Chapter 25: First Step Towards Strength
The sky was still painted in a deep shade of blue when Naruto felt something strange. A chilling shiver ran down his spine as he abruptly opened his eyes, only to find himself soaked to the bone. A bucket of icy water rested at his feet, and standing before him was Akane, arms crossed, a smug smile on her lips.
"Get up, Naruto. The sun's running late because of you," she teased with a hint of irony.
Naruto shivered as he scrambled to his feet. "But... it's still night!" he protested, his teeth chattering from the cold.
"Real ninjas don't rely on the hours of the day," she retorted, turning on her heel. "You wanted to get stronger, didn't you? Then move it."
Naruto groaned but had no choice. Minutes later, he found himself in the courtyard, the morning air sharp against his skin. The first rays of dawn began piercing the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange. A light mist rose above the surrounding fields, adding a mystical touch to the scene.
Akane stood at the center of the courtyard, waiting patiently for him to get in position. Ayame, meanwhile, watched from the porch, her expression neutral though a faint smile hinted at her amusement.
"Alright," Akane began, "your training will be divided into three parts. First, we'll work on your taijutsu and physical endurance. Next, we'll do practical exercises to improve your reflexes and combat intelligence. Finally, I'll introduce you to fuinjutsu. It'll be tough, and I won't tolerate any slacking. Understood?"
Naruto nodded firmly. "Understood!"
"Then start warming up. Stretches, push-ups, pull-ups. I want you hitting your limits right from the start."
Naruto got to work, beginning with stretches to loosen up his muscles, still stiff from sleep. Every movement seemed to amplify his lingering fatigue, but he gritted his teeth. He then moved on to a series of push-ups, the cold ground beneath his hands reinforcing his resolve.
Time seemed to stretch endlessly. After push-ups came pull-ups, followed by sprints across the courtyard. Naruto panted, sweat dripping from his brow, and his arms burned with each pull-up. Yet he continued, driven by a single thought: to grow stronger.
Akane stood in a corner, watching every move with a critical eye. She noted his mistakes, corrected his posture, and, most importantly, gave him no respite.
"Faster! If you're this slow, you'll be dead before you even draw a kunai!" she shouted as he struggled to complete a sprint.
Finally, exhausted, Naruto collapsed to the ground, gasping for air. He closed his eyes for a moment, savoring the coolness of the ground against his burning skin. But his reprieve was short-lived.
"Get up," Akane ordered sharply.
Naruto raised his head, frowning. "Wait... I just finished... Can't I have a little break?"
Akane arched a brow, a cold smile on her lips. "On the battlefield, there are no breaks. The enemy won't give you time to recover."
Before he could respond, she darted toward him like lightning. Naruto, caught off guard, rolled to the side just in time to avoid a kick aimed at his flank. But she didn't stop there.
She kept attacking, delivering precise, powerful blows targeting his obvious weaknesses. Naruto tried to fight back, but every move he made was anticipated, every counterattack dodged with unnerving ease.
"See what I mean?" she said between strikes. "You're predictable. You leave openings everywhere. And worse, you hesitate."
Naruto winced, narrowly dodging a punch aimed at his face. "I... I'm doing my best!" he shouted in frustration.
"Your best isn't enough," Akane shot back, striking him in the chest with the flat of her hand, sending him rolling to the ground.
Naruto groaned as he got up, winded. He clenched his fists, his teeth grinding. "So what? Am I supposed to give up?"
Akane paused for a moment, her piercing eyes meeting his. "No. You're supposed to learn. Raw strength isn't enough. If you truly want to get stronger, you need to understand your weaknesses and overcome them. Not ignore them."
Naruto lowered his gaze, his body trembling from exhaustion and frustration. Akane's words resonated within him, painful but true.
"Now, stand up," she said, stepping back slightly. "The first lesson is over. Get ready for the next."
Naruto remained motionless for a moment, his eyes fixed on the ground. Then, slowly, he rose, his legs wobbling under his weight. He took a deep breath, promising himself he wouldn't give up.
He glanced at Ayame, who still watched from the porch. She crossed her arms, her neutral expression masking her thoughts. But when their eyes met, she looked away, a faint smile playing on her lips.
"I'll get stronger," Naruto murmured to himself. "I'll show them I'm more than just a loudmouth kid."
The sun, now high in the sky, bathed the courtyard in its radiant light. And under its warmth, Naruto knew that his real training was only just beginning.
