Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Monke Aftermath & The Quest
=-Day 349-=
"Fuck... No matter how much I wash, I can't get the smell out of my body!" I groaned, scrubbing my skin with a pelt until it turned red. I threw the pelt at Mobile Inventory which dodged and hissed at me before floating on the surface of the water. 'I shouldn't have used oil...'
Sighing, I looked over the bones and partially burnt fur I had collected from the giant monkey. It had taken me a full day to skin the monkey, then another six hours to separate what was usable from what wasn't. Unfortunately there was far less usable material than I'd hoped for. Although I wasn't sure exactly what I'd use the fur for I knew I'd try to make weapons from the bones, weapons that I'd use against that mutt.
"I won't be able to use the same strategy if it can use Haki." I mumbled grimly. I also knew I'd be relying on Mobile Inventory far more than I had during my fight with the monkey. I just hoped that my snake's Observation Haki was stronger than the mutt's.
'No way of knowing until it happens.'
Getting out of the water with Mobile Inventory slithering after me, I headed for the hut. Once I entered, I crossed out the area where the giant monkey had been, using a piece of charcoal.
'The system called it King Louie. Speaking of the system...'
"System, stats."

Nothing. Nothing was different from last time and I could feel myself losing it each time this happened.
"Why can't I level up?" It didn't make sense to me. I had killed what was probably considered a Boss, yet I gained absolutely nothing. I couldn't even see the reward it spoke of.
"System, claim any unclaimed rewards."
*Ding!*
^System Response!^
[For the Host to claim the unclaimed rewards, please complete the Quest: ?]
"System, when will I get this Quest? How do I get it?"
*Ding!*
^System Response!^
[Please standby!]
'That's new.' Raising an eyebrow, I walked to my crude bed and sat down as I waited for the system's response.
"Wonder if..."
*Ding!*
^System Alert!^
[Host, please select [Yes] or [No]. If you select [Yes], you will receive the Quest: ?. If you select [No], the System will be removed from the Host and the Host will be able to live a normal life in this wonderful world!]
My eyes locked onto the second part.
"What do you mean by 'normal life' in this world?"
*Ding!*
^System Response!^
[Normal Life: As the user has no Haki nor Heavenly Restriction, their best hope to live in this world is to be mundane!]
"My Heavenly Restriction will be removed if I say no?"
*Ding!*
^System Response!^
[That is correct! The Heavenly Restriction was gifted to the Host by the System. The Host will have no need for it if they live a normal life!]
'Normal means I won't have to fight to survive anymore...' I frowned.
"System if I say no, will I be taken to a safer part of the world, and will I die if the Heavenly Restriction is taken away?"
*Ding!*
^System Response!^
[Due to the Host no longer having any form of Haki, the Host will die without the Heavenly Restriction!]
"Fuck..." Groaning, I put my head in my hands. 'So it's just a forced Quest at this point.'
Sighing, I looked up and pressed [Yes]. A new panel appeared, the Quest panel.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
#Main Quest#
In the year 1518 a ship made its way to Turtle Island,
The Host must board the ship before they leave Turtle Island.
Failure to do so will result in death,
Reward to do so: Quest Rewards will be claimable.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
I blinked at the panel as I finished reading before groaning. "All I have to do is not die and hope that this place stays afloat? That's easy." Snorting at what was possibly one of the easiest Quests I'd gotten, I got up, put on a pair of pants and turned to the iron sword I had sitting by the door. It wasn't in the best condition even though I tried to maintain it with what I had. 'It'll hold up against that mutt.' I hummed at the thought before clicking my tongue and deciding to head toward the orangutan's home, where I had originally gotten the iron sword. "Time to be an explorer!" With that, I headed for the ruins.
=-Day 355-=
Searching for six days straight brought me back with barely anything to show for it, except a few things. The only things I had managed to find were other iron swords, identical to the one I already had. 'Better than nothing, at least.' I thought, looking at the six other worn swords before shrugging and walking away from them. I headed back to my hut, where I sat down at a crudely made desk and started reworking the plans for a boat in case the ship set to arrive didn't make it in time. "Though I think the System would've told me if the island was going to sink before they arrive." Sighing at my words, I continued working on the plans to keep myself distracted.
=-Day 358-=
Nothing much had happened in the past few days, other than noticing that a few groups of monkeys had triggered some of the traps I had set up, so I didn't need to hunt as often. It wasn't something I was terribly worried about as it just meant more food, but it was something I kept in mind. There was also an increase in predators lurking around the territory the orangutan had once claimed, and that was something I focused on more than the monkeys being morons.
=-Day 361-=
It was closing in on a year, and I could feel something slowly slipping away from my mind. I wasn't sure what it was, but I knew that Mobile Inventory though just a snake, was helping keep whatever it was from disappearing completely. 'Wonder what will happen if it does disappear?' I thought as I stood on the carcass of a giant snake, larger and longer than the giant orangutan. Sighing, I began the process of skinning and dissecting the parts I needed, while leaving the rest for the hungry creatures eyeing me from beyond the bushes.
"Hate doing this, Mobile Inventory." I received a hiss in response.
=-Day 365-=
*Ding!*
^System Alert!^
[Before Turtle Island sinks: 1517/1518]
"Just what I wanted to see. Thank you so much System." Rolling my eyes at the grey panel before casting it aside, I ground up dried leaves I had found, which had a similar taste to tobacco. At first, I had dismissed the idea of smoking them but then I thought it over and realized that my body was so much stronger than before, I doubted smoking would affect me. So, for four days after picking the leaves I dried them with a fire, making sure they wouldn't burn before letting them sit in a humid moist place. Afterward, I began grinding them into a fine consistency with two rocks. Once satisfied, I stopped grinding, placed the rock I was using aside and picked up the leaves I had collected alongside the tobacco to start rolling one.
=-=-=-=-=
'Seems good enough, Kai.' I remarked to myself as I held up what would be the first cigarette probably smoked on this living island. Sighing, I got up and walked to a fire where I had a bowl of blood calling my name. "Still gross." I mumbled to myself as I sat on a log, grabbed an ember from the fire and ignored the way it sizzled against my fingers before using it to light the cigarette on my lips. Breathing in, I felt the warmth as the cigarette lit then threw the ember back into the firepit and closed my eyes as I continued breathing in. 'Fuck, that feels good.' I let it sit in my lungs for a moment before breathing out slowly through my nose. Once the smoke was completely out, I picked up the bowl of blood and drank. I felt the pungent metallic taste hit my tongue before it went down my throat and I twitched at the flavour before ignoring it. I took the bowl from my lips and returned the cigarette to my mouth for another puff. 'Drinking the blood is better than drinking water for an occasion like this.'
Though it was something I wanted to do, I hadn't gotten around to making alcohol, and it was something I didn't think I'd be getting around to on this island, anyway.
"Well, I can at least enjoy this day, right, Mobile Inventory?" I heard a loud, familiar hiss from the black snake, floating near the water, and I snorted.
"Right you are, Mobile Inventory."
