Chapter 98: Chapter 98: The Birth of a Super Wand
After finishing the rock cakes at Hagrid's hut, George returned to the castle, as he still had classes in the afternoon.
As soon as he stepped into the main hall, a dwarf cupid caught sight of him, dumped a pile of Valentine's cards into his arms, and began strumming its harp.
The scene quickly drew a crowd of curious students, many of whom were giggling girls who had written the cards themselves.
Instead of hastily fleeing and making the situation more awkward, George stood there calmly, holding the pile of cards, and listened to the dwarf's performance. With a smile, he said: "Thank you all for your affection. I promise to read each card carefully when I get the time."
He then gracefully left the gathering.
However, in the crowd, he couldn't help but notice a seventh-year witch looking at him with a peculiar expression, which left him momentarily stunned.
'Did she also write me a card?'
From a rough count, George had received at least 30 Valentine's cards. Even if every first-year girl wrote him one, it wouldn't account for such a large number. Clearly, witches from other years had also contributed.
While cards from second or third years made sense, a seventh-year witch seemed a bit excessive. A six- or seven-year age difference wasn't trivial.
The thought reminded him of the "peanut butter teacher" in Shameless. He had to admit, the idea did have its... unique appeal.
On his way to class, George also witnessed Harry being chased by a dwarf cupid, only to have Draco Malfoy snatch a Valentine's card from him and read it aloud.
Harry eventually regained the card using a Disarming Charm.
The Disarming Charm, while primarily intended to disarm opponents of their wands, could actually knock away anything in someone's hand—whether it was a wand, a sword, a rocket launcher, or even a piece of tissue or a cup of tea.
Ignoring the little drama, George continued to the Transfiguration classroom, as the afternoon held two periods of the subject.
Professor McGonagall, as stern as ever, began the lesson with:
"Today, we will be covering Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration."
George diligently took notes, paying close attention.
Gamp's Law outlined the fundamental limitations of Transfiguration. It stated, for instance, that food could not be created out of nothing, transformations were not permanent (a transfigured pig would revert to a table when the spell wore off), magical objects could not be altered, quantities could not be increased, and true creation ex nihilo was impossible.
Suddenly, while taking notes, George paused, his face lighting up with excitement.
His counterpart in the Fairy Tail world had just made an extraordinary breakthrough.
"Sectumsempra!"
Standing in a forest behind the guildhall, George raised the newest wand he had crafted and cast the spell.
A one-meter-long, transparent blade of magic shot out from the wand, cleanly slicing through a large tree. The spell's power was more than tenfold what he could achieve with his wand in the Harry Potter world.
Even George himself was stunned by the display.
"Natsu's hair... is this powerful?"
Previously, he had made a wand with one of his own cat hairs as the core, but the result was only marginally better than his Harry Potter-world wand.
He then crafted a second wand using hair from a magical creature he had purchased from guild members. This new wand was significantly more effective than the first.
Finally, a few days ago, after Natsu, Lucy, and Happy returned from a mission, George discreetly plucked one of Natsu's hairs to make a third wand.
The result was the incredible display he'd just witnessed—a super wand with magical amplification over ten times stronger than anything he'd experienced before.
"Not even the Elder Wand in the Harry Potter world could be this good," he mused.
All three wands had identical wand shafts bought from the same magic shop, making the difference solely dependent on the core. And Natsu's hair far outperformed anything else.
"Could Dragon Slayers really possess physiques comparable to dragons? Even so, this level of enhancement is unbelievable."
Looking at the wand, George couldn't help but dream: "Someday, I must find a way to become a Dragon Slayer myself."
If he could achieve that, his innate ability to share talents across his avatars would allow all his counterparts—including his main body—to gain the Dragon Slayer's enhanced physique. He could even pluck his own hair to mass-produce super wands.
In future worlds, his avatars wouldn't have to worry about magical tools ever again.
Fortunately, his time spent around the guild had provided him with plenty of useful information, including methods to become a Dragon Slayer.
Not all Dragon Slayers, like Natsu, had been raised by actual dragons and taught magic from childhood.
Take Laxus Dreyar, one of the guild's S-Class mages and grandson of Guild Master Makarov. According to Mirajane, Laxus had been frail and sickly as a child, but his father implanted a Lightning Dragon Lacrima into his body, turning him into a formidable Lightning Dragon Slayer.
This meant that if George could acquire a Dragon Lacrima crafted from a dragon's heart, he too could become a Dragon Slayer—or, more accurately, a Dragon Slayer Cat.
The main challenge was that Dragon Lacrima was extremely rare, a priceless treasure that couldn't be purchased in the marketplace.
As a self-proclaimed "guild couch potato," George knew that finding one would require him to actually venture out into the world.
"Forget it. I'll deal with it later. For now, I should focus on finding a better wand shaft," he thought.
While Dragon Lacrima was nearly impossible to come by, better wand materials were within reach. His current wand's core far outclassed its shaft, and upgrading the latter could further boost its performance.
"Incendio Maxima!"
With a flick of the wand, George unleashed another spell.
What had previously been a small flame suitable for lighting candles erupted into a massive column of fire.
Over the next hour, George tested dozens of spells. He noticed that while all his magic was enhanced, the wand seemed to work particularly well with fire spells, curses, and dark magic.
For instance, the power of Sectumsempra and Incendio had increased by about 12 times, whereas utility spells like the Undetectable Extension Charm or Reparo only saw about a ninefold boost.
While the fire bonus made sense—given Natsu's affinity as a Fire Dragon Slayer—the high amplification of curses and dark magic was surprising.
Still, George wasn't complaining. More power, after all, was always a good thing.
...
T/N: Natsu is technically a demon created by Zeref so the curses getting amplified makes sense
