Chapter 353: Chapter 353: The Daimyo's Misfortune

The general of the Daimyo's Prefecture was the most authoritative and prestigious figure in the entire region, second only to the Daimyo himself. In fact, he was a direct representative of the Fire Nation's nobility—an iconic figure of their power and influence.

And he was the Daimyo's younger brother.

Though they were only half-brothers, their relationship complicated matters. The assassination of a noble from the Daimyo's inner circle—especially someone as powerful as the general—was no trivial matter.

In smaller nations, the assassination of nobles was not uncommon and often overlooked unless it directly targeted the Daimyo. However, in one of the Five Great Nations, such an act was akin to stirring up a hornet's nest.

If someone could infiltrate and assassinate the general, it meant they could infiltrate the palace and kill the Daimyo as well.

The realization sent the Daimyo into a panic.

"Damn it! Who are these people? Who dared to come to the Daimyo's mansion and assassinate one of its nobles?" he shouted, pacing nervously. "Investigate immediately! Arrest them all and execute them!"

The assassination of the general had shaken the Daimyo to his core. The perpetrators were clearly lawless and fearless. What else wouldn't they dare to do? His thoughts spiraled toward the worst-case scenario—his own assassination.

"Summon all the Konoha ninjas immediately! Bring them to the palace to protect me!" he bellowed.

Despite his earlier disdain for the Konoha ninjas, whom he had banished to the outskirts of the mansion, the Daimyo now desperately needed their protection.

Outside the Daimyo's Mansion

The assassins regrouped with Shimura Danzo, presenting their gruesome trophies—the severed heads of their targets.

"My lord, the mission was successfully completed," one of them reported.

Danzo inspected the heads and, with a calm and commanding tone, issued his next orders.

"Tomorrow night, you will assassinate the noble in charge of the Daimyo's finances. Afterward, attack the palace itself. Create as much chaos as possible. Set it on fire if necessary. Once the palace is in disarray, retreat."

Danzo had no intention of assassinating the Daimyo himself, despite his disdain for the aristocracy. Such an act would force the Hokage to publicly denounce him, potentially leading to his exile—or worse, execution.

Instead, his goal was clear: instill a profound sense of crisis in the Daimyo and make him more dependent on Konoha for protection.

Meanwhile, in the Rain Country

Shinki, watching through his puppets, chuckled at Danzo's audacity.

"To create a sense of crisis, he killed the Daimyo's general. Is that enough for you, Daimyo?"

He recalled Tsunade mentioning that most of the influential nobles in the Daimyo's circle were directly related to the Daimyo by blood. As the most powerful figure in the Fire Nation, the Daimyo led a life of indulgence, leaving behind a vast number of offspring and relatives.

"I wonder if this unlucky general is the only target, or just the first," Shinki mused.

While the Hokage aimed to pressure the Daimyo without crossing any lines, Danzo's ruthlessness disregarded such subtleties. His ultimate goal was to assassinate key nobles, escalate the sense of danger, and ensure that Konoha became indispensable to the Daimyo.

Shinki grinned. "It's a win-win for Danzo—until I throw out the evidence."

He knew the Hokage wouldn't dare antagonize the Daimyo to the point of seeking protection from other villages. Such a move would give rival nations a pretext to send ninja armies into the Fire Nation under the guise of "protection."

"Shimura Danzo, I've kept the evidence for you. Don't disappoint me."

Shinki had his puppets record everything, using Orochimaru's latest camera invention. When the time came, he planned to present the evidence, forcing the Hokage into a dilemma: protect Danzo or preserve Konoha's relationship with the Daimyo.

Back in the Rain Country

After a few days of continuous rain, Kushina, Uchiha Mikoto, and Hyuga Mehu grew restless. At first, they found the endless downpour soothing—watching the rain from their beds, wrapped in quilts, and listening to the rhythmic patter of raindrops.

But the novelty soon wore off.

"No matter how much you like rain, too much of it is tiresome," Shinki thought, shaking his head. He likened it to friends from warmer regions marveling at snow, only to grow weary after months of harsh winter conditions.

Leaving the Rain Country

The group finally departed the rain-soaked lands, heading toward the Grass Country. The transition was a welcome relief. Compared to the Rain Country's dreary climate, the Grass Country's pleasant weather and lush environment felt refreshing, reminiscent of the Fire Nation itself.
