Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Spring in the Land of Snow
After arriving in the Land of Snow, the crew made their way to the scheduled shooting location, halfway up a snow-covered mountain.
As Sandayū had described, the Land of Snow lived up to its name, blanketed in snow year-round. The scenery was breathtaking—on one side, a majestic silver mountain; on the other, a frosty forest nestled at the foot of the slope.
"Hurry up, everyone! It'll be troublesome if it gets dark," the director's assistant urged. Though the landscape was stunning, the threat of a snowstorm was ever-present.
Koyuki, no longer shying away from the crew, silently joined the others around a small stove to keep warm, grateful for their unwavering support.
Nearby, Rock Lee was training enthusiastically with Guy in the snow. To challenge himself, Lee had removed his coat, clad only in his signature tights.
"This is madness!" exclaimed TenTen, shivering at the thought. "Exercising in tights in this freezing cold?"
"With the fire of youth burning in your soul, the cold is nothing!" declared Guy with conviction. "Right, Lee?"
"Yes, Sensei!" Lee responded, matching Guy's fervor.
The two pushed themselves even harder, ignoring TenTen's incredulous gaze. Turning away, she spotted Kirito feeding Little Leopard a snowball and asked, "Is that even edible?"
"It wants to try natural ice," Kirito replied, stuffing the snowball into Little Leopard's mouth. The creature chewed a few times before spitting out water onto Kirito's hand. He wiped it off calmly. "Doesn't like it," he remarked, as TenTen sighed in exasperation.
As the crew prepared to start filming, the snow was suddenly disturbed by the appearance of train tracks, stretching toward them.
"What's going on here?" the director's assistant asked in confusion.
Sandayū hurried forward, explaining, "These are the chakra-infused rails of the Land of Snow. They melt the surrounding snow."
Pressing his ear to the rail, he froze. "A train is coming—likely Kazahana Dotou!"
Moments later, a dark, armored train barreled toward them.
"Wood Style: Hands of the Buddha Technique!"
Massive wooden hands burst from the snow, grabbing at the train. Though several were broken by the train's speed, the remaining hands managed to halt its advance with a screeching, ear-piercing grind.
"Director, get everyone to safety!" shouted Guy, as the crew hurried to hide.
Standing in front, Guy and Rock Lee faced the threat head-on, with Kirito and TenTen providing support. Their eyes locked on the imposing figure atop the halted train.
"You must be the Konoha ninja protecting Princess Kazahana Koyuki," the square-faced Dotou barked through a microphone. "Leave now, or face the wrath of the Land of Snow!"
"That must be Dotou. If we defeat him, Princess Koyuki will be free!" Rock Lee adjusted the bandages on his hands, prepared for battle.
Dotou signaled, and two black-armored warriors leapt from the train toward the group.
"Lee, let's see who takes out their opponent first. The loser carries the luggage!" Guy challenged, rushing forward.
"Yes, Sensei!" Lee shouted, unleashing his Konoha Whirlwind on his opponent.
The battle escalated quickly. Dotou's warriors wielded Ice Style techniques to summon avalanches and create icy prisons, but the flames of youth burned brighter.
"Leaf Great Whirlwind!" Guy's fiery kick shattered an opponent's chakra armor, sending him flying.
Rock Lee countered his opponent's attack with a Front Lotus, wrapping him in bandages and planting him headfirst into the snow. The two celebrated their victory exuberantly, much to TenTen's irritation.
Meanwhile, Kirito faced Dotou directly. Using his Wood Style, Kirito restrained the train and defeated Dotou's forces with ease. As Dotou attempted to retreat using an airship, Kirito unleashed a lava-infused strike that obliterated the craft in mid-air.
"Where is the treasure of the Land of Snow?" Kirito demanded, freezing Dotou into an ice sculpture before he could resist.
Turning to Princess Koyuki, he said, "Dotou is defeated. He mentioned a treasure left for you by your father."
"Father…" Koyuki whispered, her memories of him flooding back.
Kirito led the group to a mountaintop where the treasure was said to be hidden. There, Koyuki placed a hexagonal crystal into an altar. The snow melted away, revealing a geothermal device her father had created.
As the snow receded, projectors hidden within icicles illuminated the landscape, transforming the barren basin into a lush meadow. Flowers bloomed, butterflies danced, and spring finally came to the Land of Snow.
Koyuki's father appeared as a hologram, reminding her of the dreams she once held as a child—to become a gentle and righteous princess.
Moved to tears, Koyuki vowed to honor her father's memory and her own dreams, embracing both her royal duty and her passion for acting.
In the final scene, Kirito used Wood Style: Deep Forest Emergence to extend spring across the Land of Snow. Verdant greenery spread from the mountaintop to the horizon, bringing life back to the frozen land.
As the crew captured the breathtaking moment on film, the Land of Snow's eternal winter gave way to hope, warmth, and renewal.
