle, looking fierce and threatening.
"Got a problem?" Ethan said as the man stopped him.
This was exactly what Ethan expected: trouble.
Wasn't it the plan all along to find a mission, accept it, and complete it?
Of course, if there's no payment involved, that's fine too.
So, Ethan was already prepared to be stopped by strangers.
Ethan was good at talking, but the man misunderstood, thinking Ethan was trying to mess with him. He grabbed Ethan by the collar and growled, "You're looking for trouble here, huh?"
"Huh?" Ethan didn't understand, so he glanced at the bald man's hand clutching his collar. "Could you let go before you talk?"
"Haha! Bald John is about to do something crazy, watch this! I bet five seconds!"
"Five seconds? You're overestimating this little white boy, he'll beg for mercy in three seconds!"
"I bet three seconds!"
"Let's go!"
The crowd watching didn't call the police or try to help. Instead, they watched in amusement.
Clearly, these people were just as bad.
Bald John laughed at Ethan's words, "Boy, looks like you're looking for trouble and offering me money, huh?"
Ethan realized what was going on. "Robbery?"
"No, no, no, how could you call it robbery?" Bald John spat in Ethan's face. Ethan frowned. "Didn't I just say? You're here to give me money."
He thought for a moment. "You should give me a thousand dollars, right?"
As he spoke, he raised his free hand, shaking his massive fist in front of Ethan.
"I don't want to hear a 'no,' or I might get angry, and then my fist will fall uncontrollably."
Seeing this, Ethan didn't respond but turned his head, looking around at the onlookers.
"So, you're all scumbags?"
"!!!" Bald John seethed with rage. "What did you say?!"
At that moment, his fist was about to come down on Ethan.
Suddenly, a young voice cried out, "Don't bully him, I'm calling the police!"
Bald John stopped and turned to look.
Ethan also pulled back his hand, which had been preparing the Rasengan, and looked over.
It was a teenage boy with brown hair, holding a phone in his hand. He was gathering the courage to shout, "Let him go!"
"Hahahaha!!!" Everyone, including Bald John, burst out laughing.
Bald John, still holding Ethan, walked toward the boy, bent over, and said, "Kid, don't you know the New York police won't come here?"
"Ah!" The boy looked frightened, "But the police officer just said they'd be here soon…"
"That's a lie! They'll only come after everything's over to clean up! Hahahaha!!"
The crowd laughed loudly. Seeing this, Peter Parker, who was only eleven, had an expression of despair. Though young, he understood all too well the consequences of crossing such a gangster.
He'd get beaten half to death and robbed — that was the best-case scenario.
If things got worse, he couldn't even imagine what would happen to him.
He was just out to buy something, never expecting to get caught up in such a situation.
Since he was a child, he had a sense of justice, and of course, he couldn't just stand by.
But he wasn't stupid. Instead of rushing in, he called the police.
Unexpectedly, the police didn't care.
What was he supposed to do now?
Looking at the frightened boy, Ethan decided it was time to act.
Ethan liked this brave and kind-hearted kid who wasn't afraid to step in to help, even if it meant danger.
In such cases, of course, he had to protect him.
So, Ethan raised his hand and grabbed Bald John's wrist, slowly applying pressure.
