My Beast Evolution System

Chapter 17: 17. Discussion Between Aurora and Diana.

"You're stubborn. I'll give you that, but you're right, we'll go back," Diana agreed with a tired smile on her face. A part of her was still upset that they hadn't defeated the alpha yet.

Aaron smiled back but looked at Glimmer, who was nuzzling his hand. "That's right, we'll go back, but we'll need all the help we can get."

A few hours later, Aaron sat at the head of the dining hall's table while his sword rested against the wall behind him.

The atmosphere was tense because of what had happened earlier today. Diana leaned back in her chair in her usual pose, with her arms crossed, while Aurora busied herself with sorting the potions they would need on their next mission.

As for Luna, she sat beside Aaron. Her hands were clenched on her lap, and she had a worried look on her face.

She had heard about what had happened in the farmlands, and she was glad to see the three of them back in one piece, but she wasn't really happy with how they were eager to go back to the farmlands so soon.

"The alpha was strong, and it was smarter than the others," Aaron said as his voice broke through the silence in the room. "It was more coordinated and more dangerous than the others, so we can't face it head-on, not yet."

Diana arched an eyebrow. "Then, why didn't we finish it when we had the chance?" Diana was talking about when Glimmer had given them the chance to escape. Diana believed they could have used that chance to strike back and win if they had timed it right.

However, Aaron shot her a look. "Because we weren't ready, and you know it. If we had stayed, we would have all been killed."

Aurora nodded in agreement. "He's right. We barely got out alive. If we had stayed, none of us would be here right now."

Luna hesitated before speaking. "Then, what's the plan? If that thing stays out there, the farmlands will never be safe."

Aaron drummed his fingers on the table, thinking about what they could do to stop the alpha, and then he spoke after considering what their next course of action should be. "We need to weaken it. We can draw out its minions and deal with them one by one, then when it's alone, we strike."

"And how do you plan to do that?" Diana asked.

"We use bait," Aaron replied simply. "We lure the smaller beasts out, and we take them down in waves. What do you think?" Aaron asked the girls, and Diana couldn't hide the small smile on her face as she replied. "That's bold; I like it."

Aurora and Luna agreed with the plan he had, and with that, the meeting came to an end, with everyone returning to their rooms to rest as much as they could before tomorrow's expedition.

But while everyone had returned to their rooms, Diana was currently standing in front of Aurora's bedroom. She knocked on the door, and Aurora's voice could be heard from the other side of the room as she called out.

"Come in."

Diana opened the door and noticed Aurora standing on the balcony of her room while staring at the twinkling stars.

"You called for me, Your Highness."

"Yes, I believe you know why you're here."

"It's about the baron's son, isn't it?"

"Yes, doesn't he seem kind of different to you?"

"Yes, he is. He's certainly different from the young boy who had been lackadaisical towards everything around him. Now, he seems more invested in trying to change the image the townsfolk have of him."

"I've noticed this as well, but do you believe that he's truly trying to change for the benefit of his barony?"

"I can't say for sure that it is his goal, but I can see that he has the mindset of a leader and a good strategist."

Aurora pondered over what Diana said, and she nodded in understanding before asking. "I understand, but what do you think about the fox that is always following him around?"

Diana's face turned into a frown the moment she heard Aurora's question. "To be honest, Your Highness, I never imagined that it would be possible to see anyone bond with a magical beast, but it seems like the Glimmerfox truly likes him."

"What's the story behind this mysterious bond between them?"

"He said the Glimmerfox was injured and that he saved her from the demonic beasts that were trying to hurt her."

"Is that possible? Can a magical beast really become friendly with anyone just because it was saved?"

"I don't know, and I can't be certain about this, but what if the baron's son is really able to tame beasts that no one else can?"

Aurora furrowed her brows and asked. "Do you think he can tame other beasts just like the Glimmerfox?"

"I do not know, but I've pondered about the possibility of him doing something like this in the future."

"If Aaron can truly do what you say, then that would lead to him having a lot of enemies in the future, both in this kingdom and others as well."

Diana nodded in agreement. "Your Highness is right, and I don't think the world will readily accept him if everyone knows that he's able to tame beasts."

"Anyways, for now, I want you to keep a close eye on him and how he's able to do the things he does."

Diana bowed her head before excusing herself from Aurora's bedroom.

The next evening, Aaron, Diana, and Aurora stood at the edge of the Farmlands. Aaron was carrying a small sack filled with raw meat; its scent was strong enough to attract not only demonic beasts but also any magical beasts within the surroundings.

"Are you sure this will work?" Aurora asked with a look of doubt on her face. The powerful smell of the meat was being carried around the forest, and she feared that their first encounter might be a magical beast instead of a demonic beast.

"It will," Aaron replied confidently. "Demonic beasts are driven by hunger, so they'll definitely come for this."

"Let's just hope they don't all come for us at once," Diana said as she unsheathed her sword.
