Chapter 2: Start of a New Experience
Meanwhile Amity was seen walking along the forest on her way toward the Owl House to return something to Luz, feeling awkward as she did so due to what had happened between the two recently.
"Just play it cool, you're just dropping something off Amity," the girl said to herself. "Just don't think about the kiss, after all it was completely harmless and meant nothing, just a silly gesture."
She arrived at The Owl House, hoping to find Luz, but instead saw a panicky looking Lilith and Hooty.
"What do we do!? Our poor Luz is stuck in the human world!" Hooty said.
"Hooty, that's where she's from," Lilith reminded. "But it sounds like Eda and Kind are stuck too, and I don't know how well they'll fit in."
"Oh no! Eda and King are stuck in the human world!" Hooty corrected.
"It's fine, it's fine, I'll just do what the Journal did," Lilith said, reading it over. "Uh...wait, let's see. How do I..." Lilith tried using some magic, but it wasn't working, she barely had the power to even start. "Oh no..."
"They're doomed!" Hooty panicked. "Oh our poor Eda, you two just reunited, you were going to make up for lost time and try to be a better sister! Now you'll never get that chance!"
Lilith turned to Hooty with a deadpan glare, "Thanks...You're so helpful."
"What's going on?" Amity asked, the girl making her way over.
"Oooooh, it's Amity!" Hooty teased. "Here to see Luz?"
"Put a cork in it," Amity said, then focused on Lilith. "What happened to Luz?"
"She went back to the human realm, and she took Eda and King with her," Lilith explained. "And her book's stuck here so now she can't come back to this realm."
"Luz is stuck on Earth!?" Amity asked in disbelief. "On no, will she be alright, I mean what if she gets hurt or something!?"
Lilith groaned in annoyance, "Am I the only one who remembers Luz is from Earth! She's human!"
Amity blushed in embarrassment, having somehow forgotten that detail, "Sorry, I guess the panic took over my common sense."
"It's fine, but if there is a reason to panic, it's because Eda and King are with her, and like I was telling Hooty, they're not going to fit in as well," Lilith said.
Luz woke up an hour later, still feeling a bit woozy from the lightning strike. "Where am I?"
"Hey Luz!" Sprig said, appearing beside the girl, startling her in the process.
"Please don't do that," a frustrated Luz said.
"Sorry about that," Sprig sheepishly replied. "Anyway, welcome to our home."
"Your home?" Luz asked, her eyes then widening in sudden realization. "Wait, the portal! What happened!"
"Uh...it kind of exploded, zapped you and knocked you unconscious," Sprig said, sheepishly rubbing his head.
"It did what?" Luz grabbed her head in frustration, "So now I'm stuck here? It took forever to get adjusted to the Boiling Isles, now I gotta start over?"
"Well you're not the first human to get stuck here, so it should be easier for you to adjust," Sprig said. "It won't be so bad."
"But my friends! I had friends back on the Boiling Isles! Gus, Willow, Amity…Ugh, they're going to be so worried about me!" Luz said. "I think I left my book there too, and that echo mouse! Oh man, getting a portal back to Earth is going to be even harder now!"
"Easy there, we'll work things out later, right now we should get you upstairs," Sprig said. "Your friends are worried, and so is Anne."
"Anne..." Luz remembered the girl she met not too long ago. "Oh right, this is my chance to get to know her better!"
"See, a bright side, and Anne's trying to find a way home too, so you can work together," Sprig said.
"Right, maybe this won't be so bad," Luz said. "Alright, I'm gonna try to make the best of this."
Luz and Sprig made their way upstairs, stepping into the living room as many things were going on at once. Hop Pop was showing Eda around, partially bragging about certain credentials to his name, such as his old potion business, that he has yet to admit it's eventual shutdown.
Polly was tagging alongside Eda, mostly to correct or keep Hop Pop from over exaggerating certain details.
On the couch, Anne was seen talking to King, the girl trying to understand just what type of creature he's supposed to be.
"So you believed you were a Demon King, and now you're not sure?" Anne asked.
"My memory is a bit fuzzy, and Eda may have exaggerated certain things about my upbringing, which I believed," King said. "She meant well but now I have more questions than answers about who I am. Really hoping I can get into contact with my long-lost father and get some things resolved."
"Sounds frustrating dude, still you don't really look like a demon, I mean aren't they supposed to be evil and sinister? You look pretty harmless to me," Anne said, then remembered something from not too long ago. "Well Domino 2 looked harmless as well, and then he tried to eat me. Hop Pop never let me have a pet here again, of course he never wanted me to have one in the first place so there's that too."
"What kind of pet was this?" King asked, genuinely confused. "Like how dangerous are the animals in this world anyway?"
"Well let's just say that what you saw in the forest wasn't too unusual," Anne said.
"Wow, and I thought my home was dangerous," King joked, then noticed that Luz was nearby. "Hey look who's up."
Anne turned her attention to Luz, immediately getting up to check on the magical girl, "Luz! You're awake! How do you feel?"
"I still feel some discomfort but I'm fine," Luz said.
"Glad you're still kicking there kid," Eda said, walking over alongside Hop Pop and Polly. "That was quite the zap you took."
"Yeah, now the portal's gone, looks like we'll be stuck here for a while," Luz said. "Sorry I dragged you and King into this."
"These things happen, I mean this is definitely a first for me but I've been in my share of unusual situations," Eda said. "Seriously, don't beat yourself up over this, it could be worse. At least we're with a nice frog family and not stuck in some baron wasteland."
"Plus this is a really nice town once you get used to it, folks are really friendly around here," Anne said.
"And if you end up hating it, that's alright, because soon we're going back to Newtopia!" Sprig said.
"Huh? Newtopia?" Luz asked, scratching her head in confusion.
"It's the crown city of Amphibia where King Andrias lives," Anne said.
"A King?" Luz asked, her imagination running wild. "Uh, this king is friendly right?"
"Oh yeah, totally, he's such a lovable guy, I think you'd like him too," Anne said.
"Hey anything is probably better than Emperor Belos," King said.
"Who's that?" Sprig asked.
"Terrible person with scary magic, he wants to take over the human realm for his own selfish desires," Luz explained.
"Some evil Emperor is trying to take over Earth?" Anne asked. "Well, that's not good, it'd be lame to go back home and end up under some creep's rule."
"Don't worry, he has no way of getting to Earth," Eda said. "The only known portal is destroyed."
"That's why I had to make my own, which led me to here instead, so I still have a lot of work to do," Luz said.
"And that's why the King can help, we can use the Calamity Box to find our way back home," Anne said. "We just gotta prep it up and boom! Instant home return."
"That sounds neat, but I still need to find a way to The Boiling Isles," Luz said. "Eda and King still need to get back home too after all."
"So we need to open two different dimensions now?" Polly asked. "We can barely get one open, how are we gonna open two?"
"Polly!" Sprig scolded.
"Hey I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just being honest," Polly said. "Going in all blind and thinking everything will be fine because, 'Positive Vibes' is just a dumb way of going about this. Sorry to say, but getting either Anne or Luz back home is not gonna be a piece of cake"
"I kind of have to agree with the little gal here, realistically speaking this is going to be a workload, and it'd be foolish to believe things will go smoothly" Eda said.
"But maybe it will be easier this time," Anne said. "With our knowledge plus your magic, we can figure things out for everyone to make it home safe and sound. The sooner I get home the better, my mom and dad are probably really worried about me."
"Same with my mom, I haven't been able to contact her much lately, my phone's busted and cell service has gotten worse," Luz said.
"Wait, were you able to contact her at all where you were?" Anne asked.
"Yeah, my phone had good service for a while," Luz said, pulling her cracked phone out. "Now I can't even send a text or call my mom."
"Lucky..." Anne brought her phone out. "I get no service here, but I still get internet, good for binging to pass the time."
Luz's eyes lit up when she saw Anne's cat themed phone, "Oh my God! Your phone is super cute!"
"Oh thanks, your phone's nice as well, even though it's cracked," Anne said.
"But your phone has little cat ears, I love cats, check it!" Luz pulled her hoodie up to reveal her cat ears.
"That...is so adorable!" Anne geeked out, aweing over Luz's cat ears. "I so want something like that! Unfortunately, I have like no allowance and if I wanted something, I usually had to earn it."
"My mom's like that sometimes too, but I make due," Luz said. "I mean manga isn't going to buy itself."
"You like manga!?" Anne asked. "So do I!"
"Oh thank goodness, I have almost no one to talk to about it! I don't have a lot of friends in school," Luz said. "Everyone thinks I'm kind of strange."
"You? Strange? Pfft," Anne brushed that notion off. "Hardly, I mean I know I just met you but I can tell you're a fun girl. I mean who wouldn't want to be friends with you?"
"I can vouch, she's pretty fun to hang out with," King said. "Even if she's a bit eccentric."
"Oh you love that about me," Luz teased, then focused back on Anne. "I bet you have a lot of friends, you seem so cool."
"I am pretty cool," Anne boasted, flexing her muscle, or lack there of. "But I keep my friend circle in at the low. I mean right now it's me, Sprig and Polly, but back on Earth it was me, Sasha and Marcy."
"If you can call Sasha a friend," Sprig bitterly stated, Anne cringing a bit.
"Well, I guess Sasha is in a bit of a middle area right now," Anne reluctantly admitted.
"Oh, is this that best friend you said you had a sword fight with?" Eda asked.
"You were in a sword fight with your friend!?" Luz asked in disbelief.
Anne nodded as she sheepishly turned away, "Yeah, it was super awkward."
"What happened? I mean, how did you and your friend end up in a situation like that?" Luz asked.
"I'd like to hear this myself; I'm almost amazed a skinny little girl like you can even use a sword," Eda said, earning a glare from Anne, reminding her about Anne's lack of appreciation towards the skinny remarks. "Uh, no offense."
"Saying 'no offense' doesn't make someone feel less offended," Anne pointed out, Eda shrugging it off. "But truthfully, I don't even know how I was able to pull off a sword fight, I barely had any training while Sasha trained with an army general."
"She trained with an army?" Luz asked. "Like, how did that even happen?"
"Maybe you should start at the beginning, like how did you and this friend of yours end up in this world?" King asked.
"Well, it all started when she convinced me to shoplift some music box from an antique store," Anne began.
"Whoa, hold on, you shop lifted!?" Luz asked.
"I know, it's terrible, and I hated doing it but, I was worried Sasha would be mad at me if I didn't," Anne begrudgingly admitted.
"What kind of friend would be mad at something like that!?" Luz shouted, causing Anne to flinch. "Sorry, didn't mean to shout, I'm just appalled."
"I don't blame you, it's hard to admit but Sasha really isn't the nicest person," Anne said. "I mean, she has been a good friend on occasion, but there are times where she can be a bit...unreasonable."
"That's putting it nicely," Polly said.
"Yeah, pretty much sugarcoating it," Sprig said.
"Alright kids, that's enough, don't make this harder for Anne than it needs to be," Hop Pop said.
"The point is that once we opened that box, me, her and our friend Marcy got transported to this world," Anne explained. "That's when the Plantars took me in and gave me a home, while Sasha ended up with the Toad Army and Marcy ended up in Newtopia."
"So, you ended up in your world because of some magic box?" Luz asked. "All I did was walk through a magic door; my entry wasn't as exciting by comparison."
"At least yours was simple," Anne said.
"Wait, that portal Eda said was destroyed, what is the door?" Sprig asked.
"Yes, I was the one who destroyed it so that Emperor didn't use it to invade the Human Realm," Luz said.
"That sounds like a close call," Anne said. "But wow, a simple door, how did you even come across it?"
"I was on my way to a summer camp that my mom wanted me to attend to 'normalize' me," Luz said.
"Normalize?" Anne asked. "What's there to normalize?"
"Well for starters, I've been told that I can be a bit weird, and I do get a little overexcited and carried away on occasion," Luz said.
"She's just full of energy, apparently her human school couldn't handle a little fun chaos," Eda said.
"So, you were an outcast?" Anne asked.
"Kind of, I didn't have a lot of friends growing up, actually I didn't have friends at all," Luz said.
Anne looked disheartened hearing that, despite her struggles, she was relieved to at least have a friendship circle, better than being alone. "I'm sorry to hear that."
"It's fine, I mean it doesn't bother me much, but it can be a bit disheartening to know your classmates think you're so unusual, just because you can do things like this," Luz demonstrated by putting her eyelids inside out.
Anne looked a bit disgusted for a brief second, "Wow that's...actually it's kind of cool. Super gross but cool."
"Aw, thanks," Luz said, blinking her eyes back to normal.
"Still, seems kind of excessive to send you away to a summer camp over that," Anne said.
"I also may have accidentally let snakes loose in my school too, and spiders on one occasion," Luz awkwardly admitted.
"...Yeah that's crossing the line," Anne said.
"I know how you feel Luz, I've had frogs tell me that I'm irresponsible too, all over a little property damage," Sprig said.
"Pfft, a little?" Hop Pop said. "Keeping an eye on you was a full-time job, thankfully being around Anne has helped you...lessen your destructive capabilities. Of course there are occasions when it's twice as worse but we're evening out that balance."
"My point is, you're not alone Luz, and we would never judge anyone for their so-called weirdness," Sprig said.
"At least it paid off, when I went through the door, I met Eda," Luz said. "She took me into her home and we went on our first big adventure almost immediately."
"To get my crown," King clarified.
"Yes, and it was fun, but a little traumatizing," Luz said.
"Oh yeah, I've got loads of trauma, thankfully my youthful energy will keep all suppressed until I'm an adult, which is when I'm gonna need a lot of therapy," Anne said, nervously laughing before lamenting that possibility. Even Luz felt a bit awkward from that exchange, wondering if that could happen to her as well.
"Well scary as it's been, I wouldn't trade it away for anything, I made a lot of great friends out in the Boiling Isles, like Gus, Willow...and Amity," Luz said, feeling a bit flustered.
"You alright? Your face is turning red," Anne said, snapping Luz out of it.
"Sorry, anyway I don't feel as alone as I used to, and I got to feel like the main character from my favorite book, 'The Good Witch, Azura'," Luz said.
"Well good for you Luz, I'm glad you made some friends, good ones too," Anne said. "I trust that they're good friends."
"Oh definitely, they're the best. I mean I struggled a bit with Amity but we're cool now," Luz said.
"Did this Amity girl find you weird too?" Anne asked.
"Well, yeah, mostly since I was a human," Luz said.
"Discriminatory!" Sprig shouted in disapproval.
"Dude, you freaked out the first time you saw me," Anne reminded, Sprig feeling awkward.
"Well, yeah, not my proudest moment," Sprig said.
"I don't blame her too much, humans were kind of new, and thought to be inferior," Luz said. "It really didn't help that she's tried to kill me on occasion."
"So, we're opposites in a way, you started off with an enemy that became a friend, and I started off with a friend whose kind of my enemy," Anne said. "I mean, I'm hoping we can resolve things, me and Sasha I mean."
"How exactly did you make friends with this Sasha girl?" Luz asked.
"Marcy and I met her when we were kids, she protected us from a couple of bullies, pretty badly but she tried," Anne said. "Sasha was really nice once, but she's gone through some hard times of her own lately, I mean before we got warped here. She just started to change for the worst."
"Even so, making you shoplift is just terrible," Luz said. "Couldn't you have told her 'no'?"
"I tried to, but she got angry, and it made me nervous," Anne said. "I mean she was really nice to me that day, she celebrated my birthday with me but-"
"Hold on, your birthday?" Luz asked, getting even more frustrated. "She made you do something like that on your birthday!?"
"This is getting good," Eda said, watching on like if this was a soap opera, wishing she had popcorn.
"Anne, that's terrible! I...I don't even know this girl and I already can't stand her," Luz said, just imagining what she would do to Sasha.
"Please don't judge her too much, she means well, she's just a little screwed up due to some homelife troubles," Anne explained. "I won't get into detail, but she really did have a good heart."
"You're being too nice Anne, but you're a sweet girl so I don't blame you for seeing the good in others," Luz said. "And you do know her better than I do, so maybe I'm missing something. Still though, it just bothers me that all this happened to you. I would never treat a friend like that."
"This really puts the whole friendship thing into question," Polly said. "I mean what's worse? Having terrible friends who take advantage of you, or not having friends at all?"
"Wow, mind blowing," King said.
"Nothing for Anne to worry about, because now the two of us are gonna be friends, and I promise to be the best friend I can be," Luz said.
"Aw, thanks. I mean, my situation isn't bad, Marcy is nice too, but she does side with Sasha a lot, not out of maliciousness, she just thinks Sasha knows best," Anne said.
"Well then it's good that you have me, I'll help you and your friend Marcy assert yourselves, I mean a swordfight is an ok start, but maybe stick to being more verbal," Luz said.
"Right, and as your new friend, I promise I will not start out this friendship by trying to kill you," Anne said.
"Works for me, now I believe the two of us were planning a sleepover," Luz said.
"Oh right, we never got permission," Anne said.
"Hey it's fine with me, we got nowhere to go anyway," Eda said. "Of course final word goes to Mr. Plantar here."
"Mr. Plantar was my father's name," Hop Pop said. "Call me Hopediah, and of course you, Luz and your pet are welcome here."
"My name's King!" the little demon corrected. "And I'm not a pet!"
"This is awesome! I have so many sleepover games we can play, I'll show you some of the things I used to do with Sasha and Marcy!" Anne said.
"Well Anne, before you think about the nighttime, why don't you show Luz around town? Seeing that she'll be staying here a while, she should get used to being in Wartwood," Hop Pop said.
"Great idea, there's some pretty neat places in town, let me show you!" Anne said.
"Lead the way Anne," Luz said, following Anne outside the front door.
"You think she'll be alright; I mean how do the frogs in town feel about humans?" Eda asked.
"If this was a few months ago, I'd be worried, I remember not allowing Anne outside the house out of fear that the villagers would hate her," Hop Pop said. "But they've gotten used to Anne, and Marcy for that matter, so I think Luz should be alright."
"But maybe we should go with them, besides there's stuff I want to show Luz as well," Sprig said. "You coming King?"
"Sure, why not," King said, hopping off the couch. "Let's go meet some frogs."
"Sounds great, I can introduce you to my girlfriend and my former fiancé," Sprig said.
"You have a girlfriend? And you were engaged?" King asked.
"Oh, it's a long story," Sprig said, escorting King outside. "I'd be happy to tell you everything."
"And I'd be happy to debunk any of Sprig's exaggerations," Polly said, happily following after the two.
"You got some nice grandkids Hopediah," Eda said.
"Yeah, they're pretty great, pain in the neck sometimes but that's normal when it comes to family," Hop Pop said.
"I get that, felt the same way about my sister on occasion, we were best friends growing up but even we bickered from time to time, some days were worse than others," Eda said.
"Well you can make yourself at home too, I just need to figure out living arrangements," Hop Pop said. "Since Luz and Anne get along so well, they can bunk together in the basement."
"That works for me, and King can sleep pretty much anywhere so he's covered too," Eda said. "Question now is, where do I sleep?"
"Well I could offer you my bed, I don't mind sleeping on the couch," Hop Pop said, trying to sound suave.
"Works for me," Eda replied without a second thought. "Now, what have you got to drink in this world? You wouldn't happen to have any Apple Blood would you?"
"Apple what now?" Hop Pop asked.
Outside Anne is showing Luz around Wart Wood, pointing to every interesting location she could think off, "There's the spa I was talking about earlier, the frogs there are total professionals. Sprig, Polly and I love going there."
"A spa day would be nice, maybe King would like one too," Luz said.
"He might, ooh! There's Stumpy's diner!" Anne said. "We're going to be having dinner from there later."
"What type of food does he serve?" Luz asked.
"Mostly frog food, and I found it gross so I helped him turn it into a Thai-Frog fusion diner," Anne said. "Have you had Thai food?"
"Sometimes, usually I eat whatever my mom cooks, and most of her recipes are Dominican," Luz explained. "Cool that you got Thai food here."
"My parents own a Thai restaurant called Thai Go, I may take it over someday, just with my own little flare," Anne said. "I probably won't do the Frog Fusion thing though; I don't think humans are ready for that intensity."
"Is the frog food good?" Luz asked.
"Well, not really, but when you're stuck in a world like this, you'll eat anything that's edible," Anne said. "But there's some genuinely good stuff, I've even gotten used to eating bugs."
"Well I'm in a similar boat so I don't blame you," Luz said. "I'm amazed your parents own a restaurant; it hope it's successful."
"It is, what about your parents?" Anne asked.
"My mom's a veterinarian," Luz said. "It's cool because sometimes I get to see such cute little dogs and cats, or any pet someone brings in."
"That sounds neat, what about your dad?" Anne asked. Suddenly Luz went silent, her cheerful demeanor deflating, Anne getting an idea of what may have happened. "Oh boy, did I say something stupid?"
"N-no! Of course not, it's an honest question," Luz said. "It's just a touchy subject for me."
"Oh, sorry for asking, I shouldn't have assumed that it'd be alright," Anne said.
"You didn't, I mean...let's just move on, I still want to hear more about this place," Luz said.
"Well, there's a bakery here too," Anne said. "It's pretty good, perfectly edible for humans. Plus you can see that frog girl Sprig thought you should meet."
"Speaking of Sprig," Luz turned back. "Looks like we left without him."
"It's fine, he's probably showing around that little demon guy you were with," Anne said. "Or, not a demon, he seemed pretty confused."
"We all are, we're hoping to help King remember who he is," Luz said. "He's been trying to find his father, until then he's got us to be there for him."
"Friendship prevails!" Anne said. "Well let's hurry to that bakery."
As the two teen girls went off, Sprig and Polly were showing King around, "And that's where I crashed the cart into that one winter, and boy was every frog there mad."
"He crashes things a lot, it got really annoying and put us in a lot of debt," Polly said.
"Just hearing the word debt is worrying, Eda's super behind on bills," King said. "I mean excluding her, she has four other mouths to feed, and Luz is a bit harder to feed than me, Hooty and Lilith."
"Who are Hooty and Lilith?" Sprig asked.
"Lilith is Eda's sister, Hooty is the owl that lives at our house, hence why it's called 'The Owl House'," King explained.
"Such a cool sounding name," Sprig said. "So when did you meet Eda?"
Before King could answer, a loud voice came calling from nearby, "Ambush!"
"Oh boy," Sprig knew what would happen before it did, at that moment Ivy Sundew had landed on top of Sprig, holding his arms down in triumph. "I win again!"
"Yeah, you totally do," Sprig said as Ivy got off.
"Well I'm glad I ran into you, there's something that I want to..." Ivy looked ahead and spotted King, the two eyeing each other a second before both leapt into a fighting position. "Who are you!?"
"I can ask the same!" King said, gesturing Polly behind him. "Stay back Polly, I'll keep you safe from this random frog girl!"
"First off, I don't need protecting," Polly said. "Second, don't worry about Ivy, she's a friend."
"A friend?" King looked to Sprig, who was still standing up. "What kind of friend ambushes another?"
"It's kind of our thing," Sprig said. "Ivy, you can relax now, King's cool."
"King?" Ivy turned to the little titan. "You're a King? Or is that your name?"
"A little of both, I'll spare you the details," King said. "So, you're one of Sprig's friends?"
"Name's Ivy Sundew," the girl said, extending her hand in friendship. "If Sprig says you're cool, then you probably are."
"Uh...if I shake your hand, do I have any reassurance that you won't try to flip me over?" King asked.
"Can't say you do," Ivy suspiciously stated.
"Ivy, please don't flip him, we're trying to make him feel at home," Sprig said.
"Fine, I won't flip you," Ivy said as King hesitantly took her hand. "This time at least."
King quickly pulled away, barely trusting this girl, "So, you're Sprig's friend?"
"Technically I'm his girlfriend," Ivy said.
"Wait, you're the girlfriend he mentioned?" King asked. "You have quite an unusual way of greeting your boyfriend."
"It's how I show affection, right Sprig?" Ivy asked, then planted a kiss on his cheek, leaving Sprig lovestruck.
"Totally," Sprig said, hearts in his eyes.
King bent down to Polly, "Is this a normal frog thing?"
"No, Sprig and Ivy are just an abnormal couple," Polly explained.
"Good thing I'm used to abnormal," King said, then focused back on the couple. "Well, it's nice to formally meet you, I'm new around these parts."
"He got transported here like Anne did, along with two other friends," Sprig explained.
"Did it have to do with some big explosion I saw a while back?" Ivy asked.
"Probably, see some human girl named Luz tried creating a portal to go back to Earth, and she somehow ended up here," Sprig said.
"Another human girl? That's like the fourth one right?" Ivy asked. "Wonder if this is an omen?"
"Maybe, but Luz is really nice, just like Anne and Marcy," Sprig said. "I think you'd like her."
"What about this guy here?" Ivy asked, gesturing to King.
"Well his name is King, he's a demon of sorts," Sprig said.
"I'm native to the Boiling Isles, which is where that portal originated from," King explained.
"He and Luz came with a cool lady named Eda, she's an actual witch!" Polly said.
"A witch? Like that girl Sprig used to date?" Ivy asked.
"We never actually dated, we were just engaged," Sprig said.
"How did that even work exactly?" King asked.
"Hop Pop needed some dough, so he offered for me to marry the baker's daughter in exchange," Sprig explained.
King cocked his head in confusion, "You got engaged to some girl for dough? At least you got out of it."
"Wasn't too hard, of course Hop Pop tried this twice already, so I wouldn't be surprised if it happened a third time," Sprig said.
"Twice!?" King asked.
"Believe it or not, I was the second attempt," Ivy said. "Of course, that's not why Sprig and I are dating, it was still our own choice, but if it were up to my mom and Sprig's grandpa, we would probably be married right now."
"Hop Pop really wanted me to inherit the Sundew Family Business," Sprig said.
"Your family's a bit of a mess," King said. "I'd hate to have my marriage arranged, really hoping Eda doesn't get any funny ideas like that for me."
"It's fine, I had a nice talk with Hop Pop about it and I don't think he'll try marrying me off again," Sprig said. "I mean who's left anyway?"
"Doesn't Anne's family have a nice business?" Polly teased.
"Ew Polly, I like Anne but she's still a human, besides she's more like an older sister anyway," Sprig said.
"I've seen weirder back home honestly," King said. "But I'm with you, guys like you and me are better off not getting with humans like Anne or Luz."
"Anne's too pretty for you anyway Sprig," Polly joked.
"Haha, real funny, just wait til we're broke again Polly, see if Hop Pop doesn't try setting you up with someone," Sprig said.
"Maybe you can get with King here," Ivy teased.
"Hey me and Eda are broke too, so that would be kind of pointless," King said.
"And he's not even my type," Polly added, getting a slight glare from King.
"Gee, thanks for the confidence boost, now can we move on from this, it's just getting weirder," King said.
"Not bad for an ice breaker though," Ivy said. "So King, what do you think of sparring?"
"Sparring? Like fight training?" King asked. "I mean, it's alright I guess."
"Cool, so what about random sneak attacks?" Ivy asked.
"Excuse me?" King asked.
"Ivy likes sneak attacks, she says it really raises awareness," Sprig said.
"Uh, I don't know how I would feel about something like that," King said.
"It's fun, Sprig likes it, don't ya Spring?" Ivy asked, almost rhetorically.
"Sure, once you get past the paranoia of always looking over your shoulder, it's great!" Sprig said.
"Uh-huh..." King said, feeling weirded out. "So, is there any place else of interest here?"
"Well we could go to Mr. Loggle's store, he makes wood carvings," Sprig said.
"He's a bit weird though," Polly said.
"And fun, come on," Ivy said, leading the way.
"Oh, is she going with us then?" King asked.
"Yeah, guess so, which is fine, I do miss being around by GF after all," Sprig said. "What about you? Got your eye on someone?"
"Not yet," King replied.
"Hurry up!" Ivy called.
"Oh, better get a move on, Ivy does not like to wait," Sprig said.
"I would prefer to keep her in my sights, so let's pick it up," King said, focused on Ivy as he and the Plantar siblings followed closely as well.
With Luz and Anne, the two had passed by the Flour Bakery where they were told of Maddie's location, the frog girl had gone to the woods to for some more spell practicing. As expected, she was deep in the shadowy part working on a concoction.
"Alright, just need the black feathers, some of those poisonous mushrooms from near the river..." Maddie looked ar her list to find the last ingredient. "Ugh, shed skin from a reptile? That's gonna take forever to find."
"Hey Maddie!" Called Anne, getting the girl's attention.
"Anne?" To her surprise, Anne was on her way with a human girl she did not recognize. "Another friend of yours?"
"This is Luz, she's new," Anne introduced, then turned to Luz. "This is Maddie, she's the spellcaster."
"Wow, a Frog Witch!? So cool!" Luz said, kneeling beside her boiling concoction. "And you have a cauldron! You're the real deal!"
"Sure am," Maddie boasted. "So, you're fascinated with witchcraft new girl?"
"Oh, my name's Luz, and you bet I'm fascinated! This looks like some of the stuff my friend Eda makes," Luz said. "What type of potion are you making? The ability to fly? Turn invisible? Breath fire!?"
"It's just basic gardening, my dad wants the shop to look a bit prettier," Maddie said.
"Aw, that's really nice of you," Anne said. "Maybe Luz can help, she knows how to make plants grow."
"Is she a gardener?" Maddie asked.
"Better," Anne turned to her new friend. "Show her Luz."
The young witch in training pulled out a glyph and used it to sprout some flowers on the ground, much to Maddie's amazement.
"Whoa! How'd you do that!?" Maddie asked, checking over the flowers. They were indeed legit, and not a cheap trick.
"I used a glyph," Luz said, showing her some pieces of paper. "I draw a symbol and I make it happen. It's pretty minor stuff but it helps bring me one step closer to my goal of being a witch."
"Wow, you're not just a fan of witchcraft, you're part of it!" Maddie said. "Oh, is there any way you could teach me how to do that?"
"Sure, I already have other students, plus teaching can be fun," Luz said. "Anne, I could teach you as well."
"Thanks, but I'll stick to my racket fighting," Anne said. "Magic just isn't for me."
"Well everyone has their strengths, that's why RPGs have different classes, not everyone can be a mage," Luz said.
"Yeah, I fancy myself as the brave swordsman, who can do a bunch of neat tricks," Anne said, grabbing her racket and simulating mock moves. "My combos would be God-Tier!"
"I literally have no idea what you're both talking about right now," Maddie said. "But if Anne doesn't want to take part of this, that's fine, more for me. Oh, and Marcy too, if she's interested."
"Oh yeah, can't wait for you to meet Marcy, I know you and her will get along great Luz," Anne said.
"Marcy's the nice friend, right?" Luz asked.
"She is, nothing like that other friend of hers, Sasha I think it was," Maddie said. "She tried enslaving this entire village with the Toad army!"
Luz cautiously turned to Anne, "And you're absolutely sure this girl's 'good at heart'?"
"Eh...I mean I'd like to think so, I guess it's more of an 'I hope' rather than anything concrete, but I've known Sasha a long time and I just can't turn against her now," Anne said.
"Anne's great, but way too soft," Maddie said. "Here's some advice, watch yourself."
"I'm used to looking over my shoulder, back at the Boiling Isles, you could never be too careful," Luz said.
"The Boiling Isles? What's that?" Maddie asked.
"It's a land full of enchantment and wonder, and some really freaky stuff," Luz said. "You'll find a lot of witches there, it's pretty amazing."
"A whole Island of witches?" Maddie asked, her eyes bedazzled in wonder. "Oh, it would be a dream come true if I could go there."
"I'd love to take you, but I'm stranded until I can make another portal," Luz said.
"Hey if it's magic you need help with, then I'm game," Maddie said.
"Aw, you two found a kinship," Anne said. "Hey Maddie, I'm still showing Luz around, you could join us if you'd like."
"My pleasure," Maddie said, then remembered something. "Oh, but I have that concoction to make."
"Oh, maybe Anne and I can help," Luz said.
"I'm almost done, so I can just catch up with you two later," Maddie said.
"Luz and I are probably gonna hit the spa," Anne said, then remembered. "Oh wait, you need money for the spa, hold on." Anne checked her wallet for her allowance of Wartwood currency. "Alright, spa's out, we'll find something else to do."
"Hey you're a town hero, you might get a discount," Maddie said.
"Oh yeah, I am a hero," Annne said. "Buuuuuut, something tells me I should use that title responsibly and not use it to get a free spa day. But I am showing a friend around so..."
"It's fine, you don't need to force a spa day on my behalf, you're already taking me in, I couldn't ask for more," Luz said. Of course she desperately wanted some spa time, good way to relieve all the stress she's endured the last few months.
"Well, maybe we can work something out, let's go," Anne said, leading Luz toward the spa area.
Meanwhile on the Boiling Isles, Lilith and Amity had made their way toward the Emperor's Coven, one of the most dangerous and threatening places they could be, given the lingering threat of Emperor Belos.
"Why are we here again?" Amity asked. "Last I checked, Belos lives here, and you not only did you betray his Coven, you aligned yourself with his enemies. If he spots you, who knows what he might do to you."
"I'm aware of the risk, but it's a chance I have to take," Lilith said. "This is the only other place that has the magic to take us to the human realm, if we don't do something then Luz, Eda and King will be stranded in the human realm."
"Isn't Belos struggling to get to the human realm himself though? What hope could we have?" Amity asked. "Did you even think this through?"
"Well, mostly," Lilith said.
"Mostly!? So you're just taking a chance on this?" Amity asked, somewhat frustrated. "I can't believe I let you talk me into this!"
"Keep your voice down, you'll alert the whole Coven," Lilith said. "Besides, don't you want to save Luz?" Lilith asked.
"Of course but be rational about this," Amity said. "We can't save them if we're caught, besides Luz is from the Human Realm, it's not like when she got stuck here. Eda's also very familiar with it from what I've heard. Let's just leave before we get caught and figure something out. Maybe we can brainstorm with Willow and Gus."
"Not yet, I just know we'll find something here, we just...hold on," Lilith brought Amity to a side pillar to let some guards pass by.
"Wait, can't you make us invisible?" Amity reminded.
Lilith's eyes widened in realization, "Yes, the Invisibility Glyph, it was a combination of other Glyphs, let's see if I can remember."
"Better make it fast," Amity said, gesturing to another problem. Lilith could see that Kikimora was walking down the hall, probably on errand or attending to her own deeds.
As she walked down the hall, she could have sworn she saw something move, to which she turned toward the direction Lilith and Amity were, the two doing their best not to move.
"If you're gonna make that glyph, do it now," Amity urgently whispered, hoping it was low enough to avoid Kikimora's hearing range.
"I'm working on it...what was it again? Light and something else..." Lilith was stressing, the panic nearly causing her to forget as Kikimora got closer.
Amity could tell things would get bad if Kikimora alerted the guards, she just might have to take a chance. Readying some magic, she was about to go out and do a desperate attack but just as she was, another voice was heard, one Luz for some reason thought was kind of annoying.
"Hey! Kiki," Came the voice of the Golden Guard, that being Hunter, the boy taking his helmet off.
"Don't call me 'Kiki'," the woman warned.
"Yeah, yeah, listen Emperor Belos needs you for something, I think he's got portal opened up, he needs some volunteers to test it and wants you and your guards to come by," Hunter explained.
"If that is what's required," Kikimora said, making her way to Belos's throne room, Hunter following after her.
"Portal..." Lilith said, peeking her head out. "Could it be?"
"There's no way Belos could have a portal to the Human Realm, could he?" Luz wondered.
"Only one way to find out," Lilith said, working on the glyphs she needed. "Alright, it's ready, now question, how long can you hold your breath?"
"Hold my what now?" Amity asked.
In Belos's chamber, the titan was close to finishing his portal, one unlike what Hunter or Kikimora have seen before. A large oval shape rift that clearly led to another dimension, leaving those around in awe.
"Did you finally reach that world Uncle?" Hunter asked.
"I have," Belos said, almost in amazement himself. "It hasn't changed much."
"What's the plan now Uncle?" Hunter asked. "Do we just...invade?"
"No, it is too soon, plus this portal won't hold long enough to send all our forces in, especially at this size," Belos said. "But there is something of worth on the other side, I caught a glimpse of it from a young lady who came by recently. She had fiery red hair, along with a yellow dress. I believe her name was Hekapoo."
"Hekapoo? That's such a dumb name," Hunter said.
"Regardless, she was quite an interesting woman, I managed to strike up a brief conversation with her," Belos said. "I was amazed when she brought up Mewni, a world I haven't heard of in decades. I asked if she would allow me to see her world, but she was too busy, plus I got the feeling she grew mistrustful of me, what a shame. What caught my eye was the fact that she had these magical scissors that seemed to open rifts to any dimension. That is how I knew I needed to go to Mewni, to revive Toffee's army and use them as my own while I invaded the Human Realm. Come to think of it, perhaps we'll take Mewni too, couldn't hurt to have a bit more room after all."
"Wow, that's a pretty amazing plan uncle, so should we just go through?" Hunter asked.
"I would suggest you do, the portal won't stay open much longer," Belos said.
Suddenly Lilith and Amity had appeared in the room, catching everyone by surprise as the two took a moment to catch their breath.
"That spell is not fun," Amity said.
"It's that Blight girl!" Hunter said.
"Back off!" Amity used her magic to grab Hunter and toss him toward Kikimora as Lilith used a fire glyph at Belos, the Emperor quickly putting up a defense spell to protect himself.
"Hurry! Through the portal!" Lilith said, jumping through with Amity.
Hunter stood up in a daze after Amity's sneak attack, taking note of the two, "No!" He jumped through the portal as well, in pursuit of the duo.
Kikimora shook off her cobwebs, seeing the portal about to close. "No!"
"Hurry, return my Golden Guard and find me those scissors," Belos instructed.
"Yes sir!" Kikimora said, jumping through the portal as well, just before it closed.
Belos dusted himself off, mildly annoyed by what happened, "That was unfortunate, but only a minor setback. Plus it could work out well for me, no doubt Luz and the Owl Lady will be concerned for their friends, it may be a good opportunity for me to get 'reacquainted' with them."
On the other side, Amity and Lilith had arrived not too far away from a castle, both mildly confused but still on alert.
"Quick, just in case they follow us," Lilith said, the two ran just before Hunter and eventually Kikimora found their way through.
They kept going until they had stopped in front of a castle, the two taking their time to catch their breath. Running just after having to hold their breath for so long was not a pleasant feeling, both felt incredibly lightheaded.
"That was close," Amity said.
"Yeah, too close for comfort," Lilith said, looking up at the castle. "Where are we though?"
"I don't know, but it sounds like we aren't in the human realm," Amity said.
"You're not," Came the voice of a young girl. Standing nearby was the Princess of the land, looking very curious, standing beside a young boy.
"Wait, you're not humans then?" Amity asked.
"Oh I'm human," the boy said, offering his hand. "Name's Marco, you must be new here."
That didn't settle well with the young blonde girl, "Marco! Don't get friendly with them! They might be enemies!"
"They look lost Star, we gotta do something, plus they don't seem bad to me," Marco said.
"We're not, but bad people may be on the way," Lilith said. "Plus, we're in need of assistance too, I have to find my sister and some friends of mine."
Star looked a bit mistrusting, but she could tell these girls were genuinely lost and confused, and Marco did seem to trust them, might be him being naive but Star was confident that if they tried something, she could send them packing. "Alright, but I have my eye on you two."
"Thank you," Lilith said. "Let me introduce myself, I am Lilith Clawthorne."
"Name's Amity Blight," the girl beside them said. "The boy said his name is Marco."
"Marco Diaz to be exact, but just call me 'Marco'," the boy said.
"I'm Star," the girl said. "Star Butterfly, the Princess of Mewni. This is my mother's Kingdom."
With Hunter and Kikimora still around, both Amity and Lilith had to hurry and explain things, and hopefully find Luz, who was still in the world of Amphibia, unaware of what would happen once she encountered Anne's two closest friends, Sasha and Marcy. One thing was for sure, a reunion was still very far off.
