My Beast Evolution System

Chapter 3: 03. Knowing More About Myself And The World Around Me.

"Big brother, what's wrong, you aren't saying anything. Are you still hurt?" The little girl asked while she was still hugging him.

Aaron didn't really know what to say. He still had a lot of questions that he needed to ask and he still had no idea as to how he suddenly arrived in this strange world, but he couldn't deny how pleasing it was to have someone who truly cared about his well-being.

His smile widened even more and he patted her back once again. "It's okay, Luna. I'm not hurt anymore," He replied and the little girl pulled back a bit to look at his face.

"Really? Are you sure?"

"Yep, as you can see, your big brother is totally fine," Aaron had a big smile on his face as he spread his arms wide for his little sister to take a look at him.

Although Aaron might have said that, even he wasn't sure if that was entirely true.

The only thing on his mind right now was to know more about himself and the world he was currently in, but to do that, he had to make the little girl calm enough to speak to him.

Meanwhile, Luna wiped her tears away and looked at his arms and body. She noticed that he wasn't hurt anymore and she was happy to see this, but she was still worried about something that had happened before he got injured, so she asked with a worried look on her face.

"Big brother, are you going to abandon me like you did to Papa?"

"Huh?" Aaron was taken aback by her question and he asked in return. "Why would I abandon you?"

"Everyone said you abandoned Papa and the knights when the beasts came out of nowhere, is this true?"

Aaron was left speechless by what she said but he replied truthfully. "I-I don't know."

"You don't know?"

"Yes, I don't remember," He replied.

"Is it because you were asleep for three days?"

"Huh? I was asleep for three days?"

"Yes, and I was worried you weren't going to wake up, but…"

"I'm fine now, Luna," Aaron assured her and placed his hands on her shoulders. "Tell me, Luna, do you know what happened before I got injured?"

Luna's expression darkened when he asked her that question. At first, she hesitated to tell him what he wanted to hear, but she replied nonetheless. "When a few injured knights appeared in town, the townsfolk said the beast came out of nowhere, destroying everything in their path. There were so many of them, but Papa, along with his knights, fought to protect us. But in the end, they… they all…" Luna's hands began to tremble when she recalled that their father was no longer with them.

Aaron noticed her trembling hands, so he placed his hands on hers. "It's okay, Luna, you don't have to say anything else," He tried to calm the little girl down but Luna hugged him tightly once again.

The two remained that way for a few more minutes and the moment she finally calmed down, Aaron tried to find out more about himself and the town he was in.

While listening to Luna, he was able to understand what had happened to the previous Aaron and his father.

It turned out that his father had wanted them to visit the farmlands of his barony which was close to the capital town.

Of all the locations in his father's territory, the capital town and the farmlands were the only locations that hadn't been completely overrun by demonic beasts yet, but Damien had requested for his son to accompany him to the farmlands with the hope of showing his son what it meant to be a Baron.

Even though the previous Aaron had been his son, Aaron had never shown any interest in learning anything about his father's territory, and neither had he been interested in becoming a Baron in the future.

His father had understood his reasons for feeling that way, but as his heir, he still wanted his son to be ready to lead the town.

On their way to the farmlands, Damien had wanted his son to witness how he settled disputes between farmers, and how he addressed problems relating to the survival of everyone in his barony.

However, something unexpected occurred, and demonic beasts went on a rampage through the farmlands.

The beasts destroyed everything in sight. They attacked and killed every farmer and knight that they encountered, forcing everyone to fight back to save themselves and the land, but unlike everyone else, the previous Aaron had opted for a better option.

Why fight for a lost cause when you could easily run to the nearest, safest, town? And this was exactly what he did.

He mounted a horse and galloped straight for the nearest town, away from his dad's barony.

The beasts had been a lot, and even if the knights and farmers refused to admit it, everyone knew that the beasts, with their numbers, could easily overrun the forces of the barony. This was, therefore, the reason why the previous Aaron didn't want to be around when the beasts turned their attention to the capital.

The farmlands were nearly overrun and it would have only been a matter of time before the capital became their next target. He knew that if he left at that moment, he would have more than enough time to make it to the next town before news of what had happened in his current town reached the next town.

The farmers and knights noticed what he was doing, but many of them weren't really surprised when they saw him trying to flee.

Unlike Luna, who was a cheerful young girl whose infectious smile could melt hearts, the previous Aaron had always been a quiet, young noble who showed little to no interest in the things around him.

He barely spoke to anyone and he always had a look on his face that seemed like he was angry with everyone around him.

Damien noticed his son heading towards the nearest town but he also noticed that a couple of beasts were tailing Aaron as well, so he ordered a female knight to follow him.

He didn't want the knight to stop his son from leaving the town, he had simply wanted her to help his son clear his path. But before the knight could get to him, Aaron had already encountered a couple of demonic beasts who surrounded him.

Both the beasts in front of him and the ones behind him attacked at the same time, but the female knight arrived just in time to save him.

However, he had already been badly wounded by the time she got to him, so she'd had no other choice but to return the Baron's son to the mansion where the female with pointy ears could heal him.
