Marvel - The Blood God

Chapter 61: Chapter 73 - Fate

The battle had reached a fever pitch. As the lizardmen suffered heavy losses, Kingpin's expression darkened. He raised his hand, signaling for the rocket launchers strategically placed on nearby rooftops to fire. Dozens of missiles streaked through the air, trailing fiery tails as they honed in on the Osborn Building.

Just as the rockets neared their target, Maverick, standing on a balcony overlooking the chaos, pressed his hands down with an air of authority. A massive shockwave of energy rippled outward, halting the rockets mid-flight. One by one, they detonated harmlessly in the sky, sending fiery plumes cascading harmlessly away from the building.

"How is that even possible?" Coulson muttered, stunned by the sheer display of power. What he didn't realize was that Manhattan was Maverick's domain, a place where his abilities were magnified to unparalleled levels.

Kingpin snarled, his frustration evident. "All lizardmen, attack! Long live the lizardmen!"

"Long live the lizardmen!" the cry echoed as hundreds of individuals poured out of nearby buildings. Shouting defiantly, they transformed into grotesque lizardmen, their human forms melting away as they surged toward the Osborn Building with reckless abandon.

Frank Castle, perched on a sniper's vantage point, surveyed the carnage below. To him, this wasn't just a skirmish; it was a war. But it wasn't only Frank who thought that way—Kingpin had ambitions far beyond this battle. This was a rebellion, the opening salvo in his twisted dream of establishing a new order: the Kingdom of the Lizardmen.

From above, Maverick smirked, his voice cutting through the chaos. "Kingpin, you've certainly outdone yourself. But I've got a surprise of my own! Ivan, deploy the drones!"

"On it," Ivan replied, tapping his smartwatch. Moments later, more than twenty sleek, unmanned combat suits launched from the Osborn Building, their jet engines roaring as they entered the fray. Armed with Gatling guns and grenade launchers, they rained devastation on the lizardmen below. Screams and roars of pain filled the air as the enemy ranks were shredded by the relentless assault.

"Drones?" Coulson gasped. "No wonder Maverick's so confident. He's got backup like this?"

Kingpin's face twisted into a scowl. "Forget the drones! Break into the building!"

Following his command, the lizardmen redirected their charge, barreling toward the Osborn Building's entrances. The Blood Guard and the drones fought valiantly to hold the line, but the sheer numbers overwhelmed them. The battle escalated into a brutal melee, with combat spilling into the lower floors of the building.

Ivan, still in the thick of the fight, handed drone control to Frank before hefting his signature battle axe. With a single swing, he cleaved a lizardman cleanly in two.

Dr. Banner swooped in on a glider, landing nearby. He grimaced as he saw Ivan's handiwork. "Could you try being less barbaric?"

Ivan laughed, wiping blood from his axe. "This isn't a lab, Doc. Let Hulk out—this is his kind of party!"

Banner hesitated, then sighed. "Fine. But Hulk, remember, no collateral damage. And those educational tapes better work this time."

With that, he relinquished control. In seconds, the Hulk emerged, roaring with delight as he joined the fray. Wasting no time, he smashed a lizardman's head with a single punch, then grabbed another by the tail, using it as a makeshift club to batter several others into submission. The battlefield quaked under his ferocious assault.

Despite the overwhelming power of Maverick's forces, the lizardmen's sheer numbers proved a challenge. Many managed to slip past the defenses and into the Osborn Building, forcing security guards into desperate battles across multiple floors.

As the chaos raged on, a familiar mechanical hum filled the air. With his signature flair, Iron Man descended from the sky, his suit gleaming. Spotting the drones in action, he muttered, "Great. Now everyone's going to think I stole his idea."

Ivan spotted him immediately. "Hey, tin can! What're you doing here?"

"Saving your sorry hide," Iron Man retorted, blasting a leaping lizardman with his repulsor beam. "From the looks of things, you need it."

"With that firepower? You're more of a cheerleader than a fighter."

"Says the guy who treats battle suits like disposable toys."

Their banter was as relentless as the battle, eliciting weary chuckles from nearby allies.

Kingpin, meanwhile, grew desperate. Spotting a pickup truck arriving in the distance, he smirked. The vehicle carried a cutting-edge EMP device, his ace in the hole. The operatives inside activated the device, sending out a pulse that rippled across the battlefield. Drones and power suits alike dropped from the sky, their systems dead.

Iron Man plummeted toward the ground, swearing. "EMP? How the hell does Kingpin have this?"

Kingpin seized the moment, slamming his cane into the ground and charging at the grounded Iron Man. With a single, devastating strike, he sent Iron Man hurtling into a nearby wall.

Maverick watched from above, chuckling. "Another flight cut short, Stark?"

"Maverick, this is not the time!" Coulson shouted.

"Relax," Maverick replied. With a snap of his fingers, the Osborn Group's backup power kicked in, and the drones and suits reactivated. Ivan wasted no time, leaping onto the pickup and cleaving the EMP device in half.

"You were prepared for this?" Coulson asked, incredulous.

"Of course," Maverick replied. "Unlike certain egotists, I actually plan ahead."

As the battle raged on, Kingpin realized he would have to take matters into his own hands. With a guttural roar, his body began to transform. His muscles bulged grotesquely, and his tailored suit shredded as he morphed into a hulking, reptilian monster twice the size of the average lizardman.

"Hulk, smash!" roared the green behemoth, charging at Kingpin with fists raised. But to everyone's shock, Kingpin blocked the blow, his massive fists absorbing the force.

"You're not the only one with upgrades," Kingpin growled. "I've combined lizard DNA with human enhancement serum. I'm stronger than ever!"

With a swing of his massive tail, Kingpin sent Hulk flying into a truck, nearly toppling it. The ground trembled as the two titans collided again, trading blows that shook the battlefield.

"This is bad," Ivan muttered, hacking down a lizardman. "Kingpin's almost as strong as Hulk—and he's got that damn tail."

"Don't worry," Frank said. "The madder Hulk gets, the stronger he becomes."

Meanwhile, a team of Kingpin's operatives had infiltrated the Osborn Building's cross-species genetics lab. Wesley, Kingpin's lieutenant, led the team. "Finally," he muttered, stepping into the lab. "We've got the Canary equipment in sight. Throw the UV grenades and take out the guards!"

The lizardmen lobbed the grenades, flooding the lab with violet light. But when the light faded, the guards remained unharmed, their combat readiness unaffected.

"How? Vampires should be vulnerable to UV!" Wesley shouted.

One guard sneered. "Ever heard of technology? Our suits neutralize UV radiation."

Outmatched and enraged, Wesley ordered his team to drink human enhancement serum. The lizardmen grew even stronger, but so did the resolve of the Blood Guard. With their advanced weaponry and martial skill, the guards held their ground, preventing Wesley from reaching the Canary equipment.

In the midst of the chaos, Wesley finally broke through to the lab's inner sanctum, where Dr. Connors and Gwen Stacy were working feverishly.

"Dr. Connors," Wesley sneered, holding up a tablet. "Someone wants to speak with you."

On the screen, a bald scientist appeared, his expression smug. "Dr. Connors, your work has paved the way for our future. But I've perfected your serum. The age of humanity is over."

Connors stared at the screen in horror. "You're insane! The lizard serum is flawed—it destroys everything it touches!"

"Not me," the man replied with a grin. "I was the first to survive the transformation."

Before Connors could respond, Wesley screamed as a translucent figure emerged behind him, driving a dagger through his skull. The intruder's voice was cold and clear. "Not on my watch."

The tide of the battle shifted once more, and the struggle for control of the Osborn Building continued, the fate of the city hanging in the balance.
