Chapter 7: Chapter 7: The Monke Finale
=-Day 345-=
I had been watching the giant orangutan for a few days and apart from eating its own kind, sitting on its fat rear and randomly roaring throughout the day, nothing else really happened. Sure, it would occasionally get up and hobble off to grab something to eat, which put my stealth to the test but it never strayed more than half an hour away from its home. It wasn't even hunting anything big.
I frowned at the thought as I sat on a branch, resting my back against the tree. 'That either means he's saving his strength… or he's losing it.'
"Mobile Inventory, what do you think?" I asked.
A low hiss came from my shoulder.
"What do you mean you don't know because you're a snake? Tch. So fucking helpful."
Sighing at its useless response, I jumped down from the branch and walked toward the clearing while humming a low tune. When I reached the edge overlooking the troop of monkeys, I took a deep breath and exhaled with a yell.
"You filthy, disgusting fat monkey!"
Silence fell over the clearing. Hundreds of eyes locked onto me, but one large burning gaze stood out as the orangutan roared and pointed at me while standing.
"HUMAN!"
I grinned as the smaller primates started rushing toward me. Raising my chipped iron sword above my left shoulder I swung with all my might. A compressed blade of air tore through them, cutting down a good number in an instant.
Without waiting to count how many truly fell I turned on my heel and bolted toward the traps I had set up. Behind me, the giant monkey roared in anger and I could hear the rustling of leaves and bushes as the remaining primates chased after me.
"I'll lead the bulk of them to the first set of traps. The stragglers can be ignored." I muttered to myself, pushing my body harder while making sure to keep enough energy in reserve for the real fight.
'Wonder what it'll taste like.' I mused.
I almost snorted at the thought, until the shadow around me suddenly darkened. Looking up I saw a massive tree plummeting toward me.
"Shit!"
I sidestepped just in time, narrowly avoiding the impact as it crashed into the ground with a loud boom.
I didn't stop running.
"Probably full of fat and worms." I muttered, smirking.
~Scene Change~
It had taken me a little over four hours to kill most of the primates before they finally broke and ran in fear. They were so terrified that even as the giant one eyed orangutan made its way toward me, they ignored it in favour of saving their own fur.
Now, I was sitting on a tree branch at eye level with the massive beast casually munching on a raw monkey arm. As I swallowed the piece of meat in my mouth the giant orangutan came to a stop, its single eye burning with visible hatred.
"Just us now, you fat fuck."
Instead of responding with words, it only growled before lowering itself and charging at me like the wild animal it was.
Grinning wider, I tossed the half eaten arm aside, stood up and gripped my iron sword before swinging it to my side. A compressed air blade sliced through the leaves and struck my intended target. A log, shaved to a point and tied by vines was swung toward the monkey.
It turned its head at the last second, hearing the wind being cut and leaped into the air just as the trap passed beneath it.
'I knew it would jump.'
Rolling my eyes at how predictable it was, I positioned my sword above my left shoulder like usual and released another larger compressed air blade. This time however, the orangutan raised its massive arms in defence. The blade cut into its skin but its thick fur absorbed most of the damage.
"That'll be annoying to deal with." I muttered just as it landed where I had been moments ago.
"RAHHH!"
I ducked as a massive, furry orange arm swung overhead, narrowly missing me. Kicking off the branch I sprinted deeper into the forest.
'Keep up the pace, wear it out then kill it.'
And that's exactly what I did, for another three hours.
Each time I reached a designated part of the forest, I would trigger a trap either causing a tree to crash toward the overgrown monkey or forcing it into the air where I could strike with another air blade. Bit by bit, I was wearing it down.
But now, we had reached the final stretch. My traps were no longer just falling logs or tripwires. No, these were something else entirely, deep pits I had spent days digging and filling with oil rendered from the giant spiders and frogs I had hunted.
"I'm losing steam." I admitted, frowning as I felt sweat pour down my face. The jungle's oppressive heat and the sheer effort of keeping a distance from an increasingly enraged orangutan were starting to catch up with me. My legs burned with strain. At first I could ignore it, but it was becoming increasingly clear that I couldn't keep this up forever.
'Almost there.'
That thought pushed me forward as I started spotting the markings I had left for myself, signalling the final trap.
I glanced up just in time to see a now oil soaked orangutan descending toward me. This time, I didn't fully escape the impact zone. Instead, I let the shockwave launch me across the trap, covering my head as I slammed into the ground and skipped like a rock across the dirt.
Then, with a final crack, I crashed into a tree.
I coughed, groaning as I forced myself up from the ground.
'Back hurts.'
I winced as a familiar pain flared up in my lower back, the same spot that had taken a beating during my first fight with the giant primate.
'Speaking of primates...'
The ground trembled beneath me, each step sending vibrations through the earth as the massive orangutan slowly approached. Its wide unsettling grin stretched across its face, a sight that would've made even the bravest in my old world drop dead from fright.
"Fuck, you're ugly." I commented.
The grin twisted into a deep frown. Then, with another earth shaking roar it charged, its massive arms raised to crush me.
I smiled wide but didn't move. Instead, I casually turned my head to the left and pointed.
"Look out."
The beast hesitated, leg muscles tensing as it instinctively glanced in the direction I indicated.
Nothing happened.
"Oh, man! I did it again!" I smacked my forehead in fake embarrassment, just as a log, sharpened to a deadly point came crashing through the tree I had been thrown against, hurtling straight toward the unsuspecting orangutan.
Its eyes widened in shock.
I grinned even wider, gripping my iron sword tight and raising it above my shoulder.
Its eyes widened even further as the log struck its weakest spot.
Pop.
I flinched slightly at the sound.
"RAAAH!"
The orangutan let out a bloodcurdling shriek of pure agony, its massive body lowering as it instinctively gripped the log now lodged between its legs.
'This is the moment!'
Without hesitation I pulled a flat stone from my pocket, a piece of flint. With a flick of my wrist I hurled it toward the oiled monkey, my iron sword already moving. As the stone spun through the air, I struck its surface with the blade creating a fleeting spark. It was dying out as it approached the orangutan and for a split second I thought it wouldn't catch.
But fortune smiled upon me.
Just before the spark faded, it reached the oil soaked primate igniting it instantly.
Flames erupted across its matted fur and the monkey shrieked thrashing wildly. Between the agony of losing its balls and now being set ablaze, it flailed in a desperate frenzy.
"Hahaha!" I laughed like a madman as I watched it burn, the firelight reflecting off my sweat covered skin. Pointing my worn sword at the giant beast, I shouted. "You set my house on fire and covered it in shit!"
The orangutan's screeches turned guttural, its body lowering onto its arms as the pain overwhelmed it. Its massive neck lay exposed, glistening with sweat and oil beneath the flickering flames.
I stepped forward, my grip tightening around the sword's hilt. As the creature tried to stand once more, instinctively seeking relief from the searing fire I locked eyes with it.
'Now.'
With every ounce of strength I had left, I swung.
With a roar of my own, I unleashed a compressed air blade. It sliced clean carved straight through its fat, unprotected neck.
My eyes widened in sheer exhilaration as I watched its head separate from its body.
Then, I realized the rest of it was about to crush me.
I rolled to the side just in time, dodging as the massive corpse crashed into the ground with a thunderous thud.
For a moment, I just lay there, panting, staring at the headless body of the giant fucking monkey I had just killed.
'I killed it...'
Slowly, the reality sank in.
"I killed it…"
I let out a breathless laugh, then another.
"I FUCKING KILLED IT! HAHAHA!"
I laughed until my sides hurt, the sheer adrenaline and euphoria washing over me. Mobile Inventory wrapped itself around my body, remaining silent as I revelled in my victory.
Eventually, my laughter died down.
And then, a new thought hit me.
"FUCK!"
I groaned as I realized the next problem, I wasted perfectly good fur.
*Ding!*
^System Alert!^ [King Louie has been killed! Reward: ? has been sent!]
I looked at the grey panel in my vision before waiting for something to appear in front of me however after a few minutes of waiting next to a burning body I needed to deal with nothing happened.
"Shitty fucking system."
