Chapter 27: Chapter 27: The Experiment of Ice Release and Bloodline Limit
In the wilderness of the Land of Waves, a masked figure resembling a Kirigakure Anbu member slowly made their way through the forest. Behind them, a tall, muscular man with bandages wrapped around his mouth and neck was slung over their shoulder like a lifeless corpse.
"Just a little further. The safe house is ahead," Haku thought, casting a glance at the unconscious figure of Zabuza on their shoulder.
To save Zabuza from Kakashi's clutches, Haku had faked his death by using senbon needles to strike specific acupuncture points, inducing a state of suspended animation. Disguised as a Kirigakure Anbu operative, Haku had "retrieved" Zabuza's body from the scene and was now en route to a safe location where he could revive him.
"I've finally caught up to you. I didn't know where you were hiding before, so I had to wait until now," a strange voice suddenly called out from behind.
Haku froze, feeling a chill run down their spine. Turning around, they saw a masked figure wearing a khaki-colored dog mask. The stranger stood tall, looking down at Haku with an air of confidence. Without hesitation, the masked figure reached out to touch Zabuza.
"Don't touch him!" Haku snapped, quickly recovering from their shock. A flurry of senbon needles shot toward the masked figure.
But with a casual wave of their hand, the masked figure caught every needle in mid-air. Examining the senbon with apparent disinterest, they said, "That's all? You won't escape today."
Haku immediately leapt out of range, carrying Zabuza, while frantically trying to recall any information about this new foe. Their attire didn't match Kirigakure's Anbu or pursuit squads, leaving Haku puzzled about their origins.
"Protecting Zabuza-sama is my priority," Haku thought, devising a plan. They quickly formed hand seals.
"Water Release: Hidden Mist Jutsu!"
Thick fog enveloped the forest, hiding Haku and Zabuza within its shroud. However, the masked figure stood motionless, showing no sign of concern. With a wave of their hand, the mist dissipated almost instantly, revealing Haku's position.
"Water Release: Thousand Flying Water Needles of Death!" Haku shouted, forming countless sharp water needles that hovered around the masked figure.
Even surrounded by the deadly projectiles, the figure stood unfazed, hands casually in their pockets. Haku, unnerved by the figure's calmness, commanded the needles to shoot forward.
With another nonchalant motion, the masked figure seemed to erase the needles from existence, as if wiping away ink on paper.
"What kind of jutsu is that?" Haku thought, alarmed. Their plan to force the masked figure into evasion had failed.
With no other choice, Haku prepared their ultimate technique. "Ice Release: Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals!"
The temperature around the masked figure plummeted as crystalline mirrors of ice emerged from the ground and hovered in mid-air. Forming a dome, the mirrors trapped the masked figure within. Haku merged into the mirrors, their reflection appearing in all of them, creating a disorienting effect.
This was Haku's greatest technique, utilizing their Ice Release bloodline limit to attack with unparalleled speed and precision. Yet, despite the setup, an ominous sense of dread lingered in Haku's heart.
As Haku prepared to strike, the masked figure reached out and touched one of the mirrors. To Haku's horror, the mirror vanished, erased entirely along with the chakra maintaining it.
"How is that possible?!" Haku thought, beads of sweat forming despite the cold. The figure continued to calmly erase mirror after mirror, unbothered by Haku's presence.
"Am I next?" Haku wondered, terrified.
Then, with a puff of smoke, the masked figure vanished.
"A shadow clone? No, it can't be!" Haku couldn't accept that they had been outmaneuvered by a mere clone. Even as Zabuza stirred back to consciousness, Haku remained on edge, scanning the area for any lingering danger.
Far away in Konoha, Kirito smiled as he prepared to meet his team for training.
[Messing with them was fun.]
The masked figure Haku had encountered was none other than Kirito's shadow clone, sent specifically to obtain Haku's Ice Release bloodline limit for experimentation. Having always been curious about how bloodline limits worked, Kirito saw Haku's abilities as an ideal opportunity.
To avoid the restrictions on leaving the village, Kirito had deployed the shadow clone during a previous mission, carefully tracking Haku and Zabuza's movements. Using this method, he finally acquired Ice Release chakra parameters and techniques, all while testing the efficacy of his Natural Otsutsuki BloodLine to override or replicate bloodline limits.
In the forest, Kirito focused his chakra. Slowly, Ice Release chakra condensed in his hand, forming a crystalline shard of ice.
"Interesting," he muttered. Through the data gathered by his shadow clone, Kirito now understood how bloodline limits were formed: by fusing two elemental chakra natures. For Ice Release, it was a combination of water and wind. The challenge lay in achieving the correct balance, as well as envisioning the desired outcome during fusion.
By applying this knowledge, Kirito could replicate Ice Release chakra without being genetically predisposed to it.
[The possibilities are endless. I can create my own bloodline limit someday.]
He focused once more, merging his water and wind chakra to form several ice mirrors around him. "Ice Release: Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals!"
The mirrors surrounded him, reflecting his image in each one. Testing the technique further, he phased into one of the mirrors, his body resonating with the chakra within.
[If I can fuse into ice, why not go further? Elemental transformation, like Suigetsu's Hydrification Technique…]
With newfound determination, Kirito began theorizing how to evolve the technique into a fully elemental transformation, potentially granting immunity to physical attacks.
Later that day, Kirito experimented with a modified version of the Hidden Mist Jutsu. By replacing the water-based chakra with Ice Release chakra, he created a chilling fog that crystallized everything it touched.
The forest transformed into a frozen wonderland, with trees, plants, and animals encased in shimmering ice. The serene beauty of the scene was offset by the stark realization of its destructive power.
[I need to control this better.]
Kirito spent the rest of the day thawing the affected area and using medical ninjutsu to heal the animals caught in the freeze.
By sundown, he had resolved to refine his mastery over the technique. Without precise control, such a powerful jutsu could do more harm than good.
[This is only the beginning. The future is limitless.]
