Chapter 26: Chapter 028 : A 'Fake Classmate'
Not sure how much time had passed, but suddenly there was a loud argument in the classroom. Ezaki Kitazawa groggily lifted his head and looked over in the direction of the noise.
"Don't put your feet on the desk!" Iida Tenya yelled at Bakugo Katsuki.
Bakugo Katsuki, already irritated, immediately got angry.
"Huh?"
"Don't you think it's disrespectful to the seniors at U.A., and to the people who made the desks?" Iida Tenya continued, lecturing Bakugo Katsuki.
But it was clear that Bakugo Katsuki wasn't listening at all.
"Who do you think you are? Which middle school did you come from? Just a small fry!" Bakugo Katsuki retorted.
"I? I'm Iida Tenya, a graduate of the private Soumei Middle School," Iida Tenya proudly introduced himself.
"Soumei!"
Bakugo Katsuki showed an excited expression. "Isn't that where all those damn elites come from? Worth killing!"
Iida Tenya froze for a moment, his face stiff as he said, "Worth killing? You're too brutal. Are you really aspiring to be a hero?"
"Hmph..."
Bakugo Katsuki snorted coldly and ignored him. At that moment, his eyes caught sight of Midoriya Izuku at the door.
Iida Tenya quickly noticed this and hurried over, greeting Midoriya Izuku enthusiastically.
Everyone in the class turned their attention to Midoriya Izuku, but Ezaki Kitazawa just glanced over and continued sleeping at his desk.
However, it wasn't long before Jiro Kyoka came over to Ezaki Kitazawa's desk and gave him a nudge.
Ezaki Kitazawa was startled, lifting his head. "Is it break time?"
"No, Aizawa-sensei wants us to change into our gym clothes and gather on the sports field," Jiro Kyoka replied.
"Oh!" Ezaki Kitazawa answered calmly, covering his mouth to yawn. He stood up and walked toward the door.
Jiro Kyoka quickly caught up with him. "Ezaki-kun? Don't you have anything to say to me?"
Ezaki Kitazawa turned around, blinking at her. "Say what?"
"Um... like, how you fought hard in the fierce competition for the recommendation, struggled through a lot, and earned a spot?" Jiro Kyoka asked.
Ezaki Kitazawa looked at her with a deadpan expression. "Oh... I guess it's just like you said."
Jiro Kyoka froze, feeling a bit awkward. After saying all that, he just gives that brief response... isn't that a little too dismissive?
"You want to know? I can tell you!"
At that moment, Yaoyorozu Momo suddenly spoke up from behind.
Jiro Kyoka turned around.
"You are?"
"Just like him, I'm also taking the exam for a recommended spot. My name is Yaoyorozu Momo," Yaoyorozu Momo said calmly.
"You're such a nice person. When you get the chance, tell her for me. I'll go change into my sportswear now," Ezaki Kitazawa thanked Yaoyorozu Momo and then turned around, heading toward the locker room.
"Is he always like this?" Yaoyorozu Momo asked Jiro Kyoka.
"What do you mean?" Jiro Kyoka asked curiously.
"Nothing! It's just his way of doing things. It's interesting. I've never met someone like him before," Yaoyorozu Momo said with a smile.
"Well... sort of. He used to be pretty arrogant, but now he's more confident. But it seems like his personality has changed a bit. Honestly, I was really surprised that he managed to get into U.A. through the recommendation exam," Jiro Kyoka said.
When Yaoyorozu Momo heard this, she was stunned. What does she mean, "I'm surprised he made it into U.A. through the recommendation exam"? With his abilities, shouldn't that have been a sure thing?
"From the way you're acting, you must have known Ezaki Kitazawa for a while, right?" Yaoyorozu Momo asked.
"Yeah! We went to the same elementary and middle school. We can be considered old classmates," Jiro Kyoka replied.
After hearing Jiro Kyoka's answer, a thought popped into Yaoyorozu Momo's mind: "You might be a 'fake classmate.'"
...
After some time, everyone had gathered on the sports field in their sportswear.
"Today's main task... the Quirk control test!"
"Quirk control test?"
"What about the entrance ceremony? What about the school tour?"
"If you want to be a hero, there's no time for those leisurely activities," Aizawa Shouta said calmly. "A big selling point of U.A. is its free school culture, and that applies to the teachers as well."
This was clearly meant to tell them that, in the end, the teachers call the shots around here.
Everyone looked at Aizawa Shouta with somewhat stiff expressions.
"You must have done this before in middle school! A physical test with Quirks banned," he said, pulling out his phone. The screen displayed various test items as he continued, "Our country still uses those standardized records to set average benchmarks. It's not reasonable at all. In U.A.'s entrance tests, the one who ranked first in the practical test was Bakugo, right?"
Aizawa Shouta's gaze turned to Bakugo Katsuki.
"Yeah!" Bakugo Katsuki nodded.
"How far did you throw the softball in middle school?" Aizawa Shouta asked.
"67 meters!" Bakugo Katsuki answered.
"Good, now try throwing it with your Quirk!"
