Chapter 71: Chapter 71: The Two Who Fell From the Sky
After defeating Wind, Flowers, and Raging Waves and securing the treasure of the Land of Snow, Koyuki was crowned queen with the unwavering support of Sandayū.
Team three attended her enthronement ceremony and, the next day, began their journey back to Konoha.
"This was such a memorable mission," Rock Lee said enthusiastically.
"Agreed," TenTen replied, nodding.
"To commemorate Princess Koyuki becoming queen, let's run all the way back to Konoha!" Lee declared.
"How is that even related?!" TenTen groaned.
"Great idea, Lee! Such enthusiasm! I can't wait to get back to Konoha and tell Kakashi that I've won this match!" Guy exclaimed, already sprinting ahead.
As their figures disappeared into the distance, Kirito said to TenTen, "Let's follow them."
"Ugh, why me..." TenTen sighed but trudged after them.
Several grueling days later, the group reached Konoha's gates. TenTen, panting and leaning on her knees, gasped, "This is insane…"
"Are you okay?" Kirito asked, offering her a water bottle.
Grabbing it, TenTen downed a large gulp before glaring at him. "You're not even tired, are you?"
"I'm fine," Kirito replied casually, showing no signs of fatigue.
"You're all monsters…" TenTen muttered, draining the rest of the bottle in exasperation.
Upon learning from the gate guards that Kakashi was back in the village, Guy disbanded the team for a well-deserved break. Guy ran off to find Kakashi, Lee resumed training at the practice grounds, and Kirito escorted TenTen home before heading to report to Tsunade about his studies.
Guy quickly found Kakashi strolling along, reading a book. "Kakashi! This match is my victory!" Guy announced triumphantly.
"Huh?" Kakashi looked up, confused.
"Do you remember the Land of Snow?" Guy asked, grinning.
"The Land of Snow… wait, don't tell me!" Kakashi's eyes widened.
"That's right! Our mission was to protect Princess Koyuki, defeat Nadare Rōga, Fubuki Kakuyoku, and Mizore Fuyukuma, and witness her becoming queen!" Guy proudly showed Kakashi a photograph of Team three with Koyuki, who smiled radiantly at the camera.
"She even signed it as 'Kazahana Koyuki.' It's been so long… She looks so grown up," Kakashi said, reminiscing.
"This one's for you," Guy said, handing Kakashi an envelope with a black expression.
Inside, Kakashi found another photo: a younger Koyuki in elegant attire, standing in a lush, springtime valley. Her bright smile in the warm, blooming scene brought a rare, soft smile to Kakashi's face. "Spring… it's wonderful," he murmured.
Meanwhile, Kirito met Tsunade at the Hokage office. "I'm back. Here's what I've learned," he said.
Tsunade didn't ask about the mission—she had full confidence in Kirito's abilities. Instead, she focused on his progress with cell activation studies.
"I've read most of the material and started forming ideas," Kirito replied. His medical ninjutsu and chakra control had reached new heights, and he was eager to test his theories through experimentation.
"Good," Tsunade said. "Come to Konoha Hospital tomorrow, and we'll see how well you understand activation. Based on that, I'll decide what to teach you next."
Kirito nodded. Before leaving, Tsunade shared some news. "You've got a new junior. Sakura from Kakashi's team has become my apprentice."
"Did Naruto and the others return?"
"They did," Tsunade confirmed. "They tracked down an Orochimaru base but failed to achieve their objective. Sakura decided to train under me to keep up with Naruto and Sasuke. She has potential, so I took her in."
Kirito silently noted how closely events mirrored the original story. Tsunade's apprentice selections were never as rigorous as Jiraiya's or Orochimaru's. She valued nurturing medical talent, but few gained her full teachings. Among her students, only Sakura inherited her most advanced techniques.
The next morning, Kirito was on his way to Konoha Hospital when he sensed a fleeting but unusual chakra fluctuation. Familiar with the village's chakra signatures, the anomaly immediately caught his attention.
Activating his Byakugan, Kirito scanned the area and spotted something shocking: a blond-haired boy and a black-haired man falling from the sky into a forest on the village outskirts. They hit the ground hard.
Kirito froze. The two figures were unmistakable: Boruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha from the future.
[Am I seeing things? How did they get here?] Kirito thought, bewildered. He recognized them from what little he knew of Boruto.
Sasuke, sensing he was being observed, snapped his head toward Kirito's direction. Boruto followed suit, their postures tense.
[They noticed me.] Kirito deactivated his Byakugan but kept observing from a distance.
As Kirito debated how to approach the situation, Tsunade emerged from the hospital and noticed him. "Kirito, you're here just in time," she said. "I heard there are two strangers in the village from the barrier corps. Let's check it out together."
