My Own Dragon Girl

Chapter 10: Chapter 9: Have Faith

He approached Nori quickly as the others began to leave the room. "You must be the new prophet. A rare person to see nowadays, hopefully we get the chance to work together." The Man says.

Nori took a second before answering. "Yeah. I don't really know who you are exactly, but I'm sure it'll be an interesting time." Nori responds with a bit of confusion in his voice.

I didn't want him to know I was confused by his approach but it was impossible to hide from him. Something was off about this guy and I couldn't really figure out what it is.

"My nickname is Kotami. I'll be seeing you around, have faith in Chronos." Kotami says before walking off.

Rika seemed to be a little annoyed with the interaction that just occurred but Nori was more distracted on why the man told him to have faith.

I'm not sure why he would tell me to have faith in Chronos but I'll need to keep an eye on those guys for now. I know we'll see them quite often if we are working with them to deal with the monstrosities of the world.

Tug. Tug. Nori looks over to see Rika tugging on his shirt. "What's up?" Nori asks while trying not to show his nervous side again.

Keep cool, keep cool.

She had an annoyed expression on her face. "I don't like them very much. You should try to avoid direct contact with them as much as possible." Rika responds with a bit of concern in her voice.

She hasn't given me a reason not to trust her judgement on anything yet so I'll listen to her for the time being. Rika is the only one I've really been around since I first got here.

Maybe I'm being stupid for playing along with all this for now but I don't want the world to end. I just wish someone would've told me about this a bit sooner so I wouldn't be so surprised.

Fighting that creature still felt like some sort of dream or would it be considered a nightmare with the type of things I saw. All those people who died to it, is that really happening all around us?

"Nori?" Rika calls out with a bit of worry in her voice.

Nori shakes his head and then shifts his gaze back to her. "Yeah, just got caught up in my thoughts." Nori replies with a calm tone.

She still makes me nervous but I think I'm starting to get used to it now. I've always struggled with talking to girls, especially ones who might like me or at least ones who make it seem that way.

Staring at me like she does, it really does get to me a lot of the time. It's never a bad thing, just makes me nervous and I could feel my face getting red.

"Anything you want to share?" Rika asks while staring into Nori's eyes.

There she goes again with those eyes, staring right into mine. Does she actually care about me or is it just because I'm this prophet?

Prophets are basically extinct so maybe they only care because of that exact reasoning, maybe she only cares because of that exact reason.

Nori just shrugs before saying anything. "Not at the moment. We heading back for more training or what's next?" Nori asks with a bit of curiosity in his voice.

Before she can respond, Aki interrupts them. "I'm glad you both could be here for that, they are always a pain in the ass. But you seem like you are ready to get out there." Aki says while looking over at Nori.

"He's almost ready." Rika chimes in with a bit of frustration in her voice.

Aki turns his attention towards Rika. "What's bothering you?" Aki questions before waiting for her answer.

Yeah it is kind of odd that she's frustrated all of a sudden but I don't think it's that big of a deal for me to go out there more. I can't get used to things by just sitting around all the time.

Even if it's terrifying to think about, I need to fight more of those creatures.

"I don't want him just getting sent into danger when he barely made it out of the last fight." Rika speaks with care behind her words.

"He's a prophet, danger is always going to be present." Aki responds with a more serious tone in his voice.

I appreciate her concern for me but I don't really think it'll be something I can avoid forever. This tells me that her concern was real and not just because I'm a prophet right?

Surely that would make the most sense with the reactions she's having to everything right now.

"I get he's a prophet but that's not the point. I'll be going with him then, I don't want to watch another one die." Rika says with sadness in her voice.

Nori kind of walked away from the two of them while they continue to discuss everything for a bit longer.

I should probably figure out some goals for myself right? Something that helps me strive to be stronger and better than before.

I'm not entirely sure what goals I should have just yet but maybe understanding how my power works would be a good start. I used strength from it before to fight the creature I saw but it was more like raw power.

It wasn't channeled and I didn't use anything specific from it. It was said to me before that each prophet has a unique power or something special about them.

I'd love to know what my specialty is or what my power truly is since it could come in handy knowing what I can do. Would that require anything from Rika to figure it out or could I just do it myself?

"Nori you'll go with Rika like usual. She'll be leading any missions I have for you but for now focus on getting stronger." Aki says before leaving the room.

He was clearly annoyed with Rika, it didn't take a genius to figure it out but I'm glad they got to the end of that conversation.

Rika comes over to Nori and grabs his hand. "I just don't want to see something happen to you. You've got a bit of learning to do before you get sent all over the place." Rika speaks with care in her voice.

I hope to understand her eventually, even if it takes some time.

"Thank you Rika. We shouldn't waste any time then." Nori replies with a bit of enthusiasm in his voice.

If I act like I'm excited to do this, then at least it doesn't show my nervousness to her again. I'd rather her think of me as some badass, not some loser.

Fighting was never my strong suit to begin with so this will definitely take some time to get used to.

Rika took Nori back to the training room and began to show him more techniques to fight against the monsters or creatures, whatever is preferred. This went on for about a week before they finally got a mission to go on for the first time together.

Nori has been slowly improving over the course of this time but it's still not enough for him to fight high ranking enemies.

"You'll be fighting a B class Scout today, you have the location already Rika. Good luck." Aki says before he disappears.

I wonder where I am on the scale of power against these things. Actually I should've asked Rika what class the creature was that I fought against in that town.

It had to be decently high with the amount of damage it did but I don't really know much about them. I'm sure it'll take some time before I know what I'm talking about.

"You've beaten a B class creature before so you should be okay. I'll still be with you for this mission of course but I do need to let you handle most of the fighting." Rika says with a disappointed tone in her voice.

I guess she wanted to help with the fight instead of just letting me handle it all.

"I'll be okay, it shouldn't be that bad. You have been teaching me different techniques lately so I have a bit more confidence than before." Nori reassures her as he stretches.

I've been getting better with hiding my nervousness around her since I have been focused on getting better. After this I should finally have some goals in mind too.

"Well let's head to the location." Rika says while leading the way.

Maybe one day I'll be able to open up these portals that they use to get around. If things like portals and creatures exist, does magic exist too?

I don't know if that's what my power classifies as so that's why I'm a bit confused about it.

Nori followed Rika through a portal to a random town on the outskirts of Kyoto.
