NARUTO: In the Shadow of the Clans

Chapter 26: First Step Towards Strength 2

The Body's Burden of Morning Training, Naruto rose with difficulty, his body aching from the morning training, and made his way into the house, determined to face the next phase of the program. Entering the room, he found Akane seated at her desk, surrounded by a disarray of scattered documents. Her intense focus on the scrolls gave the impression that she was lost in a world of her own.

"I'm ready for the next part," Naruto declared firmly, though his voice was slightly hoarse from the exertion.

Akane lifted her eyes to him, quickly scanning him from head to toe. A brief flash of distaste crossed her face before her brows furrowed.

"Ready for the next part?" she repeated, raising an eyebrow. "You should be ready for a bath instead. You stink, Naruto."

Naruto blinked, taken aback. "What? But I—"

"No arguments," she cut him off, waving a hand toward the door. "Go clean yourself. I refuse to teach someone who smells worse than a rotting fish."

A little offended but too exhausted to argue further, Naruto grumbled as he headed to the bathroom. The hot water cascading over his skin drew a sigh of relief, washing away some of the fatigue from his strained muscles. He scrubbed thoroughly, determined not to give Akane any more reasons to complain.

Refreshed and clean, he returned to the room where she was waiting, arms crossed.

"Finally. Now we can talk seriously," she said, gesturing for him to sit on a chair in front of her.

Naruto complied, curiosity sparking as he sat. Akane leaned back slightly against her desk, crossing her arms.

"So, Naruto," she began, her tone turning serious, "what do you know about fuinjutsu?"

Naruto tilted his head, thinking for a moment. "Uh… I know it's some kind of technique that uses seals… like to trap things? But other than that, I don't know much."

Akane sighed, visibly disappointed but not surprised. "Figures. It's not something easily taught, and certainly not in Konoha, I'd imagine."

Naruto frowned. "Why? Is it that hard?"

"Not just that," she replied, crossing her legs. "Fuinjutsu is a complex discipline, but it's also incredibly dangerous. If misused, it can cause disasters. That's why it's reserved for an elite few with the talent and patience to master it."

She paused, her gaze softening slightly. "But you, Naruto... you have an advantage. You're an Uzumaki."

Naruto's eyes widened in shock. "Wait, what? What does that have to do with anything?"

"More than you think," Akane replied with a faint smile. She leaned forward, placing a hand on an old scroll, which she unrolled on the desk. "The Uzumaki clan was renowned for their mastery of fuinjutsu. It was their specialty. They could create seals powerful enough to imprison demons, protect entire villages, or even manipulate time and space to some extent."

Naruto gawked. "Seriously?!"

Akane nodded. "Absolutely. Unfortunately, their mastery also earned them many enemies. Their village, Uzushio, was destroyed out of fear of their power. But despite that, their legacy lives on... in you."

Naruto felt a strange warmth spread through him at her words. "Wait… does that mean my mom was…?"

Akane nodded. "Kushina Uzumaki, yes. She was a proud and talented member of the clan. Even though she didn't get the chance to pass on all her knowledge, her blood runs through your veins. You have the potential to become as great as she was… maybe even greater."

Naruto lowered his eyes, his thoughts whirling. He knew so little about his mother, but hearing this strengthened his resolve.

"So… fuinjutsu could really help me get stronger, right?" he asked, clenching his fists on his knees.

"Not just stronger," Akane said with an enigmatic smile. "Smarter. More strategic. Fuinjutsu isn't just about raw power. It's an art that requires thought and creativity. If you want to be a great ninja one day, you'll need to learn to use your head as much as your fists."

She straightened, pulling another scroll from the pile. "We'll start with the basics—the foundations. If you master these concepts, you'll one day create your own seals. But for now, focus on what I'm going to teach you."

Naruto nodded, ready to give it his all.

"Good," she said, unrolling the scroll to reveal a series of intricate symbols and diagrams. "Fuinjutsu is built on three pillars: structure, energy, and intent. Every seal you create must be designed with these three elements in mind. A single mistake, no matter how small, could render it useless—or worse, dangerous."

Naruto frowned, leaning in to get a better look at the diagrams.

"But before we dive into the details," Akane continued, "I want to see what you can figure out on your own. Tell me what you see here."

She pointed to a particular symbol on the scroll, and Naruto squinted, focusing intently.

"It's like… a circle with lines spreading out in all directions," he murmured. "It looks kind of like a… network? Or maybe a trap?"

Akane looked at him in surprise, a smile forming on her lips. "Not bad, Naruto. You have good instincts. That's indeed a seal used for imprisonment. It's one of the simplest, but it operates on the same principles as more complex ones."

Naruto felt a swell of pride rise within him.

"So, if I want to master this, I need to… learn these symbols?" he asked.

"Not just learn them," Akane replied, rolling the scroll back up. "You must understand their meaning. Every line, every curve has a precise role. And for that, you'll need patience and practice."

Naruto nodded, feeling a new determination ignite within him. No matter how long it took, he was ready to learn.
