Chapter 119: Chapter 119: Finally Taking Action

"Hahaha…" Inuzuka Tsume laughed heartily, her bold voice echoing. After a moment, she glanced at her daughter. "Hana, shouldn't you be in the ninja academy right now?"

Hearing this, Inuzuka Hana huffed dismissively. "I don't like the boring lessons at the academy. Even Haimaru doesn't enjoy them."

"Woof! Woof!"

From behind Hana came a deep growl as a massive gray wolfdog dashed into the room.

Upon seeing the fluffy dog, Mirai couldn't help but step forward, eager to pet it.

"Be careful!" Hana warned loudly. "Haimaru is—wait, what?"

Her words were abruptly cut off.

The usually aggressive Haimaru, who never tolerated strangers, let out a soft whine, lowered his head submissively, and wagged his thick tail energetically. Moments later, he flopped onto the ground, exposing his snow-white belly to Mirai.

Hana was dumbfounded as she stared at her dog's uncharacteristic behavior.

What's going on?

Haimaru hates being touched by anyone other than me! Even I can only pet his back!

Mirai turned back with a smile. "Hana, what were you saying?"

"N-nothing…"

Standing up, Mirai looked at Tsume and spoke confidently. "If Hana doesn't like the academy, let's have her graduate early."

"There's an upcoming reform in the Police Force. We're planning to recruit ninjas from the village."

"I think Hana and Haimaru would be a good fit."

Hearing this, Tsume's eyes widened in surprise. "Reforms? Recruiting from the village?"

"Exactly."

Tsume was taken aback. The Police Force, long under the exclusive control of the Uchiha clan, wielded immense power, with no interference from outsiders. That Mirai would voluntarily cede such control was unheard of.

Not understanding the deeper strategies behind the Police Force's politics, Tsume felt a newfound respect for Mirai's decision.

"Mom! I want to join the Police Force!" Hana exclaimed excitedly.

Being part of the Police Force was prestigious. Her classmates would be so envious if she became a member.

After some thought, Tsume nodded solemnly. "Alright, it's decided."

"Mirai, I'm entrusting the future of the Inuzuka clan to you. Don't let me down."

Mirai chuckled lightly. "Don't worry. My strength is more than enough to protect everyone under my care."

By the time Mirai left the Inuzuka clan compound, night had fallen.

At home, Uchiha Mikoto was busy preparing dinner, wearing an apron and mopping the floor.

When Mirai stepped through the door, Mikoto's cheeks flushed slightly. "You're back, Captain Mirai?"

Mirai pinched her cheek playfully. "Mikoto, no need to be so formal. Just call me like you did last night."

Mikoto's face turned crimson, almost glowing. For reasons she couldn't explain, after spending these past days with Mirai, defying him felt impossible.

Taking a deep breath, she bowed her head. "Y-yes… ."

"Hahaha…" Mirai laughed heartily, his sense of triumph swelling. He led Mikoto to the dining table.

To her, the man who saved her from her tragic fate was more than just a protector. He was her savior—her master.

After dinner, Mikoto went to prepare the bath while Mirai headed to the courtyard for his nightly training.

Suddenly, Mirai's senses sharpened. A Flying Thunder God mark had been activated.

"So, they finally couldn't resist taking action…" Mirai muttered before vanishing in an instant.

Under the moonlight, a group of Mist ninjas, all wearing Kirigakure forehead protectors, darted through the dense forest, chasing after two figures ahead.

The fleeing pair, wearing Konoha headbands, consisted of a young woman with face paint and a masked boy—Nohara Rin and Hatake Kakashi.

On a mission outside the village, Rin had been kidnapped by Mist ninjas. After a perilous chase to the coast, Kakashi managed to rescue her but fell into a trap laid by their pursuers.

Soon, an open clearing by the ocean appeared, forcing Kakashi and Rin to stop.

"This game of cat and mouse ends here, brats," sneered one of the Mist ninjas as the group closed in, malice gleaming in their eyes.

"Run, Kakashi! Don't worry about me!" Rin shouted.

"No, Rin. Take a breather. I promised Obito I'd protect you," Kakashi said firmly, drawing his blade.

In the blink of an eye, Kakashi was locked in a fierce battle with the Mist ninjas. But despite his skills, the overwhelming numbers left him struggling.

If not for their intent to capture him alive, he'd likely have already fallen.

As the fight raged on, Rin quietly pulled out a gold kunai infused with chakra. Before she could act, however, a pale humanoid creature with a Sharingan in its eye socket appeared before her.

With one glance, Rin's eyes went blank.

"Make Kakashi kill you… Make him kill you…"

The creature disappeared, and Rin began to mutter mindlessly as she staggered toward Kakashi.

In the heat of battle, Kakashi's chakra reserves dwindled. Gritting his teeth, he formed a hand sign.

"Chidori!"

Sparks crackled as Kakashi charged forward, piercing a Mist ninja with his lightning blade. But the next moment, an unexpected figure dashed in front of him.

Thud!

Chidori struck Rin squarely.

Kakashi froze, wide-eyed, his mind blank with shock.

In her dying moments, Rin broke free from the genjutsu. With trembling hands, she pressed the gold kunai into Kakashi's grip.

"Kakashi… pour your chakra into it…"

Before she could finish, her body went limp and fell lifeless to the ground.

With no time to hesitate, Kakashi infused his remaining chakra into the kunai, having learned of its properties from Rin before.

To his dismay, the kunai drained his chakra entirely, leaving him unconscious as he collapsed.

The moment Kakashi hit the ground, Mirai materialized from thin air.

"Amaterasu!"
