Chapter 121: Chapter 121: If It’s You, I Can Accept It!

Returning to the village, Mirai and Kakashi parted ways.

Mirai carried Rin back to his residence, where Mikoto had already prepared hot water for bathing. As she approached to greet him, her eyes fell on the unconscious Rin in Mirai's arms.

"Rin encountered some danger," Mirai explained, his tone calm but with a trace of weariness. "The shock was too much for her, and she fainted."

Mikoto gave a gentle smile, her demeanor warm and understanding.

"You don't need to explain yourself to me."

"Do you need me to step out for a while?" she offered, her perceptiveness on full display.

Mirai nodded appreciatively. Compared to the naivety of young girls, a mature and intelligent woman like Mikoto always seemed to intuitively understand the desires buried in a man's heart.

But instead of letting her leave, Mirai handed Rin to Mikoto.

"Mikoto, please help Rin clean up first."

"Understood," she replied softly.

The next morning, Mirai opened his eyes to find breakfast already set on the table. Despite his insistence, Mikoto had quietly left after tending to Rin the night before, leaving Mirai with little choice but to sigh in resignation.

As Mirai brooded, soft murmurs reached his ears. Turning toward the sound, he saw Rin slowly waking up.

Her eyes flicked around the unfamiliar room before settling on Mirai in his casual sleepwear. Finally, her gaze drifted downward to her own clothing—or lack thereof.

"Ah!" she exclaimed, clutching the loose neckline of her robe with both hands. The realization that she was wearing nothing underneath caused her cheeks to flush a deep crimson.

"Uh… Rin, about last night—you fainted, and I had Mikoto—" Mirai began, only to be cut off.

"It's fine, Mirai." Rin's voice was soft but firm, her gaze sincere. "If it's you, I can accept it."

"Uh…" Mirai was momentarily at a loss for words, scratching the back of his head in awkward frustration. Well, this is just great. Now it looks like mud in the pants—no way to explain it without seeming guilty.

The truth was, it had been Mikoto who bathed and dressed Rin. Mirai had only glanced her way—maybe more than once, he admitted to himself—but he certainly hadn't crossed any lines.

Sensing Rin's subtle but hopeful gaze, Mirai decided against further explanation. He pulled her into a light embrace. "Let's eat first, Rin."

"Mm." Rin nodded, her expression softening as she settled into the moment.

After breakfast, Rin excused herself, citing the need to report last night's attack to the village authorities.

Arriving at the Konoha Police Force headquarters, Mirai was greeted by the sight of Inuzuka Hana waiting impatiently near the entrance.

"Mirai-sama, you're so late!" she pouted, crossing her arms. "I've been here since early morning, and it's been two hours!"

Mirai waved her complaints aside nonchalantly. "That's a captain's privilege. Let's go."

As they entered the headquarters, Hana's eyes widened in amazement.

"So grand!" she exclaimed, gawking at the polished halls. "It's as impressive as the Hokage's office! The Uchiha really know how to live."

The bustling reception area was filled with ninja queuing to apply for positions. Since news of the police force's recruitment drive had spread, it had drawn considerable interest. For many, joining the police force offered not only stable pay and benefits but also a level of protection akin to a "get-out-of-jail-free card."

Why risk life-threatening missions when you could deal with minor disputes among villagers instead?

As Mirai entered, every officer in sight immediately straightened and saluted.

"Mirai-sama!"

He nodded in acknowledgment and continued toward his office, where Uchiha Tekkō awaited him with excitement.

"Tekkō, look at the turnout! I didn't expect so many applicants!"

Mirai's lips curved into a faint smirk. "People often disdain the privileges of the elite, yet when offered the chance to join those ranks, they flock to it. It's human nature."

"Mirai-sama, your insights are always so profound," Tekkō said with a touch of admiration.

"Don't overdo it, Tekkō," Mirai said, raising a brow.

Tekkō scratched his head sheepishly, unbothered by being called out. He gestured toward Hana.

"This little one is Inuzuka Hana. She's part of us now."

"Huh? Isn't she a bit young?" Tekkō remarked, eyeing Hana skeptically.

Hana puffed out her chest. "Don't underestimate me! I'm a genius at tracking and reconnaissance!"

"Isn't it more that your dog's the genius?" Tekkō teased.

"Whatever," Hana huffed. Turning back to Mirai, she gave a confident wave. "Just you wait. One day, I'll show you what I'm capable of!"

"Work hard, then," Mirai said with a quiet chuckle as she walked away.

Once Hana left, Uchiha entered the room. "Taichō, Yuhi Shinku has requested an audience."

"Send him in," Mirai said, standing to greet his old teacher.

"Mirai!" Shinku beamed as he walked in. "I hope I'm not intruding."

"Not at all, sensei. It's been too long."

Shinku studied him with a nostalgic smile.

"In just three years, you've accomplished so much. I couldn't be prouder."

"Much of the credit goes to your guidance, sensei," Mirai replied with genuine warmth.

Their exchange left others gaping in surprise. It was rare to see Mirai so openly respectful.

After some pleasantries, Shinku got to the point.

"Mirai, I need your help with a matter involving the Kurama clan…"
